If tracks like 'Erotic City', 'Come' etc. were originally released with more....uh...cleaner religious lyrics, but the same music, do you think your views would be different about them? What if the lyrics of the whole 'TRC' album were originally released dirty like the lyrics on 'Dirty Mind' or 'Come', but had the same music, would you like the album more, or less? If Prince was cussing all over '20TEN' [when it was first released], would it be a better album or worse?

Cussing wouldn't make 20Ten better or worse imo.

But Erotic City would sound ridiculcous if he used JW lyrics.

I still believe when Prince comes with the right music, it doesn't matter what he's saying lyrically. When the production is shoddy, the preachy lyrics make things even worse. It's just like "conscious" rappers, Put them on crazy dope beats, you'll listen anyway.....

I've never liked Prince for his lyrical abilities. As long as the music is good, it's usually all that matters, unless the lyrics are really awful, then I can't listen. And imo, dirty words are as dumb as religious babble, so no, I don't want him to write dirty lyrics again either.

Well, it was always the whole package for me - the music and lyrics went together hand in hand. It was energetic, breathtaking new music that had sexually charged lyrics with attitude. It was everything you could want.

These days, the music makes some of his lyrics more palatable. I'm not religious, but I don't get irked by his religious leanings - I'd just rather he hadn't lost the maverick attitude. But, hey, we all change right? And, as you get older, you always find yourself becoming a little more conservative in your views, even if its only subtle.

Prince should take albums containing explicit lyrics off the market, then he should write new lyrics, re-sing the songs and and finally realease "clean lyrics" versions.

I know it would be a fairly extensive process, but a true believer must comply with will of God.

I agree completely. When it comes to music, if the overall sound of it doesn't catch me w/in a certain amount of time, it's over. I've never had a moment with Prince where it's was about the lyrics. In fact, it's the music that first gets my attention with any artist. I'm very non-discriminating when it comes to music, if it sounds good to me, I don't care what genre it's from. And if the lyrics are on-point as well, then that's a bonus!

for the most part i couldnt care less what people sing about. just as long as the music and voices are good.

id rather a song with good music and bad lyrics than vice versa.

Like someone already mentioned, it's a combination of the words and music--- how certain words and syllables fit into the melodies on top of the arrangements..etc.

Honestly, half the time, I don't know what my favorite artists are singing or singing about, but I like the way it all sounds and fits together and forms a complete song... If that makes sense.

However, there is some music that begs for some sensual, provocative lyrics... A bedroom sounding slow jam with religious lyrics would make me laugh and shut it off.
