now i think i read this one of the interviews .. and i would almost believe him if he would said this the whole tyme.. but he doesnt like people trying to make it big off his music .. they need to pay thier dues..

i can understand that.. why should a new band make it off of someone elses hit? thats bs.. now they release a full album with a cover on it and not release the cover on radio .fine to me.,. thats the problem he was saying .. still dont believe him because he doesnt want anyone doing his music ...

now people saying he is doing covers... how many cds haas he had with covers on them?? and how far in his career was that cd? eman.. which number cd was that.. cd number 25 i duno im not counting.. but he paid his dues... if he getting mad at bands that have multi cds then thats his problem.. and sad because they like the music they are covering.. might be a bad cover but its a thank u for being there doing what u do.. u have inspired us in one way or another..

because if i liked a band that did the cover and i liked the song i might be interested in finding the orginal artist out..

He started recording covers for his Emancipation album.

Prince has done covers for decades. Get over it.

Sure, at aftershows. Playing covers at "regular" shows is a relatively new phenomenon (Musicology tour maybe?). When he played covers at aftershows it was special primarily because it was rare. He also didn't play the same five-ten covers over and over as he tends to do today. I think most Prince fans do not want to hear him play covers but if he must a little more variety would be very much appreciated.

What I find most disappointing is the lack of faith that Prince is showing in his new material ("new" meaning anything post WB). He has written some great songs over the last 10-15 years and I think many of them would benefit from being performed live.

It was rare in the 1980s shows and became a staple in the 1995 and 1998 shows. ( I Believe In You, The Jam, Love Rollercoaster, Proud Mary, Everyday People, Thank U Fahlettin me B Mice elf ...etc.).

I think the trend really started around 1994/95.

I hate him filling up his main shows with covers. it's ridiculous on top of the fact that he hates when people cover his songs. i don't understand. when he covered Just My Imagination, i loved it. Mother Popcorn, loved it. Covering his own artists such as the time and sheila E is acceptable because he wrote most if not all songs. now it's just plain stupid. if we wanted to hear sly songs, we'd go to a sly concert.

Dear Prince, you have 2,000+ GREAT songs. PLAY THOSE!!!

I don't believe Prince has ever said people shouldn't be able to cover other songs. He's said that they shouldn't be able to release a cover on a single or album without getting permission from the songwriter.

Prince has released a few covers. Unless you know he didn't ask the original artist first, you can't say he was hypocritical.

I'm sure the musicians who wanted to cover his material ASKED. Maybe not the hip-hop producers who SAMPLED him though (ask the producers of folks like 2Pac).

the main gripe is not that he does covers per se, more the unimaginative choices and the same funk lite treatment he gives them. his cover of come together is an insult. and don't even get me started about whole lotta love on the ona tour!

Not as many covers as Prince does

Considering you've got younger artists doing entire cover albums early in their careers. Prince has barely officially recorded enough covers for a decent EP release. Also it took him about 15 years to start doing them. Y'all really need to relax a bit.

As others have pointed out the gripe is that Prince's catalog is vast, why perform the same boring covers when there are tons of his own songs he could perform? Playing a cover tune every once in a while is fun and enjoyable but I think there's a problem when 1/4 of his setlist consists of covers. That's space and time that could be better used performing obscure songs from his back catalog or, gasp, new songs.

prince preforms covers because his band can't perform the majority of his music live that would be acceptabe to him or his fans.

Sorry. To show Prince that you don't like the covers at the next concert when he plays one get up and start booing as loud as you can. He'll get the message I'm sure and stop playing them.

That may be so, but i'd be moaning too if I had spent a lot of money on tickets for a 2hr+ show where he played under ten on his own songs.
