i dont do things for gain. maybe thats the way u think, but thats not me. my point was, the editor wasnt there, so he doesnt know what prince said. only dorian does.

what do u and most other people here have to gain by creating hatefest international? based on what? 2 conflicting articles?

how would you know what prince's intentions were by having 2 interviewers present at the same time? what makes u think he had any 'intentions' at all except to answer some questions?

seriously, why do you guys even come here if you can no longer stand his music or anything about him?

do you enjoy all the negativity and fighting? all the arguing? being constantly disappointed by his every move?

some of us still have respect for him. if you dont, then bounce.

Hold up, so YOU question everyone's motive with coming to this website to discuss Prince yet we can't discuss anything in a manner that YOU do not deem acceptable? Wonderful. Typical religious babblecrap and hypocritical as hell. What makes your shit not stink? What makes it okay for you to speak your mind but everyone else who may disagree with you needs to get their head checked? Oh, right, you consult a fucking spirit and it's all made better. Just stop.

You do it for gain just as much as anyone else posting here does it for gain. It makes YOU feel better knowing Prince (or, rather, believing Prince) to be a standup guy when he has done little to nothing to show that. If my bent is towards Prince being an asshole and your bent is towards Prince being a saint, then the truth must lie somewhere in the middle.

And nowhere here do you see me telling you to "bounce" with your retarded opinion that is completely based in unreality. That's the difference between people like you and people like me. I don't care what someone's opinion is - they are welcome to it. And should they present said opinion to be consumed by the masses, as you do by merely posting here for millions of people to see, they are perfectly open for examination. Why? Because not everything you hear is true. Naturally, that phrase only works for YOU when its compatible with YOUR beliefs.

What if everything PRINCE said was not true? Figure it out. Then let's talk.

Notice, I'll never tell you to bounce.

Prince: "I study. I learn. I like to talk to people. In all the countries I go to, I meet the people. For example I'm going back to/returning to Morocco. I really like the Muslim culture. I don't understand what people have against veiled women/women in bhurkhas. How can you stop people dressing how/the way they want to?"The

vs.

The Guardian:

In an exclusive interview with the Guardian's Film&Music,

Prince said: "It's fun being in Islamic countries, to know there's only one religion. There's order. You wear a burqa. There's no choice. People are happy with that." When asked about the fate of those unhappy with having no choice, he replied: "There are people who are unhappy with everything. There's a dark side to everything."

^^

FUCK it up,

all this from The Guardian - their "sensation" shit about burqas....... a fight on words.....

I believe what was written in the french article, and that wasn't that sensational, imho.

ps. I'm soooo sick of this, already... wink

Since bright colors and bolded shit clearly don't help you, I'm going to uh... Bold shit and make it colorful. *groan*

Hi. I did the Guardian interview and had no sinister agenda at all. In fact I almost left out the line about burqas because I thought it might take too much attention from the rest of the piece (which it did), although this French Q&A also misrepresents that part of the conversation because the “How can you stop people dressing” bit was in response to a follow-up question about the French burqa ban, not about muslim countries.

Inevitably with two people taking longhand notes (one of whom is doing an interview in his second language) there will be differences. Some of the French version is definitely wrong – it was clearly “loving tyrant” not “I love being a tyrant”, for example. Equally, I can’t say for sure that I didn’t mishear or mistranscribe a few words. I wish I could have recorded it and checked every word myself. But nothing was deliberately fabricated. Please don’t assume that there has to be some weird agenda behind everything.

If English is not your first language, you better ante up now and let everyone know so we can understand why YOU do not get why this doesn't fucking make sense and why Dorian's words are absolutely true.

@ Spinlight.

The Guardian made a sensation out of it - and so did the danish tabloid ekstrabladet.dk - that's all I am saying...

http://ekstrabladet.dk/mu...576346.ece

But it's too late (like someone wrote on page 1 in this thread).

The damage towards Prince's image is done.

Prince can maybe say something, trying to to tell what he actually meant, but it will change nothing.

Noone will take his answer for real...... all are viewing him like a nutcase, right...

Because it asks the question - is Prince a narrow minded knob who makes up scientific facts (about the brain) and makes sweeping statements about Islamic countries (how many has he visited and how many did he venture outside a westernised 5 star penthouse suite... Personally I don't think the people of Syria, Lybia and Egypt have been having a party recently).

Or is he just a knob?

Interview with Prince in Genre magazine, dating March 3rd, 2012:

So Prince, what do you do between recording, now that you've said you'll never tour again?

I like to visit other cultures. I like to go to China and walk among the common people. There’s so much order in China, it’s amazing, you know.

But isn’t China a dictatorship?

Well, you know, I’m just a guitar player. I’m music. But it’s so nice to go to China. People have order and respect, they follow the rules .. so maybe it’s good to have someone on the top saying “this is the way”..

What if people don’t want a leader? What about the women, the homosexuals?

Yeah, you know. A lot of times people just don’t know what’s good for them. I think burqas can set women free, it can bring them back closer to how God intended, you know. And gays .. well, gays should just not be gays, it’s in the Bible, because it’s better for them to not be like that, and if it takes a little force to free people of their sins, in the end .. is that so bad?

Dr.Funkenberry post, dating March 4th, 2012:

To clear up confusion, here’s the same interview from an unbiased source, The Republican Saviour:

So Prince, what do you do between recording, now that you've said you'll never tour again?

I like to stay home. I like to stay away from China and talk to fellow Christians. There’s so much comfort in the Bible, it’s amazing, you know.

That sounds nice, Prince.

Yeah you know. I just love everybody. I think the gays are cool, you know. I really condone every man’s right to get funky in the chunky with other men. And women! The should be free to choose what ever they like. Ain’t nobody’s gonna tell anyone what to wear. I believe in democracy!

So you are a real believer in democracy, eh?

Digital things are digital. I’m music, so I’m not gonna release them digits. God is analogue. I like birds. They go tweet.

I'm not trying to defend Prince, but would like to add a bit of logic here.

Two journalists talk to one pop star, both of them are not allowed to record anything. Both have to write up what they've heard from memory. Result: they can both equally be wrong. The only difference is that one of them is a native speaker of the pop star's language while the other one isn't. That doesn't have to mean anything (the French guy might have a brilliant command of English - we don't know him, do we?), but it could indicate that the probablilty of the French dude to get things wrong is per se slightly higher. However, this is complete speculation. Without having been there and without a recorded tape, we don't know exactly what has been said. That's the whole point of Prince denying recorded interviews, isn't it? That he can correct himself afterwards as he wants. That doesn't take away the simple fact though that we don't know what exactly has been said.

The argument of the editor of The Guardian is ridiculous though. I guess The Sun also has a huge readership, but how reliable is it? He has to trust his coworker just as we have to. The only difference is that he knows the guy, and he might thus know him to be a reliable person - in general. Anyway, even a reliable person isn't right all of the time.

Prince is abolutely total narcissict who's ego is still reeling from the post- Purple Rain backlash and the subsequent 20 years of COMMERCIAL FAILURE. He knows the majority of us can't stand his 90's music, and straight-up ignore his so-boring-it's-not-even-comical Jehovah's Witness infused releases of the last decade. Play us Purple Rain, bytch. That's all we care about and he is frustrated as hell that he can't light a fire through his music anymore, so he plays games with music critics and reporters. They are to Prince what paparazzi was to MJ. "Prince will call you in 5 min are you ready?" "HE will see you now." "You may be allowed to take notes" Blah blah blah. Reporters have nothing to lose. They go through his bullshyt and play his game and he feels like he's SOMEBODY, by f*cking with them. A lot of his ex-girlfriends describe the same sort of power gamesmanship and negativity. Why would you respect any of that?

I'm sorry but this absolutely nuts. Any of it could be true and any of it could be just stuff rattling around in your brain. The crazy thing is that you are so invested in the supposed thoughts of Prince that you find so discusgting but can't seem to leave him alone. its stalking really. No better than a bitter boyfriend that keeps tabs on a ex-girlfriend simply to spew hate about her to anyone who will listen. Seriously folks there are sick people on this board.

But doesn't all this mean in the end that nobody really knows exactly what was or was not said there?

We only know about it that the artist has tried to point out something about the freedom of religion and the order and peace he thinks religion does bring into the live of everyone around the world.

This is part of his believe and he wanted to show it to the reader and his fans as well as his thoughts on todays music - business.

With that I think this was an interview like every other interview of the past ten years. So in the end it remains that "Everything you think - is true"

This is pretty easy isn't it?

So people just let us go to our beloved summer - concerts this year and enjoy what this Artist can do best and what we actually love him for:

Here in France was a national debate about forbiding women to wear burqa (which is strange : what should be forbidden is to force anyone to do anything, but well, french government is very conservative those days... But that's not my point)

So.

It could be true that Prince heard about this debate - why not, he sometimes lives in France, doesn't he ? Or didn't he ? So chatting about burqa could be relative to this particular context.

But.

The french journalist has obviously this recent context in mind. How do we know which questions came from the english or french one ? Cause if Prince's anwser could be sum up to "wearing burqa is not the problem, the problem is what leads you to wear it" it may not be so stupid...

What's missing here is who intended to have a talk about this or that or such another subject. I guess the cultural background of each of the tree guys in that interview and their own knowledge (perceptions/prejudices) of local and recent contexts are the first barriers, then the language...

Hope my poor english is "understandable" lol

I don't understand why people are surprised that the diehards are still defending their purple liege. Anyone that's been here for 5 minutes, knows that the diehards will defend Prince for ANY AND EVERYTHING.

The thing i don't get is how some do not understand the difference between an interview being transcribed in English and one that's transcribed from English to French and back to English. Anyone that SPEAKS A SECOND LANGUAGE understands that often it's difficult as there are words that don't exist in the other language and there are different ways of structuring sentences.

As someone pointed out, Google Translate a song from English to another language and then back to English and you'll end up with something unrecognizable.

Reading the Le Parisien article you can tell that it was transcibed wrong. It doesn't even sound like anything that Prince would say. But of course, the diehards don't see that. Anything that paints P in the best possible light is what they're going to hang on to.

I'm glad The Guardian spoke up to set the record straight.

I can't see much difference with the French version and the Guardians version. Just proves Prince said what he said. At the end of the day if Prince likes burqas and if he like women to wear them its up to him, lots of Muslims wear burqa with with pride and good for them. yeah his comments wasnt correct but to me its like the non-Muslims to seem to have more of a problem with his comments than actual Muslims do. And really, nobody cares about this beyond the fans and few sensationalist, I'm sure bored of it.

This is not front news worthy and cannot figure why this nonsense is. I'm sure theres some concert reviews of his shows that should be.

Prince said some stuff to an English & a French journalist, both of whom were'nt allowed tape recorders.

They then went away and wrote up their articles.

The Telegraph (we're not talking the Sun or Daily HateMail here) then released an article with slightly different wording to the French one, which was translated from English to French and then back to English.

The differences aren't that huge in all honesty, considering the above.

What's most important is the absolute bollocks that came streaming out of the wee one's mouth.

If he didn't mean it, he shouldn't have said it. He did, it was transcribed into 2 different languages.

The thing that baffles me more is the apollogists. Instantly ready to defend Prince's honour by crying 'bad journalism' whilst putting their fingers in their ears and going 'lalallalalala'.

MENTAL!

And come on - it's not like this is new for Prince!

He's been sharing his "special" opinions for as long as he has been in the public eye.

The man needs to stop doing interviews and just give us some good music.

I don't care about his opinion on burqas, chemtrails, or anything else - unless he wants to write a song about it with a funky beat!

For someone whom REPEATEDLY seems to have to say that he was "misquoted" when doing interviews, I would think by now that he would be tired of that happening to him and would allow the interviews to be recorded. So he could then make the reporters produce the tapes publicily and humilate them into admitting that they accidently or even purposely "misquoted" him.

So why doesn't Prince do that?

My theory:

He likes the bullshit. He likes being able to say whatever stupid shit that he wants and if it is not received to his liking, then he walks it back with "I was misquoted." Think about it, how many times has Prince been "misquoted" in the last 10 years?

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

And of course all of this could be settled if Prince allowed journalists to record interviews. It only makes it more suspicious that he doesn't...

He never has. ever, so how does it make it suspicious? really?....
