The BS they are giving over language barriers is something to cover their asses. They fucked up and they know it.

These seedy journalists love to twist words to the way they want them to sound, b/c what the French article wrote wasn't juicy enough or controversial enough for them....they had to spice it up. Dorian and his editor should be ashamed!! I hope this isn't getting Prince down.

The media always tries to tear down our great musicians! And the UK media is the most notorious for bogus interviews and always seems to be "misquoting" people. They are shameless!

Whatever Prince said, I'm sure it was well thought out and had a point which wasn't clearly printed in the article, and now people are jumping all over it, instead of thinking what he could have meant by what he said, or if it was even true.

"Just b/c its in print, doesn't mean its the gospel!"

From what you have written, you demonsrate little to no understanding of the range of different contributors to the UK media or where the Guardian sits within the UK media.

Yeah - no.

I think that might be Prince's issue. His answers during interviews do not seem to be well thought out or at the very least, not appropriately expressing his intended opinion.

I am all for cutting the guy some slack just because I love his music, but even in live interviews, he has still stated some kooky views, so we can't always blame it on the journalist.

I agree that journalists can take creative license to spin an article a certain way, but at the end of the day, Prince says some crazy shit sometimes and we should just accept that about him.

Oh I agree he says some crazy things. But I think they are well thought out...I think that's how he thinks! Prince is extremely intelligent and knows what he's doing.. He marches to the beat of his own drum. lol And that I accept and love about him. He is who he is, and while it may seem like a slip of tongue for the rest of the world, I believe Prince has a motive for what he says and it means something to him. And some folks "get him" while others do not. That really is true for his music, his looks, everything. Some folks get it and love it...while others do not.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I don't understand why people are surprised that the diehards are still defending their purple liege. Anyone that's been here for 5 minutes, knows that the diehards will defend Prince for ANY AND EVERYTHING.

The thing i don't get is how some do not understand the difference between an interview being transcribed in English and one that's transcribed from English to French and back to English. Anyone that SPEAKS A SECOND LANGUAGE understands that often it's difficult as there are words that don't exist in the other language and there are different ways of structuring sentences.

As someone pointed out, Google Translate a song from English to another language and then back to English and you'll end up with something unrecognizable.

Reading the Le Parisien article you can tell that it was transcibed wrong. It doesn't even sound like anything that Prince would say. But of course, the diehards don't see that. Anything that paints P in the best possible light is what they're going to hang on to.

I'm glad The Guardian spoke up to set the record straight.

Yeah anyone with a brain can see that when something foreign is translated to English, it's usually worded wrong anyways. But I guess defending his quotes or saying that he said something "different" in the French article makes some sleep well at night. shrug More power to them but some of us know the truth.

The Guardian are to be commended for even trying to put the record straight - though they must realize that pushing back against a wave misinformed, fan-triggered opinion is ultimately futile, and beneath them.

Anyway, Prince still comes across as religious fucking nutjob whatever the vagaries of translation.

The fact that the guardian have even gone to re-press means they are confident there house is in order.

For sure.

Surely, he said some shit and sure he meant at least some of it. But then surely the journalists also made it into more shit, leaving it for the fans and the rest of the media to rip it to shreds.

The buck starts and stops with Prince. If Prince would allow for interviews to be taped, this could have been avoided. If Prince would WANT this to be cleared up, he would.

But all he was after was a stir, to get some publicity. That´s the why he did this, if you ask me.

The man got a show to sell out in France for tomorrow. Le Stade de France, with 80.000 seats no less and its sales are still not looking that good.

yeah prince has said/done some questionable things...and some of them from what we've heard reprehensible; others basically "20 lbs. of crazy in a 5 lb. sack". some of these things entertain, others spark debate, emotions run high on both sides and the attacks become intensely personal. and so here we are and prince has proven he is either

a) a public relations savant (a rethinking of a previous belief of mine that he needed a publicist) and gotten wide-spread media attention for free by purposefully misdirecting the conversation,

b) a thoughtless narcissist who puts out less than stellar chart toppers and says sh*t to piss off and abuse his fans; both those who support him cause they love his music and those that feel their support somehow makes him beholden

c) a musical genius who has human frailties like the rest of us

i see him as a combination of all of the above...not the devil or a saint. i too long for that prince album/cd that grabs you on the first note and spits you out on the last but i have resigned myself to the POSSIBILITY that it may not happen again. lightening strikes in the same place, but how often? besides he is 53... probably the age of many orgers' parents. are they still at the peak of their game? recall the other chart toppers from the 80's; where are they and if they're still in the game, how's it going for them? is there a different yardstick where prince is concerned?

there are moments in prince's career that i witnessed before the purple reign started that are more stellar to me...long before he was put on a pedestal that he would have to be knocked down from repeatedly, when he was actually a version of that vulnerable guy he allowed us to see a little of in "purple rain" before what ever demons, fears, desires or just sucky personality traits took over.

there are times i read or hear of things prince has said or done and cringe but then i remember the over-the-top (my words) eek reaction i got from my mom when she found out i was going to the concerts of the "little guy in the underwear" (my mom's words)...she said he's CRAZY...smart but CRAZY...and you for paying money to see him prance around on stage in his underwear...not smart, just CRAZY. i guess i always assumed he was going to be to the left of center with the ability to transform you at any given time with his music or confuse the hell out of you with his way of being.

i'm not going to put a spin on what prince allegedly said about women and burkas/burqas cause apparently even the folks who were there are not seeing eye to eye on what he said so i'm not prepared to defend or denigrate him for what is out there twisting up the media and the org.

i also chose to believe he is not going into the studio (recording rehab) because he's currently recording everything live while he's touring...a girl can dream cool

I live in the U.S., but, for international news, I trust The Guardian more than any U.S. newspaper. The people on here who are talking about The Guardian as if it were the equivalent of a supermarket tabloid obviously haven't spent much time in the U.K.

I also don't see how the Dr. Funkenberry version of the article refutes the obvious fact that Prince is a control freak who has lately taken a weird interest in Islamic female headgear.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Prince, himself...KNOWS that...better than any of us...right?

Hello!!!!

Hello (Hello) Hello (Hello) {x2}

I tried 2 tell them that I didn't want 2 sing
But I'd gladly write a song instead
They said OK and everything was cool
Till a camera tried 2 get in my bed (Hello)
My bed (Hello) (Hello)

I was sittin' pretty with a beautiful friend (“Oh darling”)
When this man tries 2 get in the car
(“Hey Prince, come on, give us a smile, eh?")
No introduction, “How've U been?”
Just - "Up yours! Smile, that's right, U're a star!" (Star)

U call 'em bodyguards but I call 'em my friends
I guess I'm used 2 havin' 'em around
And cameras by nature like rewards
That's the trouble I get when I'm Uptown

I'm not afraid 2 die cuz I know there's a better place 2 go
(Don't be afraid cuz there's a better place 2 go)
I eat what I want, whole wheat toast
(U can eat what U want, anything is cool in moderation)
And I'm happy, and that's 4 sure

We're against hungry children, our record stands tall
But there's just as much hunger here at home
We'll do what we can if y'all try 2 understand
A flower that has water will grow
And a child misunderstood will go
Hello! {x3}
(Hello)

Everybody
We're against hungry children, our record stands tall
But there's just as much hunger here at home
We'll do what we can if y'all try 2 understand
A flower that has water will grow
And the child misunderstood will go
Our record stand tall, U know
Give us time and love will show
Hello! {x3}

By now, shouldn't he ALSO KNOW...how to protect himself from that? confuse
