Back on topic: Are his claims on Islamic countries stupid? Yes! But he actually probably realised this when he gave the interview, hence the attempt to explain himself. The point I get from it (and that I assume he wanted to make) would be that limiting freedom can make sense, but the example he picked simply was a trainwreck.

Limiting freedom does NOT make sense and ANY example picked to explain it would be a trainwreck. wink

Wow. That was a challenging read, still a bit confused.

I guess I'll give 'Dirty Mind' another spin!

This is a bit too simplistic imo. There is nothing like unlimited freedom. We're not allowed to kill other people. We're not allowed to steal. And so on... O.k., all of these examples are actions that are illegal because they actually limit other people's freedom. But even beyond that, our freedom is not unlimited. One cannot just travel into a foreign country without proper visa. One cannot have sex in public or walk around naked, though technically, that wouldn't limit other people's freedom.

Besides such rules, the only proper reasoning to limit freedom imo is to limit it yourself for yourself only and on a voluntary basis. Maybe this is what Prince found out for himself. He just shouldn't come up with examples then where things are forced on people. He's a better guitar player than political analyst, that's for sure. biggrin

Women wearing burqas over bikinis. Now, that's some Prince-ly shit right there. nod

This is all a part of Prince's new plan.

He is going to go to Islam and round up all the women,

(because thosenon Jahova loving men loose the right to their women)

then he is going to demand that they drop their clothes

and put on purple bikinis...that have his symbol on them

(because THAT proves that his actions are based on love, duh)

and if anyone refuses, he will point his gold pistol mic at them

and remind them that there is "no choice." Then comes the

Burqas...because he wants to keep his women classy...and

doesn't want themdistracting from his belly-chain or half moon earrings.

It's good to be Prince lol

I disagree that it is a simplistic view. IMO, the only restrictions should be those you mention, those that infringe on the freedoms of others.

I agree that personal limits on freedom is the true path, but, Prince's example did not remotely suggest such a thing. His example explicitly focused on forcing "correct" choices on people.

As to your last sentence, I agree again, and think he should follow Frank Zappa's advice and 'Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar'. biggrin

The contradictions are hilarious. The part about the band knowing
300 songs so no set is the same. And the bit about the purple rain
tour shows being so hard because they had to play the same songs
every night.

It's the other way around now. The fans are going mad because he
keeps playing the same tired old shit and he just keeps going on.

But hey, the band knows 300 songs. falloff

No way do I believe that band has practiced 300 songs. While I have zero complaints about Prince's live shows--and having seen a bunch of them fairly recently, I can say they're awesome--this "300 songs" thing is just a plain-out lie.

Maybe a couple dozen.

let's hope there's a massive backlash, prince goes bankrupt, ends up on the streets wearing his manky denim jacket from sign o the times developing a massive crack cocaine, fucks god right off, gets back in touch with his demons and makes a brutally honest album about his insecurities and weaknesses. a long shot i know, but gil scott heron managed it, r.i.p. brother.

Yes that too. Me and my fella (a hardcore P fan, well use to be) was only talking last night of how much Prince has changed towards his fans, its like now there his ememies or something.

Now? Go watch the special he had on VH1 in January 1996: instead of just videos, he had to inject a lame story line, and it's about... a stalker fan. And since then he's attacked fan mags, sued fan web sites,...

But if I dont hear anything to say hes not been misquoted

From whom? Princey? I recall how they were "factchecking" his interviews in the late 1990s/early 2000s on his official site, and usually they found issue with the stupidest shit, while ignoring the outright lies Prince himself spewed.

If he wants to be accurately quoted, all he has to do is allow the reporter to tape the interview and allow him to post it online. If he refuses to even allow reporters to take notes...

I know the chances of him saying anything against the article are remote, I always just like to try to keep my mind open and positive. As I said before in the post, I'm not and cannot support a man(Prince) with views like that.

And I dont watch Prince stuff, I cant remember the last time I watched anything with Prince in it probably the last time was on the lotus site. I dont go around collecting videos of him and analyse everything hes does I leave that to the all the male Prince fans who frequent theses sites and who seem to have a phd in Princes life, not my thing and quite frankly find it a bit weird. I prefer to see other artists theses days. Prince is playing near me in two weeks and I dont even wanna go. So dont go on like you know me. Infact I find your comments quite laughable. So you go watch your 1996 VH1 special and your other Princey stuff, I'm not interested.

For there to be a backlash, there'd have to be a forelash lol - He's not relevant enough for this to go further than all his other loopy comments. People just basically say "Oh it's Prince, we know he's a sandwich short of a picnic, but his 80s stuff was ace" -- Read the Guardian comments, no one gives a toss.
