Great song...this came up on my iPod shuffle mode...and I jammed!
Funky squared! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I was watching Family Ties earlier today. I've never seen the movie this song came from, but I know Michael J. Fox was in it. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

"Purple rain, purple rain I only want to see u underneath the purple rain"
Man, I had this LP since it was released, but never made it to the end of the record; until now what a great song! Stop the Prince Apologists ™

One of his best ever, the song was credited to Camille and was recorded in 1986. The lyrics are very clever and the melody ensures it is one of his best creations. That song always puts me in a positive space. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

I was obsessed by this track at one point.
Track down the Bright Lights Big City soundtrack where it was originally released in 1988, it's a longer version than on CB.

"Bright Lights, Big City" is my favorite soundtrack of all time!!! You can't go wrong with an album that has Prince, New Order, Depeche Mode and Bryan Ferry!!! Add to that "Pump up the volume" by M/A/R/R/S and you have perfection!!! Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

By boot, I'm assuming you mean outtake, but as mentioned, it was released in 1988.

oh, I remember when that song came out. At the time I had no car so I took the city bus to the mall to get the BLBC soundtrack and road back with the tape feeling like a dork but wishing I had a walkman.
Oh and for years I thought there was a video for the song. In the movie when the song is played you can see some tvs playing a clip of someone dancing. Years later I recorded it and saw it was just random dancers. [Edited 11/27/10 7:45am] "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Konk's "Love Attack" is great too

Agreed! There isn't a bad song on the whole album! Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I usually always go for the longer versions of Prince songs, but in this case I think the edit makes for a more concise, tidy version (cut out that "good love part 2, la,la,la" crap).

I'm pretty sure it's been issued once.

Yeah, I don't think the BC,BL soundtrack was ever re-issued without the track. The only possible explanation if such a release exists is perhaps a weird import version??

I remember this song getting plenty of radio play the summer of 88. I bought Lovesexy soon after and was disapointed it was not on the album but rather on a soundtrack. I bought the soundtrack just for the song but remembered that it also included Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order which i also loved.

The New Order song was "True faith" Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Our local R&B station played this song alot in the late spring of 88...so much,in fact, that I assumed it was the new single from a new Prince album I too was disappointed that it was only a soundtrack song.I think it would have fit perfectly on 'Lovesexy'.
