Building a Prince Telecaster Replica

Hi All,

Has anyone had any success building a Telecaster that looks like Princes?

Obviously you can buy Tele Bodies and necks from a number of places, all of varying quality but the Madcat / Anderson / Hohner guitar is an interesting spec.

Anyone aware of a Fender tele model off the shelf which has a body with maple tinted top, centre join stripe and black binding?

Nope...and believe me I've looked and looked and looked for almost 2 years...even the bits and bobs you can pick up aren't that similar. You'll jet have style for similar and work from there. The nearest I got (affordable) was the fender squire butterscotch blonde special addition - it looks mildly (very mildly) similar as a 'tribute' but is still whhhhaaaay off and has good specs..you could probably mod it from there.

I guess it depends what you want to spend

Dammit! Thanks for the reply. I won't look too hard if you've already been there and done it.

How much do I want to spend? Hardly anything! smile I WAS going to buy a Fender Mexican Tele as I've fallen in love with the Roadworn Mex Tele that the other guitarist in my band uses, I was kinda hoping that when it came to finding the right model I could match the Prince guitar.

Think Fender are missing a trick here....

Just an update. After some scouring of the Net I was able to find a place called ATC Guitar Works, who have done a Madcat replica in the past for a one-off order, for a left-handed customer.

You can see the body here:

http://atcguitarworks.com/products/bodies/attachment/lefty-flame-maple2/

The company trade on eBay as ATCGUITARS and Atilla there kindly qouted me for a Madcat project (in right-handed):

We made the body and neck for a gentlemen from Belgium. A right handed version is available and price would be $600 for a lacquer finished body. Matching flame maple neck is also available for $400.

Lorila, I don't really know what you said but you can buy the guitar body and neck like Prince's from ATC Guitars in the USA.
