this is a good song .. not great like adore or purple rain by a long shot .. mostly like betcha by golly wow but im gonna say still not as good .. i really like the lyrics mostly .. its the whole "this is the future soul song" line that kinda ruins it for me .. the oooh eee oooh is classic but who wants to look into ur future lovers eyes and sing "this is the future soul song" to her .. huh?? it just does not work as the main line in any song .. the only song about the song being a song that works for me is "this is not a love song" .. i keep wanting to hear him sing ... ooh eee ooooh sha la la la la ive seen the future and it will be .. ive seen the future and it works .. but as is the concept works worse than the UGH "i am the cybersingle" and the equally cringe worthy "interactive"
i really do think this record is a vast improvement but i still think we may be 2 or 3 records away from what will come to match 1999 - SOTT era quality
i am hoping for the quirky rhythyms of 1983 mixed with the raw attitude of dirty mind mixed with analog off beat sounds .. imagine when doves cry played out with hand drums rattles and other handmade instruments .. real sounding acoustic guitars and keyboards .. as is with the drum machine, really bad keyboard sounds, and overly clean neat and perfect production .. it all sounds like demos still, but better than usual demos

Ummm, this is not a romantic love song AT ALL, so why are you acting as if it fails in that category? This is a spiritual track from beginning to end.

Forget the words, listen to him sing this song. Outstanding! Ovation! We are all so full of here

beautiful vocals. great concept. its Still Would Stand All Time (sorta; content wise) meets classic love ballad (pick one; Adore, Insatiable) in arrangement. lush, beautiful, layered vocals

Prince love song by numbers. But who the hell cares, as it works so well. Lovely velvetty vocals.
Weak lyrics yet again, can do without the ooh sha la la crap, but as with the last track, I am happy to let the vocals slide and just enjoy the rest of it. It's like a beautiful flower that would probably be best to look at from a distance and not inspect too closely.
Good. Love the heavy guitar in the middle, sounds like the habibi/gold experience sound, which is alright by me blah blah blah

Beautiful song....the only highlight(s) (and sticky like glue) in a somewhat dissapointing album.

Perhaps my favorite song on the album. Love the deep voice, piano and guitar solo. I really enjoy this new album. I'm finding that the more I play it, the more I like it. No Purple and Gold here... just platinum!

If I were forced by gunpoint to assemble a "greatest hits" of discs since Musicology, this would be the sole representation of this album. However, that's only based on the music which, I confess, stirred up nostalgic feelings (ala "Somewhere Here On Earth").
But like SHOE, the lyrics are pretty bad.
• Did you first think Prince was gay? •
Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

It annoys me that the song refers to itself as a song, and the title too. It's like Russell Brand calling his bio "My Booky Wook". Yuck yuck yuck.

c thas wut i wuz tryin ta say .. romantic er not i feel no connection to singing along to a chorus of "this is the furture soul song" and its a shame cuz the rest of the song really is sooo good .. the sha la la bit reminds me of old motown like "my girl" which is romantic and even if was about people and hollow earth and energy fields, manifestation of thought and being all is one and one is all .. it still needs a better chorus other than just reminding us of what the song title is. its like "one song" i am the one song .. well if u IS the one song then just BE the one song .. so if this IS the future soul song then just BE the future soul song .. dont sing about telling us what the song is just be the song singing about future soul ..
maybe prince just got lazy and had his pad and paper out shooting off song titles as a start point and wanted a future soul song but didnt have a title yet so he just called it future soul song but then when he had written the actual song he couldnt think of a chorus so he went sha la la la and it was good so he said what the fuck that was easy i bet i could just call it future soul song then i really dont have to think of any more chorus at all ..
yup eyem pretty sure thats what happened .. 3 more records to go till he drops the classic .. he is gettin there

Sha la la fuckin la...
I haven't got past this point of the album yet. It conjures musical nightmares from the seventies like The Stylistics - bland, cringe-worthy and shamefully revelling in it's own stupidity - terrible stuff.
I think I'll skip the rest of the album and only show interest in his back catalogue - the 'new' stuff just doesn't appeal to me anymore.

Listening to this song for the second time--I actually like it better the second time around. The lyrics are positive and happy and so are the "la-la-las" and the music is not over produced... Over-all, I would give it a B--Because it feels like the feeling behind it is true and I like the music production on it. Not over preachy--nice peach of a song.
