Michael did write most of his songs, but Prince is more know for that he can play so much instruments, and write his songs too.
But yeah, i have to agree Michael is more a entertainer, Prince is more musician...
I love MJ so much, he's a true legend, but Prince too ofcourse, but he has his own things that he is good at. They are really different artists. |

Point me in the direction of his voicing respect for MJ after he died. Thanks.
He never publically voiced respect for his parents when they died, or James Brown, or Rick James. Apart from covering him, i could never see him saying anything publically. Don't forget Michael was a dis-fellowshipped JW too, so that may have some bearing.
One of your peers, the same age as you, dying must have an effect on a person. Perhaps Prince was shocked, something like that must hit home and bring things into perspective. But yeah, it's more than likely Prince just being an ass. He mentioned MJ indirectly loads of times on record. It smacked of classless jealousy and stupidity sometimes.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt though.
Just a slight correction, Mike was never a baptized JW so he was never disfellowshipped, only disassociated.
I believe the only baptized and true JW sibling is Maureen (Reebie) Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up |

I still do not have proof that Prince mutually respected Michael. No one has not one documented article, or interview where Prince said that he respected MJ as an artist.
I agree wholeheartedly that MJ was a much better vocalist than Prince. Just check out some of Michael's childhood ballads, as well as his more contemporary work. Personally I think those nose surgeries fugged with Michael's voice...but the brother could defintely get down on a microphone.
Prince's voice has grown significantly since Purple Rain. I think Prince has demonstrated a little more versatility vocally recently. But MJ still trumps Prince vocally, as far as I'm concerned. Prince's falsetto voce is what "tricks" folks into thinking that he's all that. But when you listen to his full voice (particullary in the past) it was not all of that.
I don't know what exactly you are looking for. However, have you read this Vibe.com article from a fellow orger? It gives some more background into past Prince/MJ interactions. As I said in my previous post, Prince PLAYED MJ'S MUSIC AT HIS OWN CONCERT. Is that not an indication of respect for another artist's artistry - learning and playing their music?
With regard to vocal ability, it's all relative with regard to whose voice you prefer. I agree that Prince has grown vocally over the years. However, to me, Prince's vocal ability was very evident as far back as the title track of his first album.
You're right Bellanoche. He played MJ's music when he was promoting/touring with Tamar, all through 2006, and even after that tour ended, Prince continued playing MJ's songs during his entire stay at the 3121 Club in Vegas. That was enough to tell me Prince had major respect for MJ. I have had respect for both artists from the beginning of their careers. They've contributed so much to music, and that is why they both achieved legendary status, and are still (RIP MJ) respected artists in their own right. [Edited 7/3/10 12:20pm] |

Beatboxing an outline of what you want a musician to lay down is not the same as writing music or playing it yourself.
Beatboxing and drumming is not the same. True!
Humming and bassplaying is not the same. True!
Singing and playing melodic instruments is not the same. True!
Being Michael is not the same as being Prince. True!
But thank god or anyone that is to be thanked for the fact that some of the best music was composed that way. If it wasn't for Michaels unbelievable talent for singing and structuring rythms and melody on top of each other, we wouldn't have those classics. They are two amazing geniouses perfecting different aspects of music and entertainment.

I think most just assume pop stars don't have any say or input into their career. Prince was never really classified as pop or a pop star so he avoided that. Michael had big, fun, lavish videos and for some reason the public doesn't always equate fun with quality or talent (kinda like how comedies rarely get Oscar noms). To them a "real" artist is one doing pub shows or who isn't mainstream. [Edited 7/4/10 2:16am] |

because whether or not a thread stays open is more important than the human decency it takes to never let these discussions get out of hand ?
because the truth is so unbearable, that when it comes, folks cant handle it and want to cry about a thread lock ?
ur right. its definitely sick.
surely people cant expect to keep talking smack about Michael, over and over and over, like some monotonous neuronal disease, without someone laying the smackdown?
what we really need is more classy Prince advertisements, you know, take the opportunity while we can.

Michael wasn't a composer, though. He was a lyricist. That's why they see Prince different. He performs and writes everything he puts down on record other than horns and even then he can emulate that sound on the keys.

I can't quote him, you'll have to find it. In an interview after a paris show/tv show was taped, a reporter asked about Micheal after the Trial. Prince said something very profound. Something like, Everyone has to come home. (maybe someone can help with that quote) And yes i know Michael hadnt passed away at that point. But Prince Respected Michael all along. So why is it necessary for you to hear that Prince Respects Michael after his death?
Nevermind. Only you can answer that one.
Peace.
Prince apparently said "Its always hard losing someone you love". |

I'd say that "Life Of The Party" is the only one that can be argued as being remotely pointed @ jacko.
The others are simply plays on his own name. Prince/King.
"The Good Life" takes a stab @ Tito (if you can call it a stab), not Michael.
(D')
The entire reason Prince used the "There are no kings on this earth, only Princes" is a DIRECT reaction to MJ's moniker of being "the King of Pop"! You must realise this, surely?!
And let's also take Fascination, which you claim is not even "remotely pointed @ jacko"
"The most vital thing in pop (MJ had also been recently declared as "the most vital thing in pop")
is the epitome of doom,
You wake up in a cold sweat
Cos one of em's in your room
Singing from the telly
Making more bucks than sense (one of the jacksons is always to be found on TV, making $)
So called King (cannot be anything other than Jackson - so-called King!)
Gives birth to so-called Prince (referring to the recent birth of Jackson's song).
If you really can't fathom from all of this that these things are about MJ then you need to brush up a little on those comprehension skills!
yeah, Life of the Party, 2 whom it may concern, Fascination were all directly referring to MJ. To say otherwise is just blindness, like those that think "she may not be in the red" (America) is not a double meaning for both Dept and communism.
But I do not really think it is a big deal to misinterpret a lyric. People tend to personalize the songs and they may not want to let go of the meaning a given lyric has for them. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!" |
