With over 100 million albums sold worldwide, one of the BIGGEST artists on the planet is back - PRINCE
Whoa... what the.... he never left. He is quite possible the only artist I know that averages 1.3 albums a year. Back is a bold statement.
We are all so full of here

I don't think that's the one. Its too vague. Seems to be done for the website only. Either way, i hope they do something, that Planet Earth one was on every ad break and really helped! This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

It's just a sales tactic.. and given that he doesn't have the same popularity that he might have once had with being young and current.. it might be wise to add that with every album he puts out from here on out.. Aside from his fan base.. who honestly keeps up with him..
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
who honestly keeps up with any musician if they are not a fan of that musician?
prince is different from any other artist, 21 nights in london proved that, every show sold out with no real promotion. most artists to date couldnt do it and with prince he did it with little or no radio play, tv advertisements, just his name. so prince being unpopular, not current, i dont think so.

Maybe I should be more specific.. aside from his fan base.. who keeps up with his current music? It would be a good idea to put "He's back" in ads...
Concerts are a whole different thing.. Like Paul McCartney.. His shows are always slam packed.. but those same people usually don't keep up with this current studio albums. [Edited 7/7/10 8:39am]

maybe i should say this again only fans will keep up with his current everything thats what a fan is, if your not a fan you wont keep up to date on what is prince is doing. that goes the same for every famous person on the planet. if your not a fan you wont follow.
true concerts are different but 21 nights in london was not a normal set of concerts, with the show you also got his new album so again prince unpopular nope just clever in his ways of self promotion. [Edited 7/7/10 8:50am]

I have to admit Im actually starting to get a bit excited now. Prince has been in the daily record everyday this week and its been great. Now if the Mail on Sunday had done this kind of build up for Planet Earth Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I played the snippets of the songs to a work collegue today and she instantly said, 'funky as hell' (not being a prince fan herself) and also she said, he sounds amazing. i must agree he sounds in such good voice. just from those snippets he sounds warm in his voice and meaningful!
this could be something amazing here.

20Ten, thankfully, is a newspaper covermount; for which he's already received upfront payment; otherwise his "internet is dead" statement could potentially derail the CD rollout. It's unfortunate that sometimes his strangeness overshadows his prodigious talent.

I agree with you 100%. What he said was a total "shaking my head" moment. The music BETTER be on point. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

other artist have said the same thing, it does not matter, Prince has his fan base and has a large section of people who buy his music when they can get it, it no big deal really...
Anyone who goes out to buy the newspaper would be buying it for the Prince cd, if they like they will play it, if they don't they won't.
Like all Prince music 2 years from now people will be saying hey the tracks not bad!

Which is exactly my point - in that, this "response" (note the quotation marks, yeah?) was the best you could come up with! No argument, just sarcasm. Hence, point conceded, because you have no argument. See, it doesn't matter that you "try" and insult my intelligence, because you have no valid reasoning of your own and that could be down to one of 2 things or both - either you have no facts to base your argument on, or you're not intelligent enough to construct one.
Tell you what - why don't you ring whatever is the major newspaper round your way and tell them you've got something for them that will help them sell more papers, so you want $500,000 for it, but they're not allowed to see what it is. In fact, why not just ask them for $10,000? I mean, they're so desperate, they'll do anything, right? This is how business works, right?! LMFAO! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

There are way too many stickies in Music and More for 20Ten. It is a disorganized jumbled mess and people are posting so many dupe threads because there are too many stickies to look in to see if a post has been made. I suggest that someone consolidate the threads into one, two, or three 20TEN threads covering various topics, such as one for the release methods( all of them in one thread ) , one for magazine covers/interviews, and one for reviews of the album. As it currently stands, it is sloppy and poorly thought out.

Prince is not an album artist, he's never done the typical artist album, the only time he did this was Purple Rain ....and it's his biggest hit for this reason
Prince plays too many styles of music, to be labeled an Album Artist, and the same albums you have listed have knock out tracks , which everyone loves they just don't like the album as a whole....
But really that's Prince, hence the problem with WB, they wanted him to keep pushing out PR 2 , he didn't.... Eye Was Born & Raised On The Same Plantation In The United States Of The Red, White And Blue Eye Never Knew That Eye Was Different Til Dr. King Was On The Balcony

Without the internet I would have missed a lot of concerts and still hadn't heard anything about the new album. And I guess that's the same for the majority of his fans. Prince benefits so much from the internet nowadays but denies it. Pretty stupid imho.

I believe the term "album artist" refers to an act whose albums still gather interest without a hit single. Prince is a perfect example because his last several albums sold decently even though radio doesn't touch him. As opposed to a "singles artist" whose albums depends on the success of singles. Most pop acts are in the latter category.

I think your post is based on Headlines and Mis-information ......
Prince is not attacking the internet just the way business (music) is done via it's main Corporates, they are attacking like the record companies of old, hence his problem.
Prince as most other artist out their see the internet as a channel to market, they deliver goods and a service to users with little overhead, but they are acting like record compaines ....
That's not right.... they are not developing talent, helping to market or support the artist ....
They are just a middle man.... Prince is cutting them out! (not the internet - the business side itunes etc...and the torrant websites that make money off getting music before it's released)

Exactly! If it wasn't for the internet, I might not have ever seen Prince in concert, hell I might not have known about his CD's after WB either. The thing that bugs me with Prince and this situation is that he keeps on talking about how bad the internet is but what is HE doing to make it better? What is his plan to make the internet that much better for other artists, if he's even thinking about other artists? I know that he's all about living in the now and not dealing with yesterday but what about tomorrow? He's not proactive with a solution or trying to even come up with one. Prince needs prayer and a slap in the head. [Edited 7/7/10 12:33pm] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

we just gotta accept prince does what he wants when he wants, thats the joy of his freedom. ok so identity didnt like the rave album, what about the dvd? where prince might fail to some in album quality he gets back double in live performances, musicology and 21 nights tours were absolutely awsome, especially the o2 shows and the symbol stage and aftershows. the last aftershow i was at and he just blew us all away, planet earth the album didnt matter, prince standing centre stage with his guitar jamming away until the very early hours next day was all we all cared about. him duetting with amy winehouse is a memory i will cherish for a very long time.

Prince has no clue about the internet. He can't handle it on his own, because he's not the best businessman. And instead of seeking help from professionals and taking good advice from them, he's acting like a diva. And that's pretty sad. I can understand that he and other artists are pretty pissed because record sales are on an all time low because of the internet and mp3. But you can't turn back time and he should see the opportunities that this new digital age brings instead of moaning and bitching and holding on to old ideas, that the younger (new power) generation is sick and tired about to hear. What's cool to them might be strange to him, but if he'd just believe his whole world would change.

I think you are confusing "album artist" with "commercial artist" here because Prince is abso-f*cking-lutely an album artist. In fact, he's an album artist in more than one sense. a) He's an album artist because his albums tend to sell decently even when he can't seem to manage a hit single (3121 for example). b) He's an album artist because most of his releases are created as a cohesive project. It's not just a random collection of a couple commercial sounding tracks and then 8 more bits of filler. Releases like Parade, Lovesexy, etc are good examples.
OTOH, Prince is not a "commercial artist" in general. It's rare that he releases albums where their main purpose of creation is to draw mainstream attraction (rare examples might be Prince, Diamonds & Pearls, RAVE, Musicology).
Also, I don't believe Purple Rain is really a "commercial album". 1984 was just one of those rare occasions where Prince's inspiration and occasional genius fell into sync with a mass audience's taste at the time. When Doves Cry is not a commercial, mainstream type of release. The most commercial sounding track on PR is, ironically, the worst performing of its singles - Take Me With U.
He's, also, not a "singles artist" either. Outside of a few brief years, Prince could never be counted on to crank out hit after hit.

SHIIIIIIIIIIIT if Prince wants to impress me, sell the music on my local Entertainment Weekly or EBONY or JET or some shit. Don't just put it on Rolling Stone and USA Today hahaha... but somehow I just don't see him doing this in the states. He'll probably make a deal with Warner Bros and it'll be in our stores. So much for "free music" here.
