Correct.

Larry allows video and photographing.

At London he posed for photo's and invited people to take them. When in the crowd playing bass solos he even turned toward people with cameras so they got a good look. All those Koko videos are up on YouTube.

SHOCKER! Larry is a DIFFERENT man to Prince! They don't agree on everything! And, everyone sit down and keep calm for this -

Prince does not do everything at Larry's behest.

Radical idea.

Just introduced.

Do. not. have. heart-attack.

lol

Good one. Reality-check.

It has been confirmed that Bria was indeed at the table with Prince and Rhonda Smith.

I love the part on the video where Prince is done playing guitar and just sticks it out to the first person he sees, the guitar player in back of him, the guy on guitar looks at him like "whuaw?" stops playing and takes it from him and looks for a place to set it down.

Prince is so full of himself, lol

Cool performance, thanks for posting.

Oh well... sigh

Honestly, you didn't miss that much. Prince only played one song and I could hardly hear him singing. He didn't do any fancy guitar solos or say much. I personally could have taken or left the Larry portion of the show (but then, I don't really know any Graham Central Station songs and Larry's mustache creeps me out). I felt like I was at some vaudeville church revival for most of it, especially when Tina came onstage and started waving her towel around! lol

The highlight of the night for me was actually not when Prince got on stage but when Greg Errico (the original Sly & the Family Stone drummer) played Dance to the Music with them. I think that's the first time he and Larry have played together since the 70s. He is an incredible drummer and seems like a genuinely nice guy. He played at The Bitter End afterwards with Days of Wild and after that show he spoke with every single person who approached him.

This is a sincere question. Why go to a concert of a artist that you do not care for and do not know any of the music?eek In addition, what does his having a mustache have to do with the price of peas. He is a man most men have facial hair. I am really starting to wonder about a lot of people on this board. eek

Yes, the towel was back -- it was black. Tina was grinning and pointing and shaking a tambourine, too. Thankfully it wasn't until close to the end.

(I have no idea what's going on with the quote boxes.)

well, ten years ago this is what made me less of a believer in the magic that is prince.

he and larry began playing 'thank you for lettin me be myself' and 'everyday people' at EVERY. SINGLE. SHOW.

anyhoo, it was beyond sad to see someone like prince, who has a huge catalog of songs to choose to play from, but for whatever reason, chooses to use up two songs of his live sets for those two, old, stale, not-fresh, dead boring, outdated, 70s classics.

it was quite sad that someone as creative as prince would sink to the level of playing the same stuff over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over

(and, he has played those two songs in concert even more times than i have typed that).

I like larry graham and all. he is a real gent.

but it was like wtaching the death of cool .. ..

ah well. if prince is satisfied with the joy he finds in repetition, then so be it. towel and all smile

[Edited 6/17/10 10:22am]

Were to begin with this B.S. I have seen Prince in concert 10 times since the mid-90s and heard

Sly songs at two shows (not aftershows) So what are you talking about he has not done that many tours with Larry Graham or had Larry on a lot of his music over the last decade. In addtion, he might be putting in covers at his shows because he said over 10 years ago that he was cutting out the rauchier material out of his concerts. Something you negative naysayers seem to have forgotten.

I wonder if people forget that prior to Larry G ...Prince was running musically with George Clinton. However,George likes his spliff lol so this buddy-ship fizzled out . Hearing Larry at his show was far different than him popping up during a Prince concert.Lets hope P mixes up his own set-list in the future. Just like we never tire of P's music...He never tires of Larry/Sly's songs.

Because I was given free tickets and despite his creepy mustache, Larry revolutionized the way the bass was played. I wanted to go and see what the man who invented the slap technique played like (and the guy whose bass playing Prince emulates). I actually recognized "I Can't Stand the Rain" because of the Missy Elliot cover, but didn't know it was a GCS song. shrug Just like I went to see the Marina Abromowitz show at MoMA even though I knew I probably wouldn't love it and didn't know any of her work -- it was important to see. Plus, I've heard you might find something you like or actually learn something when you try new things. omfg

That jam with Larry at Paisley last fall was insane. Folks can diss Larry all they like, but he and Prince have mad synergy onstage. shrug

Yeah, didn't you read? I learned that GCS did the original "I Can't Stand the Rain". And I learned that I'm not really a fan of the other songs in GCS's catalogue. lol Oh, I also learned that Prince borrowed the march in playing drums (from his MTV Play in the Sunshine performance) from Larry as that's how GCS enters the venue. Totally worth the price of a free ticket! razz

So, the answer is no.....she didn't learn anything.

"I Can't Stand the Rain" was originally written and recorded by Ann Peebles.

It was then covered by the likes of Eruption, Tina Turner, and now GCS.

In saying 'It was then covered by the likes of Eruption, Tina Turner, and now GCS' in that order, you're implying that Larry et. al. are covering the song for the first time on the current tour. This is not accurate. Their version was the third version released. Following the original by ann peebles, it was covered by the british group 'Humble Pie' and then by - you guessed it - 'GCS' on their 1975 album 'Ain't No Bout a Doubt It'. Tina Turner's and Eruption's versions followed theirs, and Tina was inspired to cover it having heard Larry's version.

So we all learned something this week as it turns out. wink
