I was a joke. If I said on a winter's day "it is fricking cold here it is 50" I bet people in MPLS would chuckle.

Did you learn anything?

Yeah, didn't you read? I learned that GCS did the original "I Can't Stand the Rain". And I learned that I'm not really a fan of the other songs in GCS's catalogue. lol Oh, I also learned that Prince borrowed the march in playing drums (from his MTV Play in the Sunshine performance) from Larry as that's how GCS enters the venue. Totally worth the price of a free ticket! razz

What is your major malfunction?

I was there last night and the show without Prince was fantastic. I'm not a Larry Graham fan but I have to give it to him, he puts on a good show and he was slappin the shit outta that bass. I can see why Prince has been influenced by him where music is concerned. Me and my crew sat nearby where Prince was and it was cool catching glimpses of him moving around and groovin with the music. I saw him stand for LG towards the end of one of his songs. Then Prince got up and moved towards the stage and we knew what was coming next. I'd say 10 mins later, Prince popped up and played with Larry and the band and it was FIRE! I will say I agree with DP, I didn't really hear Prince on the mic but his presence was enough for me. He looked fantastic and he was moving and dancing pretty good too. It was a great night and seeing Prince made it even that much better. biggrin

hug hey purplecam thanks 4 the review and glad u had a wonderful time. I was very happy when I read your view and I think u r very special 2 be at the right place at the right time. Hugs and kisses 2u hug

Thank you so much Pennylover! hug You should have been there with us, you would have had a blast!

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I wonder if people forget that prior to Larry G ...Prince was running musically with George Clinton. However,George likes his spliff lol so this buddy-ship fizzled out . Hearing Larry at his show was far different than him popping up during a Prince concert.Lets hope P mixes up his own set-list in the future. Just like we never tire of P's music...He never tires of Larry/Sly's songs.

That jam with Larry at Paisley last fall was insane. Folks can diss Larry all they like, but he and Prince have mad synergy onstage. shrug

If I didn't learn anything else that night, I learned exactly what you did at PP last fall. They work really well together on stage. That can't be denied.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

What's yours? You asked me a question, I answered it honestly. Just because you may not like or agree with my answer doesn't mean it's wrong.

well, ten years ago this is what made me less of a believer in the magic that is prince.

he and larry began playing 'thank you for lettin me be myself' and 'everyday people' at EVERY. SINGLE. SHOW.

anyhoo, it was beyond sad to see someone like prince, who has a huge catalog of songs to choose to play from, but for whatever reason, chooses to use up two songs of his live sets for those two, old, stale, not-fresh, dead boring, outdated, 70s classics.

it was quite sad that someone as creative as prince would sink to the level of playing the same stuff over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over

(and, he has played those two songs in concert even more times than i have typed that).

I like larry graham and all. he is a real gent.

but it was like wtaching the death of cool .. ..

ah well. if prince is satisfied with the joy he finds in repetition, then so be it. towel and all smile

[Edited 6/17/10 10:22am]

Were to begin with this B.S. I have seen Prince in concert 10 times since the mid-90s and heard

Sly songs at two shows (not aftershows) So what are you talking about he has not done that many tours with Larry Graham or had Larry on a lot of his music over the last decade. In addtion, he might be putting in covers at his shows because he said over 10 years ago that he was cutting out the rauchier material out of his concerts. Something you negative naysayers seem to have forgotten.

laura i admire your defense of prince, and i want you to know i am a HUGE fan of his work.

i am not trying to tear him down. i am pointing out something which has been obvious and remarkable since around 1997, when larry joined prince.

if you check the concert threads, you will see that i do not lie.

if you keep track of set lists going forward, you will see that i do not lie.

the only unpleasant thing about this show: by handing over his guitar to the guitarplayer next to him, to get rid of it, prince degrades this musician to a roady. that's ugly.

I love the part on the video where Prince is done playing guitar and just sticks it out to the first person he sees, the guitar player in back of him, the guy on guitar looks at him like "whuaw?" stops playing and takes it from him and looks for a place to set it down.

Prince is so full of himself, lol

Cool performance, thanks for posting.

thus prince degrades that musician to a roady

The buttons look a little cheap.

BTW, this picture is from the backstage part of BB Kings. I can tell from the painted white concrete and black doors (can't tell exactly where backstage though). Notice the take out container of food on the red cart, too. lol

lol My thread gets littered with curse words and name calling but someone thinks we care if his suit buttons are cheap. When someone mentions another woman someone says it should be about the music. Go figure? I know a few people care about Prince and his women so if you were there, why not add something worthy to this thread and tell us if he was there with his Bolivian girlfriend?

I guaran-damn-tee you those buttons aren't cheap. What kind of buttons do you think you put on a white suit?

I think it's pretty obvious the photo was taken backstage.
