hopefully the sound is better than the video sounds, but man, Prince was moving well and he looks great. no moustache interestingly enough, but the suit fit him well, and he was funking out.

The buttons look a little cheap.

BTW, this picture is from the backstage part of BB Kings. I can tell from the painted white concrete and black doors (can't tell exactly where backstage though). Notice the take out container of food on the red cart, too. lol

I guaran-damn-tee you those buttons aren't cheap. What kind of buttons do you think you put on a white suit?

I think it's pretty obvious the photo was taken backstage.

How can you guarantee they aren't cheap? I would use something with more weight, like faux ivory or bone. Not something that looks like cheap plastic.

Excuse me for pointing out the obvious, I didn't realize everyone had been backstage at BB Kings or was a know-it-all like you. rolleyes

Were to begin with this B.S. I have seen Prince in concert 10 times since the mid-90s and heard

Sly songs at two shows (not aftershows) So what are you talking about he has not done that many tours with Larry Graham or had Larry on a lot of his music over the last decade. In addtion, he might be putting in covers at his shows because he said over 10 years ago that he was cutting out the rauchier material out of his concerts. Something you negative naysayers seem to have forgotten.

laura i admire your defense of prince, and i want you to know i am a HUGE fan of his work.

i am not trying to tear him down. i am pointing out something which has been obvious and remarkable since around 1997, when larry joined prince.

if you check the concert threads, you will see that i do not lie.

if you keep track of set lists going forward, you will see that i do not lie.

[Edited 6/19/10 3:53am]

I have been to ten shows in the D.C area. Larry was only at one of those concerts and I have only heard P do Sly songs at two concerts and he certainly did not do more than two Sly covers. I do not count aftershows as official concerts and for all the Larry hating on this board these two have only worked on one Larry Graham cd together in the last decade. Get it out of your mind that Larry Graham is using some sort of mind control on P. I think dude does just what he wants to do and some of you need to get a life and accept that dude is a JW or move on to another artist. Or just get over the fact that Prince does associate with other black people because I swear if he was hanging out with Mick Jagger or Eric Clapton most of you would stop bitching in a minute.

Yes, the towel was back -- it was black. Tina was grinning and pointing and shaking a tambourine, too. Thankfully it wasn't until close to the end.

(I have no idea what's going on with the quote boxes.)

well, ten years ago this is what made me less of a believer in the magic that is prince.

he and larry began playing 'thank you for lettin me be myself' and 'everyday people' at EVERY. SINGLE. SHOW.

anyhoo, it was beyond sad to see someone like prince, who has a huge catalog of songs to choose to play from, but for whatever reason, chooses to use up two songs of his live sets for those two, old, stale, not-fresh, dead boring, outdated, 70s classics.

it was quite sad that someone as creative as prince would sink to the level of playing the same stuff over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over

(and, he has played those two songs in concert even more times than i have typed that).

I like larry graham and all. he is a real gent.

but it was like wtaching the death of cool .. ..

ah well. if prince is satisfied with the joy he finds in repetition, then so be it. towel and all smile

[Edited 6/17/10 10:22am]

Did U know that everytime an artist performs or remakes another artist song, that the original artist wrote they get paid for it? Have U ever thought that maybe the reason Prince has been perfoming his musical idol Larry's songs so much is to pay him back. To put money in his bank. Think about it. If U don't like hearing it stop attending Prince shows. He won't miss U.........

I can guarantee they aren't cheap because I've worked for a billion-dollar clothing company for 15 years - and I have 40 years of sewing experience on my own, which includes choosing buttons. I have no trouble spotting a cheap button - and with all the custom clothing he's worn, I'd be willing to bet Prince can, too.

Bone buttons on white linen...good grief. And what the heck is "faux ivory?"

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

lol My thread gets littered with curse words and name calling but someone thinks we care if his suit buttons are cheap. When someone mentions another woman someone says it should be about the music. Go figure? I know a few people care about Prince and his women so if you were there, why not add something worthy to this thread and tell us if he was there with his Bolivian girlfriend?

Ya know?

Okay...so the suit is linen (or a linen blend). Three-button front with standard (ie, non-peak) lapels (which are a much better choice for him). Lovin' the pinstripes.

It was a LARRY GRAHAM CONCERT!

You expect Larry not to be there, when Prince was guesting on his show? Suprisingly enough, Larry does have fans of his own, and has recently toured Europe to packed houses, none of which came to see Prince.

And if you are going to write illogical shite, at least learn how to spell.

I have to agree that P looks good in the suit- fits him well. I also do not prefer the double breasted suit on him. Can't help but notice the man looked good- he also seemed to feel good/happy.

I wish people didn't have such problems w/ Larry. We all know Prince does what Prince wants, he likes the way Larry plays, he's obviously influenced by Larry, musically (as all musicians are by other musicians); and, it is clear he likes and respects Larry as a person. This speculation by some that Larry controls Prince is just ridiculous. We all emulate characteristics of people we respect, learn from and hope to be like. Everybody has a role model whom they aspire to be like, hopefully it is a good person who is at peace with themselves and others, who has an interesting thought provoking way of making others look at life and the things around them. I am sure this is what Prince gets from Larry. When did Prince ever follow or worry about doing what others want him to do- he's made an entire career out of doing just the opposite of what people want or expect, he seems to do what he pleases and dabbles in all genres of music as any curious musically inclined person would. Any musician would love the chance to play w/ one of their "idols." (yes, I know P wouldn't use that word, but I mean it as someone they admire, respect and learned from). I appears to have just turn out that Prince has found someone he respects, is thought provoking/insightful, probably funny whom P feels is worth spending time with. Seems crazy people speak of Larry like a monster- I'm willling to be P has better judgement than that.

also did you check your internet security options to make sure its not on set on "high" but rather medium.. if it's on high it prevents you from accessing certain sites..

I don't have a clue where Prince lives. I imagine he stays @ PP whenever he wants to. I'm guessing that he probably has a home or two in other places......hopefully in a secret location where he can escape woot!

Each time I've been at Paisley Park, the grounds have been immaculate, even when he's not there. He cares about it imo, and the flowers are a nice contrast to the big white building, and gives it a soft touch
