Prince is now getting awards for just still being around, not cause he's particularly good anymore. Fact.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Very Good! That's why they call it the "Lifetime Achievement" award, instead of the "Flavor Of The Month" award

I can go for the Roots. Questlove has played the drums before with Prince. But those others on the list, not too crazy about seeing perform. Except for Alicia Keys.
It would be nice if Prince and Alicia Keys sing "Question of U" and Alicia add part of her lyrics fro "Falling" into the song, just like how he did with during the Musicology tour, when Candy Dulfer sang some of the lyrics to "Falling" when Prince combined both "Question of U" and "Falling" together. It took 1.5 seconds for me to type that. So no, not really.
Wasn't being disrespectful but he's an old geezer now, it happens to them all. but take offence/be offended all you like. Don't give a fuck what you think anyhoo.

Getting an award from that shit hop infested show is no honor and if Prince had any damn sense, he'd give them the finger. Andy is a four letter word.

I'm not surprised seeing how the anniversary of MJ's death falls within that week, and they more than likely, probably felt it would have been disrespectful not to do a little something for him. Not to mention they probably got calls about that. I suppose they'll keep it short, but I can understand them acknowledging him 2 days after his death anniversary. They usually do a memoriam anyway for some artists who have passed. I would not be surprised if Usher was picked to sing some of MJ's songs, since MJ was his idol.

What for and what would that prove? Lawd Andy, we know you hate hip hop, but the Lifetime Achievement Award has always been part of that show. It's not like we know if the Grammy's will do a tribute to Prince anytime soon, so although I don't care for the BET awards, at least some of the young artists today, who would not get recognized by some of the other shows, will have an opportunity to be recognized, even if some folks, especially the older generation, don't like the current music most of them put out today. I would give the Grammy's, The American Music Awards, The Soul Train Music Awards, and The MTV Music Awards the finger also. As for these young "artists" these days, they are recognized on all those awards shows except the Country Music Awards. It ain't like the old days when the only black artists that were recognized on awards shows other than the R&B Awards were the ones that crossed over because all of them are crossover these days. White kids are their biggest purchasers and the ones that have kept this bullshit alive so long.
As for these young "artists" these days, they don't deserve to be recognized on any show because the last thing they are making is actual music. Until music comes back, they should just cancel all awards shows. Andy is a four letter word.

Good you took that the right way.
I love Prince in a lot of ways, still, despite the dissappointments of late. But really, that's lifetime achievements for you though. Nice for the hardcores, but ultimately meaningless in reality.
The same goes for 'Grammy Legend' awards, if you get my drift. [Edited 6/18/10 16:46pm]

They are not cancelling award shows. It's big money for the advertising companies and the stations. But yes, I understand what you mean, but right now since everything is "commercial" and the uniqueness is gone from music these days, with so many manufactured acts, I doubt we see music like it was back in the day. Prince comes from an era of "real music" and most of these young kids today, wouldn't recognize it, because everything is sampled. The real music is underground these days and you will mostly find them by word of mouth, on myspace, facebook, and other internet sites, self-promoting, Even when some are signed, the record companies don't seem to promote them like they used to. If they can't push out enough hit records, the record companies, move on to the next manufactured act. It's a boring cycle.

Yes, I will definitely be tuning in. Even though I fucking hate BET at this point, probably more than Aaron McGruder, I now have a reason to watch this piece of trash. My hero definitely deserves this honor. Hell, he deserves any honor he gets from the industry at this point. He's done so much for music in the last 30 years and people in the biz need to realize that. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

There you go talking that old BS. Alot of young kids today do recognize "real music," however real music is just as sampled as sample produced music.
Music today is more unique then it has ever been, thus tons and tons more generes and sounds that were not even in existence or even thought of in the 60's.
You complain about everything being commercial, yet complain about labels not promoting, no more manufactured act thne it was in the 70's 80's and 90's or whenever, you old people just have selective musical memories
It's a boring cycle to you, however it is fresh to millions of listeners out there.
The real phony, most contrived, self indulgent music can be found underground, just as much as it can be in the "mainstream"
These young producers etc, singers ets, kids etc they know real music, they know Prince, MJ, gaye, etc etc. They know more about real music then those who exp in real time.
And you guys are fans of a guy that has used drum machines, samples, and stock sounds in 90% of his best songs.

Hi Bellanoche, always good to see you around here and get your insight. I did hear a while back that Anthony was working on some music with Shelby J. and I see, according to Aristotle, that he is on her album. Would be nice to see him sing one of Prince's song at the tribute, if he becomes part of it.

the perfect scenerio....
the revolution get back 2 gether one night performing all the hits/flanked by the current band that would be the best tribute to prince(also would just blow the show out)imagine wendy.lisa.brownmark,dr fink, matt uniteing ith the current band.....there would not be a dry eye in the house that night cmon prince one night in tribute to the lifetime awards bring back the group that got you to where you are 2day

That would definitely be cool. Without the Revolution (Wendy, Lisa, Matt, Bobby & Sheila) i doubt we would be talking about Prince or a lifetime achievement award today. [Edited 6/19/10 18:34pm]

without Prince no one would be talking about Wendy and Lisathey arent getting any lifetime awards for theme songs
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That's a load of crap if I ever heard one.
I'm not saying they didn't contribute, but to say they're the reason for Prince's success is insane.
BTW, this isn't the 1st "Lifetime Achievement Award" he's gotten.
He got something like that from the American Music Awards in the '90's.
And his Induction in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
A Revolution Reunion would be cool, but it's hardly necessary. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Let's make it simple and put it this way, ...We skip the Revolution era and Prince goes from "For You" to "Diamonds & Pearls"- "Purple & Gold" ......Nuff said.
