Yes, his answers to almost everything was extremely aloof in this "interview". He loves to try to appear Mr. Mysterious and deep to everyone when he's about as deep as a bedpan. Just sounds like he regurgitates whatever's being read/taught to him in the Jehovah faith. Which, if it keeps his butt happy at night, then so be it. I'm all for someone being at peace, happy, etc... Just come a LOT better and CORRECT when you're giving an interview, which is all this really is (and a weak one at that). And for the record, Prince a LOT more to say in his music besides "have as much sex as possible"! You can't be a "real" Prince fan and think that's all he ever sang about. Sounds like an exaggeration to me, kiddo...

Sorry but about 85% of P's music is about sex !!! He has touched on other topics but sex is the main topic. In addtion, you are the one who thinks he is about as deep as a bedpan. Do you really think "Little Red Coverevtte" or "Lady Cab Driver" have deep lyrical meaning? Those songs and many others do not have deep lyrics and all this was going on long before JWs came along.

Some of you need to get off of this "religion" has ruined P. That dude was already speeding to hell long before the JWs came along and certainly was not conducting any deep meaningful interviews.

"That dude was already speeding to hell long before the JWs came along and certainly was not conducting any deep meaningful interviews."

eek Do you Really Mean That?

And that was, supposedly was is in the past. He has made some good changes, Now if he just get out of the "Cult" and get with Real Christains he could make it to Heaven. Seems like he's confused anyway, He said in Ebony that people call God different names.....God, Jesus, Yaweh(sp?), Jehovah, Om but he believe they are the same God?

Anybody that thinks God and Allah is the same person is show 'nough Confused. For if the books that represent them The Holy Bible by God and Koran by Allah are totally different, virtually opposites of each other, then how could they be the same God?!?

I know in the Koran it says anybody who is not a Muslim is your enemy (Christains). Also believe they are told to kill your enemies in the Koran. So how could they be the same God!

It wouldn't bother me that he was a Witness if he walked the walk and didn't just use it as a topic to bring up to avoid talking about things that he doesn't want to talk about.

Actually I do not see him lasting much longer for a few reasons:

1. His true nature will resist being supressed and he will rebel against the restrictions of organized religion.

2. Non-celebrity witnesses will start to feel that they can get away with the same lifestyle that he has and will cause the "Govering Body" to step in and either regulate or disfellow him.

3. Other celebrity witnesses (yes there are quite a few) will get tired of this "special treatment" and require the "Governing Body" to step in and do something.

I really feel his time is becoming very limited.

I cmpletely agree with all of this.

his religion is about as much to blame as larry graham, which is not at all. his psyche fractured and split off into more than just a few directions a very long time ago. he'll wear whatever face he likes precisely when he needs to. from his JW-face to the face he puts on around his 'friends'. the real prince is the guy who prays really damn hard right before his goes to sleep at night. no point gettin razzed up about his religion-face or his i-dont-mean-to-make-racist-comments-face. neither of them are real. imo.

Guys, I don't know what the beef is here, but reading the posts above the only people bringing up "is Prince black" is you. Can you not actually address what is being posted rather than being cliched?

The fact of the matter is, John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival, had the same complaint Prince had, way back in the 1980's. The complaint was, "The Record Company owns the rights to my music". Yeppers! They all signed contracts agreeing to the terms. In Prince's case, he was given the MOST $$ ever, for a recording contract. He wasn't treated differently, because of religion, nationality, nor race. John Fogerty is white. He didn't complain "someone white is ripping me off".

If Prince at least stated: record executives shouldn't take advantage of musicians, I'd feel better.

No. It was "white" ownership is keeping down blacks.

Berry Gordy? He withheld royalties to his musicians. It wasn't until he sold Mowtown (for around 60 mil$ I believe) to another organization, the artists started getting checks. He was sued by the majority of his clients, before it was over, who realized they should have been paid all along. Plus there were other unethical financial practices.

To be sure, promoting his next musical endeaver, in Ebony magazine, is sound advertising.

Alienating Caucasion fans, is poor judgement. And since he wrote the responses to the questions in advance, he had plenty of time to think about the answers.

Noooo, I don't want to hear the "why are you here", or "on this site"....blah blah blah "if you have ill feelings towards Prince".....etc etc.

Not to add to the pain, in P's gluteus maximus, some techie/nerd came up with the concept prince.org 1st! while P was asleep at the wheel. And it's an unofficial site. Too bad the guy's not of same tribe(google the term).

I know. I know. I know. It's a grim reminder, of how ya just gotta stay sharp!

[Edited 6/15/10 20:07pm]

Why would John Fogerty complain about someone white ripping him off when all of the major labels (even Motown because of Mob ties) were controlled by white people? You need to go back and do some research on the music industry before you even begin to comment on this topic. I never heard P openly blame white people for all his problems in the industry (some of which he caused) I think he was trying to tell black artist to control their intellectual property much like major companies retain control of their intellectual property. Too many artist black and white have been ripped off. In some cases there has been forgery or the record company just does not pay out the royalties that the artist contract stipulates they should be paid.

There is a lot more to corrupt record company practices then what you appear to know.

[Edited 6/16/10 13:50pm]

The entertainment industry is fucked up. It is a corrupt business full of money men who will screw you over. I know because I work in it. Here's the point: you could be Black, White, Yellow, Purple whatever. It doesn't matter you are likely to get fucked over by someone who is Black, White, Yellow or Purple. Race has nothing got to do with it. Black people fuck over young black artists and white artists. White people fuck over young white talent and Black talent.

Prince is just being a cliche. He had it all with Warners and he royally fucked it up.

But thats not the point, this is not about race. Quit with the motown/Berry Gordy comments, it is a MUCH bigger industry than that.

I totally agree w/ you that this need not be turned into a racial issue. I guess I try to look past this when it is done because it makes me cringe. For a world that is trying to eliminate racial prejudice I don't think comments like this need to be made. Sometimes I think he feels guilty for catering to the "white" listeners and feels like he owes his "black" community something. Maybe he does but I'm pretty sure this isn't the way to do it. Also, maybe he was trying to cater to the audience who he thought would be reading Ebony?? Not cool either imo. Cause like him, I'd rather be in a room full of truth then be surrounded by a bunch of yay sayers..

Personally I think we all need improvment in some aspects of our life and I'm no judge only God is but maybe I'll pray for a lil' enlightenment in this area. Maybe I don't want to see the "truth" because it may cause me to miss the next show and that is something I have looked forward to since I was 14............

the article was just ok, nothing surprising or dissapointing given Prince's past. I thought the 2/4/u stuff was ridiculous for a 52 year old man, and wondered if ebony did that by request or what. Most pop stars live in a state of suspended adolescence, I don't know why people expect so much out of Prince. He's nothing more than a very talented musician, if I want brilliant non-musical ideas I look elsewhere than musicians. The whole race slant was fine with me, I'm american indian, been reading ebony my whole life, partially because of a black stepfather and partially because most of my heroes are black. Ebony does the right, if not journalistic, thing. Ebony, like all black folks, knows that white people will do all the tearing down, labelling, critiquing necessary. Also, black folks typically trust black folks and open up more to ebony than they do to other magazines. Michael Jackson, even at his peak granted full interviews to ebony and spoke more openly than he did with any other mag.

It's a strange possition for the GB tio be in . He is pretty low on the Witness higher archy but he is very prominent and seems to pick discussing his faith as his favorite subject. I honestly thought he had stopped going to any of the Halls because I couldn't fathom that the cover of Planet Earth and much of his past lyrics were not addressed. But I was very very wrong. He not only is on good terms but he also takes the stage and gives tallks eek . I tell you I was thinking that I was going to become a Baptized Witness by summer 2009. But having been a Catholic I am quite familiar with the rules being different depending on the members finances, ability to make out large checks and celebrity. I did not want that again for myself. I still occasionally go to Kingdom Hall, but since Lotusflow3r came out I don't see myself becoming Baptized.

Maybe you have a reading comprehension problem. I stated that black and white artist have been ripped off and I don't remember P putting all of the blame on white people. I will never lay off Motown because my comments are true. If you do your research plenty of proof about the mob and the music industry. If you are in the industry you should at least know the history of it.

You may not like the manner in which Prince went about making his statements about the industry but I hope you are not going to pretend that some of what he had to say was not valid regardless of his own behavior with WB which was already falling off when P started to Kirk out with them. I am sure if he did not leave WB that would have dropped him as all labels dump artist when the reach a certain age. He did not want to be on the label and they wanted him gone sounds like everybody got what they wanted.

Warners did not want Prince gone. They had just signed him to a 100 million dollar contract not long before Prince wanted out. They would not have dumped Prince until after he fulfilled his contract no matter what age he was. Prince just got a good lawyer & was able to get out early....I honestly believe if Prince would have stayed there he would have been worse off today. Look at how the music industry is today. It has gone way down than it was in the 90's. Prince would have been broke...

As far as Prince is concerned, I think people need to finally accept the new Prince. He will likely get stronger and more determined in his faith. And that is a GOOD THING. There is more to life than what is on this earth. People need to recognize that we at some point must prepare for as Prince calls it "The Afterworld". He is doing just that, the best way that he knows how. Vanity is doing the same thing - only with a different denomination, and Sheila E is also born again. Folks can't dance and shake their booty forever...all of this will eventually come to an end. So I do support Prince in his efforts to adhere to his Faith, and his understanding that he is now a vessel that can be used by God. Before he really wasn't. God gave him his talent and he used it to talk about women masturbating to magazines, and all sorts of sexually heightened themes and songs, so it's past time for him to give his talent back to God. i actually appreciate what he's Trying to do. Nobody is perfect.

This is true!!!!

Sweetheart, the only person with a comprehension reading problem here is you. You have no idea what you are ranting about, yes its always a rant with you. And your use of the english language gives me a headache. When you actually do have something to say, its so wrapped up in insults and hyperbole that it becomes meaningless.

Take a chill pill, read some books (the type without pictures in) and come back when you have a actual point to make.

All you have done above is agressively (as usual), agreed, then disagreed and then waffled on without making any point at all.

Ta, ta now.

shhh

I cmpletely agree with all of this.

I was raised a witness.....studied half of my life, before deciding it wasn't the path for me. Mom is still one.

I do not know what you are talking about with the finances, etc....donations are made in private and no one knows what you make or what you have...there is not tithing.

I find it funny that he is a JW considering the pummeling I received when I was a young Prince fan and the inappropriateness of his music etc.

Funny how life changes through time.

I totally disagree with you both. I highly doubt Prince is in love with her. He won't marry her.

Bria might have dodged a bullet there. Prince is a musical genius and an amazing poet, but he is a "writer not a lover".

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

They should have asked some Hardcore questions. Like why was your religion wrong about 1914? Why do most Christains call your religion a Cult? Why don't you worship with other Christains? Why you all don't believe in blood transfusions or celebrate Birthdays? Why do you all not believe in the Trinity? Is Christ the Archangel Michael?

That would be a bit of overkill, because you can pretty much gather that info from the Jehovah's Witness Website.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

From the outside looking in (as I do not know the man personally) I think he is too much of a control freak to truly love another person the way love is meant to be shared. It means giving yourself completely to another person. Surrendering to them and trusting them completely to share all of you with them.

While through his music it seems he wants it (he makes some great love songs and "sex" songs) I don't think he can ever relinquish that amount of control.

Hell, it seems he cannot relinquish that type of control to God (meaning he doesn't surrender himself completely to his faith).

Wow, I wonder if it would be such hoopla about Prince if he just flat out and said that he was a Satanist. I think many of yall should just sit with that thought for a few minutes. Who among you would purge your Prince collections? Why is his being a Jehovah's Witness a big deal? The man has always built his life around some form of controversy, so this should come to no surpise. Just be glad it's God and not the devil that he's trying to worship.

The man is trying to build a relationship with God the best way he see's fit. It's the stupid bumbling fans and interviewers who do not call him to the carpet regarding his work out of fear that he'll never give them another interview again. Heck, I remember when Prince wanted to be on the cover of Vibe and they said a big FAT NO! Folks are afraid of saying NO to the man.

And who among us is not a hypocrite? Who????????? We all strive to be better people whether we believe in God or not and we ALWAYS FALL SHORT...ALWAYS.

So cut the Purple one some slack!

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?
