As far as Prince is concerned, I think people need to finally accept the new Prince. He will likely get stronger and more determined in his faith. And that is a GOOD THING. There is more to life than what is on this earth. People need to recognize that we at some point must prepare for as Prince calls it "The Afterworld". He is doing just that, the best way that he knows how. Vanity is doing the same thing - only with a different denomination, and Sheila E is also born again. Folks can't dance and shake their booty forever...all of this will eventually come to an end. So I do support Prince in his efforts to adhere to his Faith, and his understanding that he is now a vessel that can be used by God. Before he really wasn't. God gave him his talent and he used it to talk about women masturbating to magazines, and all sorts of sexually heightened themes and songs, so it's past time for him to give his talent back to God. i actually appreciate what he's Trying to do. Nobody is perfect.

They should have asked some Hardcore questions. Like why was your religion wrong about 1914? Why do most Christains call your religion a Cult? Why don't you worship with other Christains? Why you all don't believe in blood transfusions or celebrate Birthdays? Why do you all not believe in the Trinity? Is Christ the Archangel Michael?

It seems like noone has the guts to treat him normal.

This way he can continue with acting up with somebody.

Always afraid to ask him something important, why they are all so intimidated?

Dancing helps relieve the pain. Soothes your mind, makes you happy again!!!

I appologize for not reading all 24 pages or so before typing this. I just got my copy of Ebony and this is the impression I have.

Clearly Prince got himself an interviewer that was not familiar with the Jehovah Witness beliefs so she would not have any questions about why his lifestyle was so different from other Witnesses. She pointed out that meeting him was a bit like solving the riddle of the sphynx which is so unlike Jesus Christ in his day who made himself very approachable. She said that they talked for hours about God but seems to reveal nothing of interest from these conversations.

To me Witnessing for Jehovah is not simply about logging in hours going door to door. It the way one acts, the lifestyle one chooses and it is something that we are not ever logged off from doing. If you talk on and on about the Bible but then make songs like Lolita, Dance4me, Here I Come, Elixer, Mr Goodnight etc etc do your Jah loving words match up with your hedonistic ways??? Does he honestly think that our Heavenly Father is not aware of the hypocrasy? It is just like those priests who hear confession of the flock and meanwhile do things far worse. Am I judging? I feel like its my duty to say I think the guy is an imposter.

The best thing about the Ebony magazine was that I got to read an interview that was done with the truly legendary B.B. King. B.B. King is also a phenominal guitar player and yet he doesn't have a greater than thou presence and seems to be willing to sit down for a Q and A without seeing the questions first. He is seems warm and approachable far more Jesus like than Sphynx like IMO.

Prince isn't like all the other Jehovah Witnesses; he is a special case. If he wasn't as brilliant as he is I would leave his music alone. But alas he is as talented as he is arogant, but those two things don't need to go together as B. B. King proves.

It wouldn't bother me that he was a Witness if he walked the walk and didn't just use it as a topic to bring up to avoid talking about things that he doesn't want to talk about.

Actually I do not see him lasting much longer for a few reasons:

1. His true nature will resist being supressed and he will rebel against the restrictions of organized religion.

2. Non-celebrity witnesses will start to feel that they can get away with the same lifestyle that he has and will cause the "Govering Body" to step in and either regulate or disfellow him.

3. Other celebrity witnesses (yes there are quite a few) will get tired of this "special treatment" and require the "Governing Body" to step in and do something.

I really feel his time is becoming very limited.

I didn't waste $ purchasing a magazine, I wouldn't normally purchase. I'm sure Ebony has one of it's best sales ever, for the month, with Prince on the cover.

Unfortunately, the less I know about the guy, the better off I am.

He's intolerant of other religions. To paraphrase: the world will be a different place when we know God in the same way. He needs to explain how this can come about. What does he suggest? He poses a problem, with no solution. And NO, we're not all going to convert to JW.

He's still living in the 80's, regarding his old record company. Get over it! Christ, it's going on 30 years. Continue to blame "white ownership of black music".

To paraphrase other statements,

We need to approach local music distribution, (thus, the MPLS retreat) globalization is coming fast, and the gatekeepers need to free art and stop thinking of black culture, in terms of being monochromatic........

Prince comes off as racist, in this article. He doesn't like Caucasions.

I'm happy to have spent the dinero on the mag, finding out how he really thinks.

And nope! Not spending a nickle on any future music.

Good maybe someone can convince U not to come here anymore to. U sound more racist then U think Prince is. I'm sure U just one of the many ones on here that hate that Prince did a cover shoot & interview for EBONY MAGAZINE. That is all your racist hater statement implied to me.

Yes Prince is black to and has a right to defend anything his race goes through.YOU HATER!

Most definitely black!....remember the the lyrics "why u wanna treat a nigga so bad".....only a Black man can say that....and that's for damn sho.

The lyrics of Lolita were pretty sexual, I don't have them at hand, something about licking you once and then licking you again. It's pretty graphic talk coming from a member of a religion that OFTEN talks in meetings about not leading others in the congregation into temptation with our own entertainment choices. Dance4me, again is seduction and listen hard for any mention of the word LOVE, I haven't heard it. There is also no talk about this girls study of scripture, or nearness to Jah which according to witnesses is far more essential then dance skills. She could be a girlfriend, doubtful she is a wife because the "leave your wrap on the chair, anybody finds it I don't care" would not make sense. Here I Come is a straight up masturbation song. Masturbation is not a sin to the witnesses but it certainly is not something that you talk about with others anf boast about. Elixer is another of Prince's oral sex songs. Oral sex isn't wrong with your wife, but even if the duet partner were infact his wife, still the subject is one that is not suitable for a song to entertain people by JW standards. Mr Goodnight, again where is the one plus one plus one is 3? Mr Goodnight never mentions any love shared or any great virtue of either he or the woman. She has beauty and he has LOADS of money to lure her with. Choosing a partner based on how much money they have or a man BRAGGING about his wealth is so NOT O.K. in the Witness beliefs it is not funny.

Witnesses frown on their members seeking to further their education to increase their income. you will meet alot of tradesmen among the witnesses. They seldom work overtime because work should never take them away from their commitment to share the Bible door to door. They only work to meet their basic needs. His whole talk of a busy schedule is even an eyebrowraiser. He has plenty of money he does not need more to meet his basic needs and therefore has no reason to not be a Pioneer and be putting in 75 or so hours a month. These people take what they call field service extremely seriously.

Another thing that I have noticed; In interviews Prince can't help himself from talking passionately about God and religion. it is as if he can't take his mind off of the subject for very long. Well that is sort of funny since there is only two slight mentions of God in all 3 or the Lotusflow3r CD's. He says Hallelujah (meaning praise Jah) in the song Dance4me which I don't think qualifies it as a spiritual song. most deffinately a sex song, more so. The in Old School Company he does say "First comes Jah, then comes marriage, then comes shorty with a baby carriage" again I don't see this as a spiritual song.

So in interviews it's all about Jah, but Jah didn't get any songs did he??? Immersion could have been about any dip in water as far as I am concerned. HOWEVER sex got quite a few shout outs on that 3 CD set, especially the first CD. Hmmmm but he doesn't want to talk about his personal life with interviewers, it's as if they should ask,

My request, please bring back the beautiful God seeking songs of your youth Prince. Songs like the ladder, God, The Cross etc. Lets cut it with the Chakra transfers and Isis tears and give Jah some great and loving songs with some phenominal vocals and guitar playing. No lectures, no pointing fingers, just a bunch of "I love God so much " ditties, please, yours truly Deadflow3r.

doh! whew, my fingers are sore. I deffinately got on a roll here.

The fact of the matter is, John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival, had the same complaint Prince had, way back in the 1980's. The complaint was, "The Record Company owns the rights to my music". Yeppers! They all signed contracts agreeing to the terms. In Prince's case, he was given the MOST $$ ever, for a recording contract. He wasn't treated differently, because of religion, nationality, nor race. John Fogerty is white. He didn't complain "someone white is ripping me off".

If Prince at least stated: record executives shouldn't take advantage of musicians, I'd feel better.

No. It was "white" ownership is keeping down blacks.

Berry Gordy? He withheld royalties to his musicians. It wasn't until he sold Mowtown (for around 60 mil$ I believe) to another organization, the artists started getting checks. He was sued by the majority of his clients, before it was over, who realized they should have been paid all along. Plus there were other unethical financial practices.

To be sure, promoting his next musical endeaver, in Ebony magazine, is sound advertising.

Alienating Caucasion fans, is poor judgement. And since he wrote the responses to the questions in advance, he had plenty of time to think about the answers.

Noooo, I don't want to hear the "why are you here", or "on this site"....blah blah blah "if you have ill feelings towards Prince".....etc etc.

Not to add to the pain, in P's gluteus maximus, some techie/nerd came up with the concept prince.org 1st! while P was asleep at the wheel. And it's an unofficial site. Too bad the guy's not of same tribe(google the term).

I know. I know. I know. It's a grim reminder, of how ya just gotta stay sharp!

Wow! You really Broke It Down! eek Especially on Here I Come and Elixer; Elixer sounds like "He Licks Her" on listening; I guess it fits since thats what its about anyway, kinda like the sly Prince. razz

Ole Mysterious Prince! lol

Because God has too judge when Prince writes about races lyrics and go to church to worship.

This religious thread ranges from juvenile to just plain stupid.

He's a "SPECIAL CASE" Alright! At this point seems like he's going to be with the JW's until the End! eek nuts sad

It wouldn't bother me that he was a Witness if he walked the walk and didn't just use it as a topic to bring up to avoid talking about things that he doesn't want to talk about.

I understand what you are saying but dude has been doing this along his career before he was a JW I assumed he was a Christian who would talk about God in one song and sex in the next tune. He has not really changed he just joined an organized religion which appears to have just may people notice the hypocrisy. Why did anyone not notice it before?

Anyway I think he tried to use the interview to do a little witnessing since I doubt he goes out door to door that much. We should also not assume that we know what kind of lifestyle dude is living maybe he is trying to be a real Christian and those songs now are just songs and not reflecting his real life. I hope so because you cannot hide your behavior from GOD.

Why would John Fogerty complain about someone white ripping him off when all of the major labels (even Motown because of Mob ties) were controlled by white people? You need to go back and do some research on the music industry before you even begin to comment on this topic. I never heard P openly blame white people for all his problems in the industry (some of which he caused) I think he was trying to tell black artist to control their intellectual property much like major companies retain control of their intellectual property. Too many artist black and white have been ripped off. In some cases there has been forgery or the record company just does not pay out the royalties that the artist contract stipulates they should be paid.

There is a lot more to corrupt record company practices then what you appear to know.

Having the Ebony staff and friends over for a meal is not being aloof. When he had big celebrity parties in L.A. you had complaining from fans and when he has his friends and magazine people over his being aloof. Make up your minds already aloof or does he have his own circle of friends that he likes to chill with like most normal people. or maybe it is because he has decided to mingle with other black people perhaps that is what is upsetting some fans because no one seemed to complaining when he was hanging with W&L.

I guess you think it was cool back in the day when P never did interviews with anyone and certainly would not have had dinner with any reporter. Was rude and obnoxious to fans and really had nothing to say in his music except (have as much sex as possible). After reading the article which I will admit was a puff piece I came away from it thinking that P has found some measure of peace and anyone that finds away of being happy with hurting others is in a good place.

It is unfortunate that some fans want P to be miserable so he can make better music. sad

Yes, his answers to almost everything was extremely aloof in this "interview". He loves to try to appear Mr. Mysterious and deep to everyone when he's about as deep as a bedpan. Just sounds like he regurgitates whatever's being read/taught to him in the Jehovah faith. Which, if it keeps his butt happy at night, then so be it. I'm all for someone being at peace, happy, etc... Just come a LOT better and CORRECT when you're giving an interview, which is all this really is (and a weak one at that). And for the record, Prince a LOT more to say in his music besides "have as much sex as possible"! You can't be a "real" Prince fan and think that's all he ever sang about. Sounds like an exaggeration to me, kiddo...

Sorry but about 85% of P's music is about sex !!! He has touched on other topics but sex is the main topic. In addtion, you are the one who thinks he is about as deep as a bedpan. Do you really think "Little Red Coverevtte" or "Lady Cab Driver" have deep lyrical meaning? Those songs and many others do not have deep lyrics and all this was going on long before JWs came along.

Some of you need to get off of this "religion" has ruined P. That dude was already speeding to hell long before the JWs came along and certainly was not conducting any deep meaningful interviews.

85% of Princes Music IS NOT about sex.

Go and listen properly to his back catalogue before making statements like that.
