I don't mean any harm, but what would draw anybody to Prince under 30? You guys were not old enough to remember when the world had "SUPERSTARS" like Prince and Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen (I think I spelled my mans last name wrong), hell even Madonna. Any of us who were around during those days witness greatness as it was happening...you guys just read about. Again, I am not trying to be biased, I just want to understand what would draw the "new school" to Prince in today's world and music scene?

Because he is still head and shoulders above most - its simple!

30 years ago was 1980. You're trying to tell me I didn't live through Prince, Madonna, and MJ's greatness?

Here is what you don't understand. Through the miracle or recorded music and video/dvd....new fans can always live through Madonna, Prince, MJ's greatness. Hell, because of technology The Beatles have been gaining more fans since they've broken up than they acquired in the relatively short time they were together.

I'm 22years old, I joined this site many moons ago(6 years 6 months 13 days) being extremely young at the time. I started my collection at the age of 15-16, since then I would say I've spent around five thousand English pound on him since then and saw him at the O2 and Indigo 11 times...I would of considered myself hardcore from then till about 2years ago, now I'm traveling the world, I don't have much time for Purple and gold biggrin

I consider myself a "hardcore fan," but in a respectable sort of way, and i'm only 16.

It would be interesting to know what album(s) hooked you. As I am in my mid 30s (i.e. "old"), I "grew up" with him and I have no perspective on how a new fan gets drawn in. I mean, I bought 1999 not knowing there was a Purple Rain or SOTT still to come... and you all have the man's 30 year catalog at your fingertips...
[Edited 2/9/10 19:41pm]

for me it was emancipation because my mom played his version of la la la means I love you every night before I went to bed and I was just 3 at the time. Once I was 5 or 6, I was in a record store, and, not knowing what prince actually looked like, I picked out rave un2 the joy fantastic just because I was curious as to who it was and I've loved him ever since. I own or have listened to all but 2 or 3 of his albums, and I own 3 movies and a few concert DVDs as well as 2 shirts (would be 3, but I haven't received my lotusflow3r shirt yet).

Oh, and I forgot to add that I know him personally and yadda yadda, like I haven't told the story enough times. He said that since I'm a female sax player, "if [I was] any good, [he'd] hire [me]."

There are a lot of exeptions on this board but so many folks under 30 have been musically deprived and subjected to much garbage'

They had the misfortune of coming of age during the video era where it's not the music but how you came off and looked on videos that was the most important.
I'm sure P realizes this and sheds no tears for lack of an under 30 fan base.

Good to see his music still draws in young people too.

I was sold at the age of 12. LoveSexy Live did the trick.

Thanks to a dear friend of mine, who is much, much more hardcore than I've ever been, I watched that concert for the 1st time in ages again, a short while ago.

That was then, this is now, but I still love it biggrin

I was just curious because you do not hear of many young people claiming that they are bona fide purple heads!I'm 20 years old and I absolutely adore Prince's music . I was listening to my mp3 player today and actually skipped through alot of the other songs I have on it to listen to His Purple Badness. So my question to my fellow orgers is do you have any younger brothers/sisters, teenage sons/daughters,or any young person you know who thinks Prince's music is the Shiznit? smile

I'm 24...he's fantastic, truly one of a kind and not to be missed. I'm sure there are many more of us somewhere out there....this is wonderful!!
