I'm 24. Been a fan since I was 10. I remember listening to P Control and pressing the pause button whenever I could hear my mother coming upstairs....

It would be interesting to know what album(s) hooked you. As I am in my mid 30s (i.e. "old"), I "grew up" with him and I have no perspective on how a new fan gets drawn in. I mean, I bought 1999 not knowing there was a Purple Rain or SOTT still to come... and you all have the man's 30 year catalog at your fingertips...

what? how does that workout mid 30's and you don't know about Purple Rain...where do you live...earth lol

It was his performance of "Fury" on SNL that hooked me and then the 3121 album, although the first Prince item I ever bought was "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold" single. lol

Class...pure ...class... Fury on SNL was great ... i knew that must have gained prince a few more fans ... just totally what he's about ! lol

I think Prince has a lot of hardcore fans under 30, especially on here.
The reason they don't stand out as much is that almost every time they post on here there's an over 30 hardcore fan who bites their head off for their lack of knowledge on all things Prince.
Jarvius anybody?
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

19 and Canadian, that's gotta count for something. The hook was Purple Rain and...wait for it...Planet Earth (the first album I actually bought, when it was new). Controversy also hooked me at first listen (Album #3).

I'm 22, 23 in April and I've been listening to Prince since I was in my mothers womb. I also love vinyls. I'm lucky that my mom is/was (not sure anymore) a huge Prince fan so shes taken me to see him and I've gone on my own to see him also. Prince is the biz!!!!

Any of us who were around during those days witness greatness as it was happening...you guys just read about

Fantastic for you, but what makes music great is not that it was witnessed by X, it's the music itself. Prince's great music has been recorded for posterity and it continues today.

It's so cool to read about younger folks expressing the very same thing I felt when I first discovered Prince. You just don't care about what anyone else thinks, you know that what you're listening to is affecting you and you love it!

Nice thread.
