So which configurations would you most like to see released?

My votes go to Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic (any of the 1988/1989 ones), Come (May 1993), Heart (1994) and Chaos And Disorder (late 1994). biggrin

Thanks SciFi! Very nice. Copied, pasted and saved. biggrin As always, great information.

I really wish that Xenophobia was released with the title cut. It's my favorite track from those sessions (though, I haven't heard the studio version).

My Top 3, in order:

1. Prince & The Revolution: Roadhouse Garden (winter 1998/1999)
I would be SO down with another Revolution album! drool

2. prince: The Dawn (latter part of 1993)
A 3-disc set of some of his BEST work, sequenced perfectly and with cool segues??? omfg

3. Prince: Celebration (autumn/winter 1999)
I am extremely curious to hear some of the re-recorded masters and how alike/different they are in comparison to the originals. hmmm

I don't think either of those "Emancipation" -configurations have anything to do with what Prince had intended to release. They're just outtakes from the same sessions.

I think that - considering the 40 minute length like Come, Chaos And Disorder and The Vault... Old Friends 4 Sale, not to mention the lackluster and instantly forgettable content - those Emancipation configurations are from a time when he considered the album to be his next Warner Bros. release. biggrin

Very unlikely.

For starters, it would have been definitely odd had he even been considering including "Slave 2 The System" and "Slave" on the very same disc back to back. Notice how the released version of "Slave" ended up having the tribal / militant -percussion part that was originally used on "Slave 2 The System", so either one of the tracks would seem to be therefore built on the same tempo / midi sequence basis as the other one. Second of all, it is not reasonable to even assume that those tracks that didn't make the final configuration would have been forming most of the content of such an "unreleased record". There's no reason to assume either that he was going to be using a track called "Emancipation" on a potential WB -throwaway collection comparable to "Chaos & Disorder". It was reserved for the first record that he'd release once he would be freed from his contractual obligations for WB. Besides, he seemed to have been intending to make "Emancipation" a multi-disc magnum opus all along.

Also the tracks that are mentioned on those lists and that can be also found on the actual "Emancipation" album are clearly alternate versions, or rather, the songs in their early earlier stages without being mixed or mastered properly. They're just the tracks that were circulating as bootlegs during that time ("Goodbye" was later included on "Crystal Ball", but it was circulating with the rest of the bunch around that too) - I should know because I had them on a tape around that time, so they're only outtakes / demo versions as far as we know. During the recording of "Emancipation" he disbanded the old NPG and hired the new line-up, so it would be very likely that any earlier configuration would have included some of the tracks recorded with the old NPG. Yet those "1995" tracks already represent something of a transition in his production ideology that would characterize the vast bulk of the tracks from the album that were recorded mainly just by himself (with the addition of Kirky J.)

Granted, I also have no idea why "New World" should be included there for any other reason than a potential record called "New World" having been mentioned by Prince on some occasion.

I don't see why prince wouldn't include two songs about being a slave on a record intended for Warner Bros. It makes sense. biggrin

At the time, prince belived in the alternative, and that if he sang about being free, he would be free. The power of the spoken word creating reality/if you belived that you were free you were free. So having Emancipation on a Warner Bros. release makes sense. biggrin

Prince has released demo-recordings before. What happens if he has too much time to play around with the music before it's released isn't always pretty, to wit Old Friends 4 Sale, Endorphinmachine and Zannalee. biggrin

I don't see why he couldn't have made a solo-project in the first half of 1995. Having bands hadn't prevented him from doing solo-projects in the past. biggrin

Some people think that New World is actually identical with those Emancipation configurations - that he just changed the name. I suppose that's possible. biggrin

You present some compelling arguments, but as you can see, I still think those Track lists are for real. One of them is even from the usually reliable Uptown people's Days Of Wild. biggrin

Why did he not release these configurations to hardcore fans, there would be some more revenue there. Shock horror!! He could have done this through the Lotusflow3r site.
