Interesting the amount of plagiary-ish claims that get levelled at Prince in the interactive age. There were ones for Purple Rain and Do Me Baby amongst others if I recall.

Check out the youtube clip on where R. Kelly got You Are Not Alone for MJ.

Wouldn't it be funny if it turned out that Prince has never created a song "out of nothing" but always used friends' and colleagues' pieces to make his own creation out of them?

Ok, Prince's original version of Kiss was a slow ballad and Mazarati were the ones who sped it up. If anyone stole this sound, it was Mazarati

From Mazarati Wiki:
They were originally given the song "Kiss" by Prince in demo form. They transformed the brief bluesy track into a unique funk number. After hearing their work on the demo, Prince took the song back, added a guitar break and his trademark falsetto vocals and released the song on his Parade (1986),

Romeoblu

But Prince's Version of Kiss is far superior to Mazarati's version.

Its not about Mazerati stealing the sound, Prince's original lyrics and structure borrow heavily from this song. Takes the whole theme really.

Did we ever get to hear the original song in the Most Beautiful Girl In The World copyright claim by the way?

Everyone draws inspiration from certain parts in their past experience. The world would be poorer without it. This could be one example where Prince got inspiration. In the end, Kiss is a gazillion times better.

Helene Smith: You Got To Be A Man
Appears on the album Miami Sound - Rare Funk & Soul From Miami, Florida 1967-1974. Miami's First Lady of Soul.
This is a different version though.

true true

But apart from the "eddie-hazel-spirituality-helene-smith-affair": A long time ago someone claimed on here that "Question Of U" would be directly lifted from a 50's tune.... And this other song has indeed some similiarities with SHOE...
So i dont know... hrmph

Once again the ignorance concerning black music is coming out loud and clear on Prince. Org.
I do not know who the artist is on this cut but they are ripping off James Brown right down to the vocal and horns.
I kind of thought everyone with some lick of sense new that Kiss was a JB throw back but I guess some of you are not the smart. In addition, he came in and took over the song from Mazerati just like you all claim that he stole “Do Me Baby from Eddie Hazel when Andre Cymone claims that Prince stole the song from him.

I am not a lawyer but I believe you can’t be charged with plagiarism unless a certain number of bars or chords are used perhaps someone with a legal background can weigh in on this.

My recommendation when accusing other people of being stupid: try and use coherent sentences.

Otherwise, you might appear "not the smart" yourself.

thumbs up! Making snarky, rude remarks because people aren't as musically knowledgeable as you is completely unnecessary. What does intelligence have to do with it?
