I find it interesting that I get kicked off the org a lot because of things I say but yet, people like laurarichardson are left alone. And I have seen her do the same thing in other threads.

Was not my intention to cause anger when posting this clip. It was just something I found. I am also aware that there would be no Prince without JB, etc.

I am also aware that Prince knows a lot about music including Fishbone (who he sampled on Billy Jack Bitch) and Jimmy Eat World, etc.

Pepper7 I know how you feel. It seems nowadays there is either nothing left to discuss about Prince or that each time you try - you get attacked by a purple-kool-aid-drinker.

I know - her attitude is really uncalled for and ruins it for everyone else.

There's a lot of stuff I don't know.

Shit, I'm too scared to say anything now incase she has a go at me too.

I thought this was supposed to be a discussion forum, not a I-know-more-than-you-do forum..

sad

Yeah, that's one of the setbacks of the Org--no 'ignore' feature. Ol' girl woulda been on ignore a looonnng time ago lol

Its weird we haven't tracked down the original song in the TMBGITW case?

We have, it's "Takin’ Me to Paradise" by Bruno Bergonzi and Michele Vicino.
U can listen to the "original" song here -> http://obergh.net/songoffire/?p=623

What do y'all think? biggrin

I think it's like the writer of the article says... I mean, come on, that's nothing I'd sue anyone for.

I don't think it was plagiarized. Slight similarity but nothing to sue over. He did it because he could. I don't know, if I was an unknown Italian disco artist who has long been past my prime (washed up) and wasn't a Prince fan, I may have done the same. shrug

"I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight" by Cutting Crew sounds more like a rip of that song..

Prince has been quoted as claiming his Italian heritage..

Why don't they give him a break?

Oh man.

Well, yeah. I don't think you can deny the similarites , but basically it's just that "you don't have to be..." -opening line and the blues-y chord progression that got transferred to "Kiss". Well, okay... the horns sort of ended up being there too, and even in a more pronounced manner on some of the live renditions.

Not that it makes too much of an impact on my ability to appreciate a musical piece. In fact, this would be an examplary case of exhibiting a healthy dose of creativity when ripping off someone else. wink

Oh, go fuck off. Everybody was talking about how the song is similar, and you started with your bullshit about how everybody is fucking stupid and idiotic about R&B music. You were the one who came into the thread with a giant chip on your shoulder. I pointed out that if you want to call other people stupid, perhaps you should learn to write in a coherent way, something that you are obviously incapable of doing based on your subsequent posts.

And reading isn't your strong point, either.

Whatever, you're the all-knowing R&B guru and everybody else is clueless, fine. Pout as long as you want, i'm not arguing with you any longer. To steal a line from Barney Frank, it's like arguing w/ a kitchen table.

-----

Dude you have been nothing but a total fucking asshole from the minute you jumped on this topic.

I think many people on this board are lacking in their knowledge of RnB music and black culture in general.

I also took the time to explain exactly why I think that.

I do not really give a fuck if you agree or you do not.

I also do not give a fuck if you have a problem with grammar or typos as I did not know when you went to a message board you were taking an English exam.

Your an idiot who can't accept others people's opinions or handle anyone disagreeing with you. Get the fuck over yourself.

I never directly called anyone stupid so apparently your reading level is putting fucking low. I simply think a lot of people ought to use the internet to research things a little better and maybe take sometime out to know a little bit more about other cultures. I am sorry but you are not showing any intelligence when you do not make the fucking effort but I guess it is hard to do this with one's head stuck up their asshole, which you could teach a whole class on.

If you not going to come back to this topic wonderful. You are doing everyone a Hugh fucking favor
[Edited 8/27/09 8:44am]

Okay, I know this is not an English exam, but it's "YOU'RE AN IDIOT" not "YOUR AN IDIOT". If you're going to write that someone's an idiot at least do it without looking like an idiot yourself. And that is NOT a typo! rolleyes

And I won't even point out that you misspelled "huge" as "Hugh" on your last sentence. Oops, I just did. Did you mean Hugh Hefner? playboy
hah! You even capitalized it!

The case is in court still and it doesnt mean that he plagerized anyone.
He hasnt been convicted of any wrong doing.

get your facts str8!!
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

eek No doubt, P must have been inspired by this song when he wrote Kiss.

Not really. Prince's original version of "Kiss" was nothing like the version on Parade. It was David Z. who took that demo and reworked the shit out of it, leading Prince to take the song back for himself.

Well Prince has always been accused of this. I've met so many musos that despise Prince coz they see him as a rip off merchant. However I feel they miss the point-prince takes others songs and almost uses them as an instrument as part of a bigger piece (I feel). This song however is depressingly similar. What I think prince has added to this is a cheeky sense of fun
