I totally agree with you tomato. The man still has it, no matter what people here or elsewhere say and this performance proved it. I can't believe he turns 51 in over a week. It's crazy how talented this man is. Prince was out of tune often. If he had done that whimpering and squealing on Americal Idol they would of tossed his azz. It was still a cool performance, but Prince's vocals are never spot on live. He's not a great singer, like Brian Mcknight or Trisha Yearwood.

tear the place down with a rockin' performance, but sedate is sometimes just as good... It kinda threw me off when he ran off to the easel though, wondering "what the heck"? I was kinda hopin' it'd be more than a note to Leno however. Reminded me of 'The Prince Show' on Saturday Night Live.

Vocals were off the chart imo. I've seen it now. Prince looked fine, nothing new or OMG about that. Someone should tell him though that he is several decades late on the pompadour and it won't be making a comeback. Prince can sing well when performing in falsetto...a jazzed up, ballad that I didn't care for originally...nothing new or OMG about that. Prince's band was tight...nothing new or OMG about that. Bria can sit upright on bar stool and Prince can write some scribble to Jay without signing or even putting HIS name on it...OMG!!! That's new! [Edited 5/29/09 7:39am] Not easily pleased are you Hatrina? -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!

It was a great performance.
Somewhere Here On Earth is such a great song. Proabably one of his best ever. It would have been great to have a nice dinner and some wine and have Prince perform some of his romantic music for an hour. Ahhhhh nice daydream.

When you have to diss one person to compliment another you KNOW it's not true. Anyway, very, very nice vocals but holy bad hair, outfit and 25lbs of caked on makeup. Yikes.

I have a "little" TV. I am probably the only one.
So I couldn't see all the things that everybody else did. But Prince was super cool. He has the nerve to do some jazz singing live and even though it just "squeaked by" at times I loved it. Who else does that type of singing on live TV?

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT !!!

loved the performance..who else was kinda disappointed that bria didn't sing and just sat in the background?
Here's a fun trivia: Billy Crystal imitated Prince for a SNL skit back in 1985

Seeing Prince and Billy Crystal together makes me think of that Saturday Night Live sketch where Billy played Prince at the USA For Africa sessions. He would sing "I am the world! I am the children!" Then, whenever another celebrity tried to get near him and sing on mike, Mr. T and Hulk Hogan (I assume playing Big Chick) would either push the celebrity back or just knock them out! Funny stuff. Anyway, very nice performance and that's from someone who really never cared for this particular song. Guess Prince won't be doing Letterman again...strange, back in the 90's, he even did a quick sketch with Paul and Dave. There is some weird rivalry between Jay Leno and David Letterman right now. I read an entire GQ magazine Q&A interview with Jay Leno and they refer to something happening between the two, but never explaining what, like I as a reader should have already known?

You need to research that HBO documentary, I think it was called "Late night" and it explains the rivalry and how Jay ended up with the show even though David was supposed to be a shoe-in to succeed Johnny Carson.
