[Edited 5/29/09 0:35am] Honestly you should not be glad that you did not see it. Even though he did not do the song you like, it was honestly a good performance/set. Vocals were off the chart imo. -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!

Vocals are extraordinary. Band was great! Hair too 90s again. Clothes good. Why does he look 19? Because time is an illusion....he does not age. hahahahaaha -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!

ZiggmanZoo said: Great song and one of my fav from Planet Earth. I would have prefered a new one but the performance and the whole set was great. I would guess that Jay chose this song!? Why? Because if Prince is still into his new stuff he has to be itching to present it.
Prince usually makes odd song choices when it comes to his recent public performances. I thought his performance on Leno was great. The set, the music, everything was well done.

I think you've just had a taste of Montreux... "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."

Isn't Jay a fan of jazz? I thought that was why he chose that song and performed it with that arrangement. Remember, he also pulled "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" out of his canon of songs and performed it in it's more original jazz form years ago. "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

That was cool. I hadn't seen Prince perform a ballad on TV and use the falsetto in a long time. I love Prince's versatility. Goodnight, sweet Prince.

Oooooh he looed so gooood!
I was really surprised thta he did not do one of the fast numbers from Lotusflow3r. I thought he sounded really good, now I'm glad he did SHOE. The jazz club set-up was nice, but I'm a fan of jazz to so it worked for me I was digging the hair, which I thought was wrapped ina semi doo rag at first. It was a nice classy peformance overall.

You guys are nice...I thought besides the cool lounge background setup, the song choice was WEAK...C'mon Prince, either do a new song or a classic to send Jay off. I assume, Jay asked for this song...it was a bit too feminine Prince for me for that venue....don't mind the ballads, but for one song I am not a fan...worst Leno performance ever in my opinion.

Spectacular vocals. I'm so glad I have ears! I know there's another thread asking when Prince was supposed to have peaked, I think he just showed everyone why that is such a moot question. The future is always "frightening" when it comes to his talent. Wow.

I totally agree with you tomato. The man still has it, no matter what people here or elsewhere say and this performance proved it. I can't believe he turns 51 in over a week. It's crazy how talented this man is. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

so Letterman is saying he wont have Prince on the show..
Less he does a proper interview and Prince is trying to get in thru the back door.... riiiiight.....

I've seen it now. Prince looked fine, nothing new or OMG about that. Someone should tell him though that he is several decades late on the pompadour and it won't be making a comeback. Prince can sing well when performing in falsetto...a jazzed up, ballad that I didn't care for originally...nothing new or OMG about that. Prince's band was tight...nothing new or OMG about that. Bria can sit upright on bar stool and Prince can write some scribble to Jay without signing or even putting HIS name on it...OMG!!! That's new! [Edited 5/29/09 7:39am] I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Come on lets be honest people …. If anyone else had done a cheesy jazzy song like that you would have all hated it.
The set looked like something out of one of those awful homemade Paisley Park music videos… and as for the jacket, and what’s going on with his hair? I remember when Prince used to be cool !! (….although that was about 20 years ago).

Definitly an amazing performance last night.
The set - A The singing - A+ wow just amazing The outfit - B looked like a jacket Morris Day might wear The double ear wraps - B- one of the rather odd contraptions is enough P The ol skool mic - A I've never seen him using a cool mic like that very fitting The sign - C- it was cool when he was writing it but when he left Leno to go get it and not say anything and when Leno looked at it and couldn't make it out exactly what it said and than acted like a proud Dad "I'm gonna go hang it up"...whatever it says!!!! Too funny would have been cooler and funnier if it was a caricture picture of Prince and Leno that he pretended to draw!!!! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.
Remember there is only one destination and that place is U All of it. Everything. Is U.

Just saw it on YouTube before he has it yanked. What did the note say? "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Whoa, Prince spent a few bucks on staging. The whole band looked amazing. They sounded great too. That was cool, y'all! Wish he would do that on tour! Prince can't spell though.

Very nice performance actually...on the sedate side....he didn't
tear the place down with a rockin' performance, but sedate is sometimes just as good... It kinda threw me off when he ran off to the easel though, wondering "what the heck"? I was kinda hopin' it'd be more than a note to Leno however.
