Bootlegs that are better than the released versions Off the top of my head I can say the 86-87 version of "We Can Funk" is for sure better than the Grafitti Bridge version, and also "Databank" is way better than the Time's version...What others can you think of? [Edited 5/22/09 13:51pm]

There's a sped up version of A.T.W.I.A.D. on Jewel Box 2 that I absolutely adore. Although I don't think it's supposed to be that fast cos' it sounds the same instrumentaly as the version that appears on The Work vol.2 just played at a slightly faster rpm. Some people are like Slinkies...
They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

there is a version of water does not compute, that is so much better than the album version. [Edited 5/21/09 11:42am] "Sisters and brothers in the purple underground, find peace of mind in the pop sound!"

i beg to differ. i've found that i prefer the album version to many of the boots i've heard. i respect P's judgment so much more now.

I prefer the bootlegged version of "Joy In Repetion" to the edited one on "Grafitti Bridge". "Don't hate me 'cuz I'm fabulous!"

Seriously? There really isn't much difference, aside from the long drum intro.

Seriously? There really isn't much difference, aside from the long drum intro. I agree. But the unreleased version from 1986 is played a little faster to my ears. But other than that and the intro beat it's the same. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I think that the lyrics to OF4S are better on the original, but the music is better on The Vault version.

Does anyone agree that "We Can Funk" and "Databank" were sped up on older boots? I heard The Work versions and, though I guess they are the original tempo, they sound too slow to me...

Yeah, I really like the bassline on the out-take of ATWIAD. Prince's version of All Day, All Night is great too with Lisa's "Ich liebe dich! Ich liebe dich!", I love Jill's version too though. The Beautiful Experience version of Come is great too (again, I like the released version too - shame we never got that as a single, with the mixes). The Rebels version of 'You' is better than the later version/Paula Abdul version IMO. And so is 'If I Love You Tonight'. Strange Relationship, Tick Tick Bang, Computer Blue, Crystal Ball, Crucial, Hallucination Rain - there's quite a few come to think of it.

I way prefer the original version of 'Tick Tick Bang' - nice Dirty Mind-sounding funk instead of the overproduced GB version.

I also like the second part of the GB version where it goes into the "Blow the candle out!" section. Did you know this part was based off a 1982-83 Sunset Sound demo called "Moral Majority"? Blew my mind the first time I heard it! But, yeah, the unreleased "We Can Funk" kicks ass!

Prince's version of "Journey 2 the Center of Your Heart" later per4med by Chaka Khan. I liked his better.
Also, his version of "The Dance Electric" blows Andre's out of the water! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I've seen several versions of We Can Funk. One that I really enjoy is the one that segues from Can't Stop This Feeling I Got. Not sure how similar or different it is to other versions (coz i havent heard them all) but i absoultely love it and think its a lot better than the one on GB.
