I just finished watching the second part of the interview. (Thanks for posting the links cause it's not gonna be on Italian TV any time soon.)
As a former journalist, Tavis' refusal to ask the most obvious follow-up questions made me cringe, BUT he did get Prince to relax and open up. His tactic was to speak to him as a friend and pretty much sit back and let Prince talk. I have to say it worked well. But it was a little crazy hearing Prince say that there have been eight presidents before George Washington and watching Tavis sit there and nod pleasantly. Come on, even a friend could have asked, "Really, who were they?" I think Tavis didn't ask the follow-up because he knew the answer would make Prince sound kinda nuts. Still, it was good to hear Prince talk at such length. Like others have said, Prince seems at peace with himself and I'm happy for him. He is always interesting to listen to - plus he's got such a cool speaking voice.

LOVED the way Prince opened up in this interview.. he was so cute. That little stifled giggle, at the end, when Tavis teased him...
I love the other-worldly, ethereal, spooky Prince... the one everyone scratches their heads over. But it is also lovely to see the guy maybe only his closest friends and family sees. He's a complex guy, for sure.

I feel it is so hurtful for Wendy to say that of a former friend, especially since she knows people are always saying hurtful things about him. What really is her point? Also it was Prince who brought her into his band and this is how she repays him. Sad isn't it? Prince I think has so much more class in how he handled the situation. He said, they were in love before and why not now, there is a true romantic side to this man that I absolutely LOVE. I think it's swings and roundabouts y'know. I totally agree that he aimed this comment at w&l BUT i don't think they meant to be mean, maybe just got carried away?. I also think that he has done more than his share of hurting them in te past. they all need to move on now.

Beyond his guff about "reading the scriptures" with Bria. I do want to see that roundtable with him, Tavis, Michael Dyson, Cornell West. I'd actually pay to watch that. Interesting moment when he finally admitted that he doesn't like male vocalists very much, which is why he uses falsetto on ballads. What he is admitting, for the first time was that he likes James Brown's sound more than his vocals. Stevie's too, I guess. He just hates men. I should be offended..lol I'm sorry, but Michael Eric Dyson would most likely annihilate all of them during a discussion about any topic. He should just be the moderator, LOL. ----- Michael Eric Dyson is the guy that went on a 10 minute rant about how big Michelle Obama butt was on BET. I just finished watching the second part of the Prince interview. I love his sense of humor. Bria is a sweet lady. I like it that one of her goals in creating her album was to sing about the positive aspect of romantic relationships.

too many good things to list but, i found it odd that Bria said her father played 27 instruments...Prince's number did she panic for a number and said Prince's or just that her dad had the exact same number...? ...even odder, could Prince be Bria's... [Edited 4/29/09 15:54pm]

I should clarify: I was referring to Dyson's rapid thinking and advanced vocabulary skills. Dr. West is mentally exceptional as well of course, but Dyson is very didactic and is a spoken word artist, and I doubt his quick and elaborate style of colloquy/teaching would fit well during a discussion with them. Also, I did not see the program where Dyson spoke that particular "rant," but if U are going to use that to discount or negate his intellectual skill then U're the one on drugs. I really liked that Prince referenced Sade, she is one a few in this world. Not very many female vocalist today can come close to her beauty, and mostly the class in which she carries herself. Well one comes to mind Ella Fitzgerald she had real class, and vocals that could shake the house down, beautiful lady she was. I am also excited he mentioned thet he will be working on some jazz projects for the future, I have been a jazz fan since my teens, cannot wait to hear a new jazz album from Prince.

He did fine at the SOBU conference as a matter of fact, but when it was his turn to give last minute thoughts or suggestions, he went into his usual style of speaking, but since he and Dr. West has sat at the same tables many times during various discussions, I'm sure by now Dr. West is used to Prof. Dyson. I'm sure you would also agree that Dyson would probably try to get the last word if there was an actual roundtable discussion with him, Prince, Tavis, Dr. West and others.. I remember Dyson being insulted by a guest on Bill Maher's show because he did not like Dyson's style of preaching or his opinions, and he tried to demean Prof. Dyson. I guess Dyson must have touched him with the truth somewhere and he couldn't handle it. [Edited 4/30/09 11:22am]

Although he's normally always positive and constructive, Dyson is still usually somewhat merciless (LOL) with his coherent thoughts/words when speaking in a forum with others. His dialogue flows out of him so easily. And U're right: Dr. West knows how to handle Dyson during discussion, but I wouldn't say that for many others. The more I think about this though, the more I actually WOULD like to see how Prince would respond to Dyson....Hmm....OK, I've changed my mind: Yes, I would like to see Prince, Tavis, Dr. West, and Prof. Dyson on a public TV show talking about history and current events. I've just stated that he's a spoken artist/performer who can be overwhelming if U can't keep up with his, as I stated, "rapid" thinking and dialogue. Some people are too slow (verbally during speech, not intellectually) to actively respond to him. That's just real. Don't worry, I'm not knocking Prince, just stating reality. However, I agree with U about Dyson's comments regarding Mrs. Obama. I still haven't seen or heard that show, but I don't appreciate silliness like that from brilliant intellectuals either. But hey, I felt the same way when Prince started talking about Larry Graham beating down some guy in the street after that car accident....both stories were asinine, but both men still have respectable minds. Prince has been out with a bunch of different girls in la and he sees a girl in nyc who he was out with on saturday. Watch your back he cant be faithful to one person to save his life. He is 51 years old and still playing girls and hanging out in night clubs, what does that tell you? Dont put all your eggs in one basket be smart Bria he is not the kind of man you think he is. As sad as this whole thing sounds, I believe it. Prince has is known to not want to be alone, he even said with his own mouth he like beautiful things (Girls), and likes to be surounded by them. My question is how does he expect to find the love of his life if she's made to feel she has to compete with all these women? And may not even want to (if she is smart)
Then this of course this, poses all kinds of questions about his spirituality.. Still cannot get over his words "I like constructive critism from smart people" if these rumors have any once of truth to them, then is this being smart? Not really, is that smart enough for you??
