Man, what was up with Tavis? Dude was acting like a slobbering lapdog. He wasn't like that in the 2004 interview. He asked tougher questions back then. What happened? Did P and his JW cronies work him over or something? Cuz Tavis was neutered. He giggled like a schoolgirl, gave Prince a tongue bath. I thought he was gonna fall to his knees and call him Godfather.

I'm watching the Bria/ Prince interview right now and it's clearly that they been here reading our post here on the org. They made comments about a lot of things we complained about. .
Tavis did great asking great questions.

nod

Part 2 was far better! Prince and Bria both sound very humbled by the critical reception to her cd:

-Prince backtracking on the Sade comparison
-Bria saying to Tavis they made exceptional elevator music

It is clear that they both read the reviews here on the ORG because this is the only place where anyone brought up Chante Moore's name. Of course, the comparisons always cast Bria as a lesser vocalist, but nonetheless they were made here.

All in all, I think Prince sounds very intelligent and comes across quite informed when talking about the ins and outs of the music business--his field. He has truly mastered his field of endeavor and is to be credited for that.
Miguel Gomez brought it up before me but I brought up Chante Moore's name, too! excited

I am so fammy right now. touched

Yeah, Tavis wasn't like that in 1998 either. lol

the thing about tavis is that he did still get his digs in. it seems to be his style to fawn over his guest but to slip in questions that you know they don't want to answer.

i mean, he asked him, straight to his face, who, being the greatest musician alive, he considers "smart" enough to criticize him.

look at how prince's face changes when he says that. biggrin

I think this is Prince's third time being on his show,
Tavis must be doing something right. How many times has
he accepted and invitation to your crib? nana

U know what...yup, U're right. Tavis changed from being clever and challenging upfront with Prince, to being slick and sneaking the tough questions in from nowhere. lol I prefer his former style, but it's cool either way I guess 'cause Prince always appears to be very comfortable and talkative when interviewed by him.

yeah, and it's weird. if you just read the flat transcript of what tavis said, you would have expected prince to have been missing from his chair when the camera panned back to him.

I bet before P took a nap for 10-20 minutes that nite (because we all know he doesn't sleep!)..he was thinking, man I shoulda responded with "My answer would be 20 yeah ahead of that question!" Come on doesn't everyone play 'I shoulda said that' at the end of each day??

Next year when Tavis interviews P.. Tavis will wear a catholic schools girls uniform..and dance around and in a gigly voice and go "its prince, its prince, prince, prince the greatest!" For the lack of respect he shown P in the interview.

Prince's look was priceless when asked about why no radio play. Prince stated he was shocked that MPLSound was not getting radio play and that the whole cd was radio friendly. But of course he knows it's because he's not with a major label. So sad... sad

Didn't notice any change in his face. How'd he look?

I think the boldest question Travis ever asked was from the earlier interview, the '98 one, I think, where he quoted Rolling Stone's reason for not putting Prince on the cover. Something about him not being commercially, artistically, or culturally relevant enough. I was like, hot damn! That's harsh! And Prince just whimpered, "I think I'm great." Tavis dug in to Prince pretty deep there.

The new interview, by comparison, was mostly softballs.

Never invited him. My talk show is reserved for supermodels and actresses. Besides, I have a feeling he'd just lecture me about Jehovic prophecies and chem trails in the sky. wink

Liv4Love - I think you missed my point -- My point is how did you obtain your morals - and I believe as a human being we all are created by God and are instilled in our heart with his standards from the bible instintively - However just like Adam and Eve a person can choose with their free will to follow the instintive morals provided by God or not. Also depending on the environment a person is raised also affects their morals/ethics.

The point I am making is even though you do not believe in God does not mean you were not instilled with morals from God and from people around you who do believe in God. It is your choice to believe or not believe - I am just providing my comment to your post and I am not judging you.

Just KeepinItReal

have you actually read the old testament? if you have then you would realise that those are exactly the 'morals' that humanity does not need and has strived for thousands of years to overcome. and arguments like that was the sign o' the times - just do not add up,
I can see in myself that is not moral, the suppression of woman the barbaricness in the old testament is not moral/was never moral. yet i have no belief in god

the argument that we were designed by god is lunacy. because humanity's morals evolve, (their is survival benefit toward empathy etc...). if we were all created by god why would some people be immoral and some moral?, what determines this distinction. What makes some catholic priest's abuse children, or even the many published accounts of sexual abuse in JW’s that occur?

I do not think a (insert religion) doing charity work because they know that will be perceived as good by god and then be allowed into heaven - is morality. Most Christians etc... are good because they know if they are good (in their eyes) they will be rewarded. THAT IS NOT MORALITY.

I am good because I was brought up well -- > with manners and knowing right from wrong. anti social behaviour etc.. run's in families, people are socialized to be moral or not. it has nothing to do with god.

Claiming that it does it total insult to people.

I really must say, I enjoyed the second part of the interview much better than the first. I even understand his Soundscan point a bit better. He may be right. The second part didn't have any embarrassing moments like the first part, so all is good.

Beyond his guff about "reading the scriptures" with Bria.

I do want to see that roundtable with him, Tavis, Michael Dyson, Cornell West. I'd actually pay to watch that.

Interesting moment when he finally admitted that he doesn't like male vocalists very much, which is why he uses falsetto on ballads.

What he is admitting, for the first time was that he likes James Brown's sound more than his vocals. Stevie's too, I guess.

He just hates men. I should be offended..lol

Well... My public television station DID NOT play part 1 on Monday ( after I stayed up all night waiting on it pissed) but, they played both on Tuesday. They were 2 seconds away from not getting my $20 pledge this year...

Anywho-

I really liked seeing Prince open up in his body language. I really enjoyed feeling like I was sitting in a living room with them while they talked. Tavis is slick! he knows how to "butter and burn"... As a journalist who deals constantly with celebrities, you have to learn how to get what you want to hear out of someone without putting them off. Prince talked about things that you never hear from him (although I am sure he planned that for his own reasons). I loved it. I don't wanna watch an interviewer " grill" Prince and rip into him. There's no cause for that. I want to see rapport that draws out things that I never or seldom see in the artist that I admire.
Shake....shake, shake, shake.

It's embarrasing to Prince IMO when someone kisses his ass that hard on national tv. If Prince was like "heck yeah, I'm great!" it would look like he was the biggest jackass of all time. Tavis was starstruck! The best part was when Tavis was asking about excellence and how the every day idiot can be like P.. It's like what? whats the secret P?? Maybe Tavis seen that fine POA Bria and was like..I need to get the secret from this guy biggrin
