yeah me too. people liked him during Purple Rain era. I don't get it. So much original talent I don't know why more people aren't as appreciative of what he does. Probably won't get his recognition till he's not here any more. sad I hate to even think of that day.

its easy to get people into prince, the music does it, he has all the styles for anyone so, just match it.

so true... that's how I got my husband to come around. I find there are a fair amount of "closet" Prince fans out there - they usually will own up to it once they realize I'm a die-hard smile and then I can usually hook 'em with his newer works.

I was thinking in the shower today and I came to the realization that no one I know in real life likes Prince's music. I even decided to do a search on Facebook for people in the high school I went to that had Prince listed under music they liked and I was the only one that showed up. Also on Facebook, I set my status to "I think everyone should go out and buy the new Prince album" and I got one response, which was simply "no."

How do I imbue all these non-believers with some Purple Spirit?
Do any of you have similar situations?

Dude you're only 19, most people dig music in their age range. You are a rarity lol and living in Frisco, TX. However there have been Threads on here of Young Prince Fans and just Prince Fans period all over the World.

If you live in Pensacola, that might be me!! I had symbols made for my car and both my sister's cars.

I have managed to convert some people at work, just by playing his music 24/7. Most people have not even heard most of his work and are amazed when they find out that it is Prince that they are diggin on.

I feel bad for everyone that has to dig Prince alone. One of my closest friends is a mega-fan (even more than me). The org is great for discussing Prince, but it was very nice to be able to have a 30 minute telephone conversation last weekend about the new albums.

Hahahahaha!
I would have backed the lady up and told her she should buy it anyway. I almost told a lady I saw at Target who was eying the album to buy it because it was amazing, but my brother stopped me. sad

I think it might take a lot to appreciate Prince for what his music is really about. He's a musician first, intelligent and clever... no one wants to think anymore, they just want to shake their ass and talk about hoes, money and listen to synthesized voices. T-pain anyone? eek

no substance

I agree. People want to enjoy music at face value instead of digging into it and finding the beauty.

i think you will find that there are more fans around you than you think...i know lots of prince fans...most of my family love his music , well most of it...but he is so eclectic that you need to be very open minded to always follow his career...his art always comes before making money...
i know that might sound silly with some of the stunts he pulls but prince could easily do what madonna has done to stay in the charts....releasing the musicial left turn that was the atwiad album nine months after the huge purple rain album shows that his music comes before making money.....prince deserves eternal credit for that and proved he is a true artist...
his albums continue to sell between 1 to 2 million worldwide with each release...even in his 80s peak...parade and sott only sold 3 to 4 million so he still has a large fan base...look at his concerts...he can still pull huge crowds...400,000 went to the london concerts in 2007...so there are fans around you...you just need to find them smile

The amount of people I know who are Michael Jackson fans is mind boggling, yet there's no Prince fans. I've only met one person who liked his music (and he's since moved away to a different college.)

I have encountered that impression from people that I have met. In fact I was talking to a girlfriend last week and she says she doesn't like Prince and her boyfriend can't stand him...

Yet sure enough it comes out to be that all either one of them really know is "Purple Rain."

It just goes to show U how limited their knowlege is...I told her that they were really missing out. cool
