I still like to listen first, but the guy doesn't seem like he's just trying to dog the cds - or he'd say it was all terrible. i personally know a few music critics who listen to WAY more music than even I do, so I respect their opinions even when I do not agree. BINGO. Thank U. He says, "Not really understanding Lotusflow3r. Hopes for a big Prince radio comeback not realized. Wishing I was home." He wants hits and radio play? Not "understanding" an album? Perfectly unqualified music critic! [Edited 3/20/09 12:53pm] "He's a musician's musician..."

this is what most people will think about the new album. and where did the reviewer say he didn't like TRC? he mentioned that people who UNDERSTOOD the ramblings on that album might be able to translate the ramblings in THIS ONE. but this isn't reality. it's the Org. and the purple sheep will lap up Prince's garbage and pretend it's the finest wine in the history of mankind. I for one, am not expecting much from the new release. he's released mostly garbage for at least 10 years or so, not counting TRC. Well let’s be honest...AND smart for a change. Dig if U will the picture... A LONG time fan of Prince who has always found many treasures in the music from Prince will lap up the garbage of the new stuff and feel that it is a fine form of wine. Well, you are on to something! The answer is...DUH! If people have always enjoyed Prince music and always devoured the sounds and found the gems over the years of Prince's saga...then my intellectual self would tell me that yes, all of us little "fammy sheeps" will enjoy the new music. If we did not enjoy it (at least some of it), that would be a bit strange, don't ya think? If you honestly think he has released mostly garbage over the last 10 years than fine, so be it. I guess I should catagorize you as a "hater" But alas, I won't because I actually realize people have different likes and opinions and what you consider to be crap I may consider to be treasure. But I will still remain a "fam" because I still enjoy sipping the fine purple wine. -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!

Unfortunately we continue to dance because people like you continue to call us fammy sheep JUST because we DO LIKE the music. It's this sort of thing that makes songs on records bland and artists' careers die because they're not able to create to their hearts' content - it's gotta sound all alike or it's "uneven" or "not a package". IMHO, a good musician is one well versed in all styles of music and able engender all kinds of feelings in the listener. But hey, I guess most people like to listen to one artist make a record of 10 songs that all have plain-jane I-IV-V progressions, commonplace lyrics, use all the same instruments, use basic diatonic melodies with primarily pentatonic guitar solos, and have basically the same structure. I pity those people.
There called Bruce, U2, Neil Young and Tom Petty fans. I know, I should not have named names!

Of the artists you've named, Bruce and Neil in particular are songwriting geniuses whose output arguably outweighs Prince's And I say this as someone who considers Prince his fave artist of all time, and who doesn't even particularly like Neil. There's no need to dismiss the work of others to feel better about Prince. Broaden your minds a little!

NuPwrSoul said: Ouch! That was a tough review. Like others have said, most of the review is not about the record itself, but concerned with the listener's (possible) reaction to the record. I'm interested in more description, less interpretation, because when it comes to Prince's music other people's interpretations usually have very little relevance to my personal enjoyment of his music.
Still, did the writer just compare Bria Valente to Eliot Spitzer's hooker? DAYUM: A third CD, entirely sung by new protege Bria Valente, is so lifeless and irrelevant as to hardly merit mention here. "Elixer" is a wholly forgettable trudge through generic R&B plodders that would drag down the most dynamic of singers; and Valente is not one. Her breathy whispers and naughty good looks, for that matter are more reminiscent of Ashley Alexandra Dupre than Apollonia.

I seem to remember reviews about 3121 and Planet Earth being a 'return to form'... I think these reviews are nothing more than a semi-interesting read that should get almost no credibility, just like movie reviews.
I find that they usually either make you expect something amazing and you end up being underwhelmed, or they get a bad review for seemingly no reason. That being said, I think I will enjoy 'wildly uneven' just fine. I would much rather have that then uniform, plain, and boring. Thanks for the review.

We can't even joke in here about something like that without people taking it literally. [Edited 3/20/09 13:59pm] I'm just waiting to DL the new albums after I mortgage my home for the $77 yearly subscription price of Lotusflow3r. This reviewer over exposed his credibility IMO when he said, "an unnecessary cover of 'Crimson and Clover'". Even though I expect I may like MPLSound most... I still agree with nearly everyone that this is a great cover. But as always... I'll like what I like regardless of a critics or 'haterz' view of the music. But I do find it interesting after reading a couple of reviews (including this one) that they like MPLSound more than Lotusflow3r... yet around these parts... people are swearing their going to think the opposite based on the tracks we heard... and there's nothing I can say against that. The rock laden tracks we heard were pretty good. I'm not saying that's a bad thing... but it can prove to be a very good thing. It basically says to me that there just may indeed be enough very good material between the two albums for all the fans, including the 'haterz' (I can only hope) to wrap themselves around... and the over all project be a good one.
