I have never been so disapointed in a Prince album. 2 songs exactly two that I liked from that thing

i listened to a couple of songs from a friend's copy and decided that it would be the first hole in my Prince collection.

I have it and still consider it a hole in my collection. biggrin

....since TRC without a trouble and far away better than New Power soul or Rave > those who liked TRC will like LTF!

newsflash, people.
this is what most people will think about the new album.
and where did the reviewer say he didn't like TRC?
he mentioned that people who UNDERSTOOD the ramblings on that album might be able to translate the ramblings in THIS ONE.

but this isn't reality. it's the Org.
and the purple sheep will lap up Prince's garbage and pretend it's the finest wine in the history of mankind.

I for one, am not expecting much from the new release.
he's released mostly garbage for at least 10 years or so, not counting TRC.

and the chronic Prince haters will resurrect (cuz they just can't seem to leave) and resort to name calling of those who like the album and proclaim how Prince is washed up, lost it, blah blah blah blah.

the "problem" with this review is that it tells us absolutely zero
about the albums that we didn't know yet.

the bits we've heard from the lotusflower album, including reports
on "boom" and "dreamer" from the rare live performances.

we also know that lotusflower doesn't have just guitar based songs
but also slow stuff like 4ever and cocktail jazz and a dance/funk
track called "$".

we know that mplsound contains a few balads, a cover of u're gonna
c me and a "space aged ballad" called better with time which was
inspired by kirsten scott thomas.

plus the "controversy" connection to mplsound which was trumpeted
at dr funkenberry months ago as a quote from john blackwell.

i don't see anything in this review that i didn't already know.
there are no lyric quotes, no real song descriptions and no word
on musicians playing on any of the songs or guests.

Exactly. Worthless review.

exactly. these are the reflections of an "average joe" listener of music. he's not fammy mcfammkins, and he's not a self-professed hater of all things prince.

while he might be missing out on details that would make fans go ga-ga, at the same time it's kinda refreshing to see comments of the album by someone who hasn't memorized every page of "the vault" and who hasn't seen graffiti bridge 100 times. dead

that said, i'm not gonna let this review dampen my excitement of hearing the music with my own ears on tuesday.

isnt it a pity that the general public "average joe" cant enjoy his music and only Prince fans "get" him.

No. I used to feel that way but I don't now. I tell them about it but if they buy it, they buy it. If they don't, their loss not mine. thumbs up!
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

The reviewer pretty much writes what has been written for the last two decades about Prince's releases. A few good tracks mixed in with a bunch of crap. I'm looking forward to ripping about ten tracks from the Target release to my iPod and never hearing the rest of it ever again.

My only fear for the die hard fans out there that are flying into Los Angeles is that they're going to be forced to sit through a set by Bria (or whatever her name is.) Bring your earplugs to Los Angeles just in case.

But seriously folks. Look at his setlists at the concerts if you want to see how much faith he has in his material from the last 20 years. A track here or a track there. He now plays covers instead of his own material. Pretty sad. At least he's become a much better guitarist.

so true.....I'm not holding my breath.....

Saw Grace Jones perform live last night here in Amsterdam, her set contained her own material of the last 30 years and it was awesome. Her performance, stage-presence and deliverance were downright smashing.....she's 60 years old!

Just saying.....

I can't get over the review of Bria's album. ouch:

"A third CD, entirely sung by new protege Bria Valente, is so lifeless and irrelevant as to hardly merit mention here. "Elixer" is a wholly forgettable trudge through generic R&B plodders that would drag down the most dynamic of singers; and Valente is not one. Her breathy whispers and naughty good looks, for that matter are more reminiscent of Ashley Alexandra Dupre than Apollonia."

Not a promising review, but I'm still need to hear it for myself before I give my final judgement.

My expectations for Lotusflow3r are through the freakin' roof after reading this review! I already LOVE all four of "Crimson & Clover," "4EVER," "Colonized Mind" and "Wall of Berlin." Plus, I've been excited about the minute-long snippet of "Feel Good, Feel Better, Feel Wonderful" since it was first released. NOW, this review proclaims that the two highlights on Lotusflow3r are "Boom" and "Dreamer," tracks we still haven't heard. That's 7 out of 10 songs! This album is gonna kill.me.dead. DEAD, I tell you.

Hell Yah!!!!

I have a special bottle of red wine all ready for the debut listening

Reasons why I don't use someone else's judgement to make the decision as to whether or not I should purchase an artist's music.

Here R a few reasons not 2 worry about this review:

A) He doesn't like 'The Rainbow Children'.
B) He doesn't like "Crimson & Clover".
C) He's likening "There'll Never B Another Like Me" and "Chocolate Box" 2 'Controversy' (album).
[Edited 3/20/09 9:09am]

I'm with him on A. & B.,
if he likes C. then this has got to be really bad.

I do like Colonized Mind quite a bit tho'

So the reviewer say "Lotus Flow3r" is weird. I like weird when it comes to Prince so I prolly will love this! Also the reviewer thinks MPLSoUND is awesome.

2 out of 3 ain't bad.. Sounds like an honest review and to those of you that think P can do no wrong, even with proteges! you will more than likely love the Bria cd.

The rest of us just decide if we replace the Bria cd with the Wendy and Lisa cd and all is good. biggrin Either way it sounds like two Prince cds that I will enjoy.

i'm interested in the bria CD just to hear prince's songwriting, musicianship and backing vocals. if bria can carry a tune, that's just an added bonus to me.

I like weird Prince too.

"Thing is, if you're going to listen to someone indulge themselves in genre-bending psychedelia, it may as well be this guy"...

That line caught my attention as well. And for the record I think I will like Bria for what it is. Mellow smooth P music with female vocals.
MPlSound, the one I WAS looking forward to, now concerns me.
Overall I'm sure I'll find stuff that suits me.
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

If you consider from 1979 to 1994 for a while, then, yes.

Besides, underground artists don't sell out arenas. wink
