How many of you would have preferred Dream Factory be released...

...as it was instead of reworked into Sign o The Times? Much as I love SOTT, I really think there should have been a place on the final product at least for the songs Dream Factory and Train.

That would have been cool. P was going thru a real good creative flow in 86/87 and some of those unreleased demos were slammin'. The "Dream Factory" would have been interesting.

There were some constraints in space due to the current technology, but even if he had to make SOTT a 3 disc set I think it would have been worth it to include some of those really stellar songs that got cut.

Honestly, both are great...I listen to Dream Factory now more than I do SOTTs mainly cause I played SOTTs into the ground over the years and DF has tracks that are newly discovered. But SOTTs is great as it is too.

Same for me. SOTT kicks all ass, but Dream Factory just has those few extra songs that are still "new", relatively speaking.

I even kinda wish Movie Star had been on the final cut. boxed

Dream Factory is amazing.

Nevaeh Ni Ecalp A is pretty sweet too, even if it's not a song proper.

I think the final configuration of Dream Factory and Crystal Ball are both masterpieces. I have always been a little more curious of how the three album Crystal Ball would have been received. Both albums are two of my favorites from him.

As do I. Ooops.
It really is a different beast than SOTT even though they share quite a few songs. I don't remember the tracklisting for Crystal Ball 3-cd set and I don't have it so I can't comment on that one.

Can't see it to be honest. Having SOTT as the opening and title track rather than just another track tucked away on one of 4 sides of vinyl really gave a hook to the album. Conversly, Dream Factory is a rather perfunctory track that really serves more like an intro to the album. I guess this is the point to the LP (Dreams are often disparate and go off on wild tangents), but whether that translates into commercial impact is another thing. The same can be said for 'Crystal Ball'.

Dream Factory is a great album, but I think it's whimsy would've been met with much the same reaction as that on Parade.

The 3 LP set of Crystal Ball would have been awesome at the time. Can't help but think it was the record company that whittled it down to the version we know today.

Could someone org note me tracklisting or whatever for Crystal Ball? wink
I'm really wanting to delve into that aborted project right about now.
Thanks in advance. Orgers usually pull through.

Having Dream Factory in place of Sign O' The Times means we would gain these songs:

Visions
Dream Factory
Train
Crystal Ball
A Place In Heaven
Last Heart
Witness 4 The Prosecution
Movie Star
All My Dreams

But we would lose:

Play In The Sunshine
Housequake
Hot Thing
Forever In My Life
U Got The Look
If I Was Your Girlfriend
It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night
Adore

So I vote for keeping SOTT. Hopefully Roadhouse Garden will eventually see the light of day and will contain a lot of these lost-era Revolution tracks.

5 of those tracks have been officially released, 6 if you include Mavis' version of 'Train'.

Is Crystal Ball "out there" like Dream Factory?
Btw, CB would've been quite a statement.

I wish he would have have released Dream Factory ( one of his greatest works imo) late 86 and SOTT ( with non DF tracks) the year after.

Of those four Prince tracks (as Visions is Lisa Coleman solo), three have been edited in some form. And even the non-edited one (Last Heart) has these irritating fade-in/outs with other songs.
