The one that lyrics/content-wise resonates with me the most. The lines here below are the best social commentary I've heard in a long time, as we are told to cheerfully applaud the merits of a supposedly interconnected and concerned facebook-empowered 'global village'.
Maybe we are interconnected, but do we care? I see signs of isolation not just in the future, but even today. And ironically, I think this very commentary by Prince stands quite isolated in the current frenzy for [commercially profitable:)] mass connections. Few are making this type of predictions - which are obviously unprofitable for those who are in the 'connecting' business. Download Future full of isolated Full of isolated - Boys and girls

Most people fail to see this reality, for they are attached to what they cling to, to pleasures and delights. Since all the world is so attached to material things, it's very difficult for people to grasp how everything originates in conditions and causes. It's a hard job for them to see the meaning of the fact that everything, including ourselves, depends on everything else and has no permanent self-existence.

I really can't stand folks who attempt political commentary yet don't vote themselves. Prince's new revelation that he doesn't vote renders his lyrics here null and void. Don't vote? Shut up about politics!

I don't quite grasp this whole notion of not having the right to comment on events if at the same time one doesn't take action to redress the said events.
I understand the right to vote to be the freedom to vote AND the freedom not to vote. If to apply such logic [as one must join one's words to action], voicing one's views and concerns in some countries could put one's life at risk. Those who hold such views: would you be ready to pick up your pitchforks and join the bloody protests in the Moscow or Burmese streets?... If you don't, if you are not ready to face the police's truncheons, then really you have no right to express your anti-Kremlin/anti-burmese government views... thebige said: I really can't stand folks who attempt political commentary yet don't vote themselves. Sorry, but the American government is supposed to be of the people and by the people. It is designed as a participatory government. The greatest criticism we have is our right to vote. If you don't vote then you have no right to criticize the political landscape. It's meaningless, and just makes the critic look like an idiot. Prince is an adult American citizen. To sit on the sidelines and then try to get all preachy about things is just lame. Think the two party system is an illusion of choice? Guess what, there are actually other parties to vote for! Doubtful in America that anytime soon someone outside of the Democratic/Republican box is going to be elected President but one can still certainly make their voice heard by voting another way. If enough people actually did that then maybe there could be real change in the American political system. I'm talking about the obligations of American citizenship. Everyone has the freedom not to vote, but by exercising that freedom you give up the right to criticize the process. You have opted out. So, Prince has opted out for religious reasons. That is certainly his right. But it just makes him look like an ass when he turns around and puts out lyrics criticizing the political system. It's whole other level when you consider the fact that unless you're a white male in America somebody somewhere fought long and hard for your right to vote and be empowered. So, Prince has decided to opt out of that fought for right. More power to him. But IMHO it makes him look like a huge ass to turn around and then try to offer some political commentary.
In America one should participate in their government at all levels. One's vote is their voice. Otherwise, shut the hellz up. Flo6 said: I don't quite grasp this whole notion of not having the right to comment on events if at the same time one doesn't take action to redress the said events.

Will never happen until man is no more. Then maybe we'll get along just fine. I will bet my life on the fact that there will never be peace between all men. Not every person is capable of being a "peaceful" person. Some of us just weren't born right or suffered along the way, either physically of mentally (is that not the same thing though?). Look at the thugs that beat people to near-death for no other reason than being in a gang or being different, or the old and vulnerable that suffer abuse from callous individuals within our societies. Nope, some people are just scum that should be removed in the same way we and nature treat any other abnormality or fault. I'd be happier with my daughter walking home at night knowing that the thuggish hoodies and rapists that scatter and scour our streets were non-existent. Anyway what is the song about then?

Ha! Expect to see this in a song if Prince ever decides to be dirty again. You have a point though. I used to pay far more attention to the lyrics when he was singing about blowing his beans up (or over) everything. Oh the old happy days... [Edited 1/5/09 5:08am]

His usual preachy hooboo juboo is embedded within the lyrics, but overall, it's a pretty good song. The melody is nice

WHAY R UR THOUGHTS ON THIS SONG? I agree with u 100 percent. The first time I heard this song the first thing that came to mind was Jimi. Its got that oldschool, 60's rock feel. There's definitely Joy In Repetition.

This is how I feel about it now too. Of course, he just had to get in his ignorant comment about evolution, as well as his same old repetitious argument about record labels (as if we didn't hear this enough times in the 1990's). What bothers me about the lyrics though are how conventional and mundane they are. Children with no fathers have no respect for authority. Children with no mothers have a hard time showing love. It's like a speech from a character in a Disney movie. It's sententious and unprovocative. Compare this with the brilliant play on words, "In France, a skinny man died of a big disease with a little name." It's unfortunate because it has a really good chorus; especially near the end. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."
