I'm really feeling all the new songs, especially "Conolized Mind". I know Prince is not doing anything revolutionary or anything that he hasn't done before, but I still am loving the new songs. Fairly interesting lyrics and good melodies, that's enough for me at this point. Prince has already done it all basically and i'm just happy about the fact that he's still able to release good music. I can't complain at all.

NEW INFOS!

Source HQ

http://www.housequake.com...did=108373

The responsible for the big sound is Richard Furch (tracking/sequencing and mastering/engineering); this fits with recent posts made in Furch's blog where he stated he was working with Prince; further info available here. Curiously, the original post from Richard Furch at his blog (at this link) is now empty.

At the end of last summer, Prince recorded a few new rock tracks with Michael B, which were sequenced in a CD this fall. The four tracks played by Indie 103 are part of this album.

Specifically, Michael B plays (at least) in Colonized mind and Wall of Berlin.

Thanx 2 Cateto from HQ

COLONIZED MIND ROCKS MY WORLD razz

Hey lovesymbol...
Is there a place now online to still listen to the songs? I am at work and have limited access, but I cannot seem to find the new songs anywhere to listen to. Even that MPLS site is not working...
Is there a certain place I need to go?
Thanks

Hi fams,

i like all the new songs.....
They sound fresh and funky 2 me...
The best song is Colonized Mind...it sounded so much like THE WAR and ONE SONG same new style of creating a new direction of recording.....

But i miss the new song : THE DIVINE.....is this song on the new album too ????
What is it called ?

One day i hope he will put out the electric version of welcome 2 the dawn....i wait so long 4 the promised THE DAWN ALBUM....but since the cassette single of holy river (welcome 2 the dawn (Electric version) from the forthcoming album THE DAWN...) nothing goes in this direction...

But i know he is follwing his masterplan.....
2012 ? The Dawn ??? We will see....

Prince prince i am with U and thank U 4 your music.....U are da master...

And one note 2 all the haters....we are all ONE why all attack a musician who is such a huge inspiration 2 all of us....????

Peace and live 4 love

I was just thinking maybe Prince sounds redundant to some of us at this point because most orgers have heard just about every album every year they are released, where as though the general public might here a song like 4ever and think that Prince sounds fresh and re energized.

But really any new Prince music would be just fine by me so I hope he decides what he's going to do reasonably soon, although Im pretty sure Prince already has a clue and probably picking peoples brains to see which way he wants to go with the release.

As an 'old time' Prince fan, I'll state without a doubt there's nothing wrong with the direction he's been going. He does what he wants musically, and truthfully, we all know that with how prolific he is - if you don't like one album, you'll probably like the next one.

I loved a lot of 3121, but not a lot of Planet Earth (I found it a little weak). Unfortunately, I haven't got to hear the new tracks, but I'm excited for them nevertheless.

The only Prince album i can't get into, no matter how much I try, is The Rainbow Children. It's just too damn preachy.

Oh, and for those complaining about Planet Earth - it sorta reminded me of Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic - which we all remember as a really weird album with some interesting tracks, but a lot of goofiness. But the album before that was the masterpiece of the Gold Experience. And we got Musicology not long after.

He's Prince. You won't love every song, but you should respect them all, because the man just plays whatever musical style his soul tells him to, and the end result is always, always a surprise.

Can someone tell me WHICH 'label' it is on the 1031 site to hear the songs? The 'Far Right Box' doesn't really work now that they've updated. So not sure which I need to be clickin on :p

I'm likin these new songs, especially 'Colonized Mind' and '4ever'....'Wall of Berlin' is pretty good to, but not really feelin' 'Crimson and Clover' at the moment. I hope he does a tour with this new album, because I love watching that man play guitar and these songs are loaded with some great guitar riffs.
I have to give him much respect for not being a damn follower. From these 4 songs, he doesn't seem to be willing to follow the hip-hop sound trend like the majority of his predecessors seem to be soo keen on doing as of late. Regardless of how many individuals want to hate on these songs, be happy that T-Pain, Timbaland, or Lil Wayne's asses don't seem to be anywhere near this album...hopefully. lol

Prince is still making real music, which is all that matters to me personally. I've outgrown the idea that Prince will ever have an album as outstanding and popular as PR or SOTT ever again, because he's not that person anymore and that was back in the day when the music seemed to take precedence over the current 'image with a soundtrack' theme that seems to be soo popular with today's artists. As long as he's not using Autotune and repeating the same word over and over again like a retarded nursery rhyme, than I have nothin but love for the man. It's fine if some aren't diggin the songs because everybody has a right to their own opinion and different strokes for different folks as the saying goes, but at least be happy that he didn't sell out to the popular sound of the moment. I'm not a Prince apologist. I don't love every new thing the guy does. Actually, far from it. That being said...

Crimson & Clover - the change into "Wild Thing" was interesting, but felt natural. For those saying this is typical Prince guitar playing, I think you're wrong. Honestly, this is far more soulful than what we heard on Planet Earth's shoulabeenamazingbutwasmediocre "Guitar." What I like most about this song is how much it reminds me of OLD Prince. As in 1980s Prince. "Raspberry Beret" Prince.

Colonized Mind - Again, man, this guitar is real. A lot of times, with Prince music, it seems as if the guitar is thrown in more as an afterthought than the actual spine of the music. Which is why a lot of his songs don't feel like rock songs or even funk songs anymore. Musicology changed this to some degree, so did some of 3121. But on "Colonized Mind," the guitar is definitely the soul of the music. People say they don't want another chill Prince album - I say, dude, if this is what Prince is going to give us on the next album then PLEASE give it to me. This doesn't feel like the mealy-mouthed 'oh, here's a song i wrote, whatever' of Planet Earth. Also, like C&C, this definitely had an old-school Prince vibe to me. Some of the guitar work reminded me of the Purple Rain tracks. As for lyrics - I like 'em. I don't care if he's still whining about the record industry - that's one line in this huge song, with great music, great lyrics. These are the sort of lyrics I get behind, the sort of lyrics that made me fall in love with what Prince had to say. Compare this to 'Hot Wit U.' Ugh.

Wall of Berlin - see, again, the guitar along with drums on this track are so very much the soul of this song. I actually really like this song, and it's got a great old-school Prince vibe. Not in the style of Purple Rain, but more in the style of "Starfish & Coffee" or "Lady Cab Driver." During the little guitar interludes, there's a hardcore Hendrix vibe that I pick up. Really nice. The guitar solo almost goes where I want it to, and is probably one of the best I've heard Prince do in YEARS. This solo is better than "Fury", this is better than "Guitar", probably better than "Endorphinemachine".

4ever - I'll admit to being a big fan of shmaltzy Prince songs. "Beautiful Ones," "She Gave Her Angels," "Still Would Stand All Time," "One Kiss at a Time," etc. are some of my favorites. As for this one - I'm mixed. The bridge was great. But I found the chorus to be extremely lacking in its catchiness. But by the end of the song, it had grown on me, because the rest of the song feels good. Once more, good guitar work that's part of the song, not something added on top of it. Occassionally, when the chorus would break out, this felt like some mediocre Pentacostal Band song playing at any church on Sunday morning. Out of the 4 new songs, this is my least favorite, but man - it's better than all but two songs on Planet Earth. I'll admit.

Overall - I don't really get what's up with the venom being spewed about these new songs. Rolling Stone said this was a return to the Prince Rock Album, and guys - that's very much what this is. More than anything, it reminded me of PRE- 1990 Prince. Before "Cream," before "Aarogance" or "Undisputed."

I love this, and if we get a full album of this quality, it will be the best Prince album in years. If these are just the 4 best songs, and the rest are going to be more bargain basement Planet Earth style tracks, then it'll just go to show that Prince needs to get a filter on himself and maybe release an album every other year, rather than every year. As much as I love having new Prince stuff.

"Colonized Mind" is good for napping.

"Wall of Berlin" is corny cheese overall.

"Crimson & Clover" has annoying vocal effects.

"4ever" well...just sucks a lot of dick.

Some good guitar work in a few spots, but overall, nothing exciting. 12 years of bad music and counting...

Interesting. Personally, I think The Rainbow Children was incredible (and I'm the LAST one who wants to be preached to), so much that I have it vinyl too. That's what great about being a Prince fan is the difference of opinions. Some take it to the extreme though, which I find amusing. I do agree with you on Gold. In my book, the most underated album of his, especially if he would've left Days of Wild as the opening track ovr Pussy Control. FYI I managed to hear the tracks and musically they were pretty cool. Not a revisit to Chaos and Disorder as some have stated on here (though I liked that too), but some nice guitar work and progressive bass lines. Of course Crimson and Clover was a remake which I'm still not sure why Prince is doing that. That was just OK I guess. Why not remake Machine Gun?
