Hmm. Some people may say im dumb now but i find the new song of prince Colonized Minds may be one of his best ever its just the right song with the right feel.

4ever - cool sorta power ballad. It's like a mish-mash of Everywhere, Last December, and Splash.

Colonized Mind - most interesting of the bunch. Kinda has the All Along The Watchtower/Best Of You feel. Interesting explorations with a classic sound.

Wall Of Berlin - a grower and more of an album track or b-side. I like how it shifts gears for a minute mid-song.

Crimson & Clover - cool cover of a classic song. The vocal treatment is really sunny and fun.

I think these songs are really indicative of a great new album.

Somehow, in 4ever, he managed to convey wistfulness, sadness and hope - all in the same track.

Someone earlier wrote out the lyrics to Forever and my god, love sick teenagers write better lyrics. Prince's lyrics have become completely embarrassing. They're either immature come ons that would better fit a teen idol or they're his moronic religious worldview in cliched four minute form. And that's why Crimson and Clover is the best of the bunch: it's nothing more than filler or a b-side, but at least he didn't write the lyrics so it's not painful to listen to him sing.

I don't give Prince accolades easily -- but that's not because I'm 'a hater , but because I'm in love with his great potential.

Another Like me -- Somewhat infectious. Goes on way too long & eventually wears out its welcome though. But not a great song. It's playful posturing -- and not the maestro variety. This is a song that could become a guilty pleasure only if couched in an album of substance. 2/4

Colonized Mind -- Totally dig the music and tonal atmosphere. I detest the ideas/philosophies in the song because they are a tad immature and superficial but act like they are profound (see Kanye). The bible stuff ("Without God it's just the blind leading the blind" ) nailed the coffin closed for me. The message is just too trite. But the song inspired some hope because I felt he was at least close to "the zone." No cigar. Give me new lyrics, an exapnsive philosophy, and story with this great music. 2/4

Wall of Berlin - Is this to redeem the awkward use of the phrase in 3121? LOL. Nope. STILL AWKWARD!!!! "She gets down like the wall of Berlin." Delivery reminds me of spoken poetry... and I'm not sure that's a good thing. Not moved by the lyrics or music much. Wanna be, but I'm not. Obviously the end has great musicianship. But to be a complete gem a song has to have a great storyline and delivery as well. 2/4

Crimson and Clover - Listen up because-- because this made me cry. It made me cry because it was soo elastic and accessible, and honest, vulnerable and loving and infecttious -- and the total genius of someone else. Hearing him sing this beautiful song after the other 3 he wrote made me miss his prior genius. It just underscored how he needs to rise to THIS level. Stop posturing and preaching and just be vulnerable and in the zone again. This is the type of rock/indie rock I'd like to hear from him. 4/4 but the credit goes to the Tommy James & the Shondells

4ever -- After Crimson and Clover opened me up and made my nerves/emotions raw for something affective. luckily I get to hear 4ever. Like the above it is honest and vulnerable. No posturing. Just genuine delicate sentiment reminiscent of some of his great works. It really moved me. I thought it was cute and fun and real and sweet ... I could listen to it over and over again. Music and lyrics complete. I can definitely see that being a hit -- esp. if he markets his new sound as indie rockish. 4/4

Not that he's asking me, but my opinion, these are ok, the production is much better. I dig the grittier rock sound, I like the clarity, and how all the instruments sound nice clear & sharp, especially the drums & guitar.
To me the best one is “Colonized Mind”, mostly for the atmosphere, and general feel.

Finally listening to these (thanks to whoever posted the legal link to the radio station it was on yesterday). All I have to say is these tracks ae HOT! Wow. Can't wait to hear the whole album. Very cool stuff. I love that he's decided to let the indie station play these. Prince has always been an indie fave, from way back in the day. He's been getting play from Chicago's alt-rock station WXRT since the early days.

Try as I might I can't seem to shake the feeling that these new songs aren't that good. "4ever" and "Berlin Wall" sound like Musicology leftovers in search of hooks. Although I can't get enough of "Colonized Mind" and "There's Never Be...", the remaining tracks are just sort of bland.
