Prince said in a recent interview that he 's not interrested in releasing new Music anymore!

Source:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/a...WHlZCVEhkF

In recent years, he has re-linked with major record labels like Sony and Universal Music Group to release his albums, but isn't sure any record is worth putting out in this era of piracy and illegal downloads. Though the book includes a CD, it contains no new songs, just classic hits and other songs from one of his signature jam sessions.

"Today, it's not realistic to expect to put out new music and profit from it. There's no point in trying to put new music out there and keep it from being (exploited)," he says.

>>>>

When i read this ...i read CLEARLY that Prince wants to Make lot of money with his music...New Music is not his 1st priority
This summer Prince visited a lot of Majors to sell one of his new Album....but his avidity for £££$$$$ stopped the process for releasing something new!!

THIS IS INDEED VERY VERY BAD NEWS...Prince is not interresing in New Musics....this is a Pity....so unfortunately there is a strong possibility no to see a new Album from Prince in 2009 & + !

...i personally love the remixes of his songs...they are good....but as far as the statement goes...i agree...people don't realize that prince is on another level with the music...some people can't forget the past...the future is more important right now...the exploited part is so true too...people chop it all up and become fickle on the themes...some people out here DO fully understand and appreciate where credit is do....prince has music...i think he just doesn't want his "babies"...mistreated.....mzsexybaby sexy

I can understand his point to an extent...He does do this because he enjoys it, but like us all, if this is how he makes his money, then heck yeah, I would want 2 be paid 2! There is a TON of illegal music being thrown around out there. But, I hope he finds a way to sell again. I would hate for this to be the end of new music from Prince.

Prince,of all people, should know that TOURING is where the real money is anyway.I don't know why he obsesses so much over things like Youtube and illegal downloads.Smart artists already realize that people don't buy CDs like they used to and that there are other ways to make money.

I remember in the 90s,Prince seemed genuinely thrilled with the Internet and all the possibilities it created. He kept saying that "record companies are done with",that he could sell his music on-line without a record label, blah blah blah.Funny how he is now singing a different tune (no pun intended).I guess now HE is feeling what the record companies are going through, lol.

Somehow the situation of illegal downloading will have a solution...If not...Music in general could be smothered by the idea that other careers' will be more profitable.
If Music becomes a hobby...the world will suffer.
Between Music and Television...I couldn't live without music. Life would be sooooo boring.
And although there is so much music 2 hear already, that's been around...There are future musicians and singer's that need 2 be heard. cool

I don't believe he's done with new music but I think he's in a weird state of not knowing what to do with music right now, especially since he's put himself in this anti-internet box that I wish he'd get out of. In any event, something will happen that will make us happy, I'm sure of it.

Sad thing is we have a lot of buzzards on this site that would be thrilled to see Prince stop making new music. They think they'll get some music from the vault instead but I'm sure that Prince would laugh in their faces and say "HELL NO HEHEHEHEHE"! lol Wait, he might do a new master of Sign O The Times or Lovesexy: The JW Remix to make those fans happy. evillol

I´d prefer if he took some time before releasing something rushed, like Planet Earth. Some time can be a couple, three years and then come back with something really worthy.

I don´t want him to stop releasing new music though, not when your last album
has been PE wink that is not a proper career ender! mad

eek On one hand it is surprising and on the other it isn't. He said he was going to take a year off after London to study the bible, and he was partying hard for a while. Maybe he is just getting started on that quest. You never know he may be content now or the music bug will/or is going to bite his butt and get him going again. That's whats so great about Prince, he is totally unpredictable. I can not fathom the idea of the music just stopping in his brain. sad Love and peace.

I think Prince is intimately aware that live performance is where the money is.

I don't think he's saying he's not interested in releasing new music. I think he's saying that, aware that there's no money in it, and that it's virtually impossible (no pun intended) to keep other people from using his product without permission, he's just not sure where he's headed.

And that's okay. I mean...he's not the only one facing an uncertain future these days.

Piracy isn't the only reason Prince, or any other real musician for that matter, can't make a profit. It's the general public's bad taste and love for shit hop, not to mention the labels and radio stations shoving it and only it down people's throats. I've noticed Prince putting at least one sellout song on each of his recent albums hoping the general public would get into him. On the last album, it was "Mr. Goodnight", on the one before that, it was "Incense and Candles", and on the one before that, it was "Illusion, Pimp, Circumstance" or whatever the hell that shit's called. If he ever wanted to be mainstream again in this day in age, he would have to release full albums of nothing but that type of bullshit. I'd rather see him do like all the other funk artists of the past and retire with dignity and pride rather than sellout.

As for piracy and illegal downloads, I'm all for them. Since labels and radio stations refuse to play anything except shit hop, the more music illegally downloaded, the less money in their pockets. I hope it continues till they all go bankrupt and dammitt the governement better not bail them out. lol

Thing was he HAD a good model and destroyed it because everyone else got the clue as well (though the major labels have yet to do anything). I have yet to see another artist to offer what he did on his site. I really don't know what his issue is, but it seems like it's all about the biggest bang for his buck and $$$, $$$ and more $$$.

These days, I view Prince as a sell out in terms of how he chooses to put his music out there. If he really was concerned about the money, I can think of at least a dozen ways he can make bank...

-Remaster and rerelease his old catalog. Really it's all what most people want.
-Put back up his website
-Cull from his vault
-Stop the bootleggers (if there are any) by beating them at their own game and releasing better quality versions of live performances.
-Um how about a compilation that goes over his material after WB?
-Stop treating avid fans and casual fans with disdain

I can´t imagine that Prince doesn´t interest in Music. He spends his entire life in music, he puts aside many feelings
"...Don't play me
I'm over 30 & I don't smoke weed
I put my ass away & music I've played
aint the type of stereo U're tryin to feed
Don't play me
Don't play me
I use proper English & I'm straight
I'm in the news again for paying dues my friend
And not the type of ganda U prop in my way
Don't play me
Don't play me
I've been to the mountain top & it aint what U say
Don't play me ..."

One more thing. Wasn't this part of the interview taken from when Prince was talking to USA Today about the 21 Nights book? I'm at work so I don't have time to look up the link to that interview but I think we might be making something out of nothing here cause there may be more to this.
