I can't stand religious preaching in any form.

"George Bush says he speaks to god every day, and christians love him for it. If George Bush said he spoke to god through his hair dryer, they would think he was mad. I fail to see how the addition of a hair dryer makes it any more absurd."

lol

thought I would add politics to the taboo subject matter at hand!!

No. His sprituality in his music is one the reason Prince's music is so unique. He is an artist and sprituality is part of his life. Why is in an issue to sing and write about something that is important to you? Why can't he share that? Some people will love his message and some will not. That's the way the world works. That does not mean he has keep his mouth shut and only write what people want him to write about. It's like people don't want pop stars to have their own belifs.

nod Here's an example:

One nite alone Disc 2 Anna Stesia

I heard some of y'all singing the chorus the first time
But I need everybody singing the chorus
How many of y'all believe in God?
How many of U worship God?
How many of U know how God wants 2 be worshiped?
And that's where the agreement falls down, right?
20 churches in a one mile radius
Everybody's at different churches worshiping different ways
Oh we should champion our diversity, huh
We should champion our similarities
Not our differences
We should meet on a higher level
Instead of looking at white, black, rich and poor
Young, old
Differences, differences, diversity
Let's meet, let's meet somewhere higher
Rainbow children, U know what I'm talkin' about
NPG Music Club, put your hand up
NPG Music Club, they in the good seats
Now if y'all wanna be down here with us, U gotta join the club
But look at'cha, U're up high, U're up high
Now I need 2 hear your voices in that same aspect - high
I wanna hear strong, high voices singing:
Love is God, God is love
Girls and boys love God above
Can U do that?
Now I played 4 U, can U do that 4 me before I go home?
Everybody, show 'em what to do
(refrain) {repeated by audience}
Sing it y'all
Sing it like U mean it, come on band
Clap your hands, somebody
Renato, let's give Candy some
Candy, toot a little bit
That's the groove, y'all, that's the groove
That's how we going home 2night - in harmony and in love

Rise up, just talking about 2 words
I said rise up, 2 words, talking about going higher
Said rise up, if U with me out there, sing it now
Rise up, oh Lord
Upstairs, if U up high, sing
(Rise up) {repeated}
Pray 4 the children, U've got 2 (rise up)
U got 2 (rise up)

Thank U L.A., good night

and there is nothing wrong with what he was saying there either imo

i like his spiritual message cause sometimes that word is what i may need in my life at a given moment. or it's the same with any gospel song.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I absolutely love that speech from Anna Stesia but it has nothing to do with the spiritual message. I love how he starts off by saying that we shouldn't concentrate on our differences but instead champion our similarities. Then in the next breath he's saying, haha, look at all you suckers up in the bad seats, you're not in our club, come and join our club and you get good seats.

It always cracks me up, you gotta love our little Prince and his consistency. lol

No after all The Word, Beautiful,Loved and Blessed and Get On The Boat on 3121 may be preachy songs with a message...but Prince preaches in style cool
Everybody's looking 4 the ladder
Everybody wants salvation of the soul
The steps U take are no easy road
But the reward is great
4 those who want 2 go

'preaches' - i dont care for that much, but singing about his beliefs is okay with me as long as the music is good and the lyrics are well written.

It bothers me he won't make up his mind. Saint or Sinner Saint or Sinner Saint or Sinner Saint or Sinner.....
We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced
when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

First Verse The Father (God)

I'm not a woman
I'm not a man
I am something that you'll never understand

I'll never beat u
I'll never lie
And if you're evil I'll forgive u by and by

Second Verse The Son (Jesus)

I'm not your lover
I'm not your friend
I am something that you'll never comprehend

No need 2 worry
No need 2 cry
I'm your messiah and you're the reason why

The 3rd is The Holy Spirit

You're just a sinner I am told
Be your fire when you're cold
Make u happy when you're sad
Make u good when u are bad

I'm not a human
I am a dove
I'm your conscious
I am love

All I really need is 2 know that
U believe

It didn't bother me at all back in the days when he was mainly talking about his own, personal form of spirtuality (even though I am a non-believer). It was clear his message was unique and not just regurgitation of religious dogma.

Since the JW thing though, his spiritual message (if I can put it that way) has lost all that sponteneity and vibrancy. He just spiels out a load of stuff that someone else has written. It's not that I mind him having a religious viewpoint and talking about it, I just think it has effected the quality of his work and has removed the sparkle from his lyrics. His lyrics have become dull and staid...
