Well, if you really want to know, the name of God is not Jehova...the J wasnt even introduced to the English language till around the 11th century A.D. If you go back to the original Hebrew, the name of God is יהוה (Yud-heh-Vuv-Heh)..which can not be pronounced. People tried to translate יהוה and they came up with Jehova. Just thought I would share

U know Im a great believer in God without religion and it dosent bother me either that he calls God Jehovah or that he preaches in his songs. To each their own I say. We all call god many different names...God ,Jehovah, Allah, Great Spirit etc, but what it boils down to is that we all believe in a "Higher Power" and if u want to shout it from the mountain tops....or in Prince's case sing it in ure songs...Blessed Be To U
No one is making us listen to his songs, so I guess the point is if u dont like it....don't listen lol

And well said Miss Dig hug

Just to let you know Allah is not God in the christian religion. Muslim's believes in Allah.

Whats ure point? Its still the name of God to them is it not? Im not talking simply about Christian religions here....hence the reason for the Great Spirit name... biggrin

Thank you, I know about the Hebrew (YHWH or JHVH) and the Tetragrammaton. By using the name "Jehovah" the New World Translation have held closely to the original language texts. I think I'll leave it at that.

I always thought that יהוה looked like 777 and that's why Prince did all the perfume stuff on that date 7-7-7 last year. His houses name is "77" and in the beginning of Reflections he says "Two sevens together, like time indefinite". "time indefinite is all through the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures.

anyone????

Prince's love for God has gone hand in hand with his music. Prince sings about different things throughout the songs, yet simultaneously, I know that God's love and grace is within him. cool

I don't believe his music would touch me in the same way if he took out all the religious references from his songs. I look at it as his way of expressing spirituality - whether he calls it Christianity, Jehovas Witness or whatever doesn't bother me at all.

Allah is the standard Arabic word for 'God.' While the term is best known in the West for its use by Muslims as a reference to God, it is used by Arabic-speakers of all Abrahamic faiths, including Christians and Jews, in reference to "God".

Yes, it bothers me. Instead of believing in outdated Bronze Age fairy tales, Prince could be opening our eyes, through music, to the beauty of the universe as revealed through evidence and experience. Faith is not based on evidence, otherwise you wouldn't call it faith, you'd simply call it evidence.

Knowing that Prince handicaps himself with ridiculous beliefs that have slaughtered and shackled millions for thousands of years is sad. Instead of being on the cutting edge of thought, he's stuck in the dark ages. He could be liberating us from servitude to the old corrupted male-centric power structures instead of contributing to their continuation.

Lucky his music rocks, I guess.

Oh, man pls don't let this become one of those nasy threads where everyone stats fight and throwing insults at each other. Doen't it bother me partly. He doesn't have the right to tell others whtat to beleive, repect everyone not everyone beleives the same. I mean unless a religious check is done when they check for camra and cells. If he stopped controdicting himself, then no. If je loves everyone than respect all religions.

I'm glad u shared Liza. I had forgotten all about that -woulda been useful elsewhere. Gosh, now I'm thinking of that Yaweh Ben Yaweh dude. eek

well back to the topic, it doesn't bother me that Prince preaches and believes what he understands to be the word of God but it would irk me a tad if his music was in contradiction to what he preached and believed. I think its a case of good twin bad twin. LOL

Haha! Well, anti-theism became a passion of mine after reading Richard Dawkins's "The God Delusion", a fantastic read. I heartily recommend it!

It really does bother me that so many public figures, such as Prince, believe in something that so preys on gullability and superstition. The universe as shown through our instruments and telescopes is so awesome and beautiful, it makes a mockery of the tiny universe of Jehovah, Thor, and their fictional friends. Liberating your mind from these primitive beliefs is so uplifting. Free your mind.

Luckily, such beliefs are waning. But we must be careful to keep up the good fight of educating the public about the frontiers of knowledge, experience, exploration, and science. People should know the heights of happiness, morality, wonder and reverence - far higher than religion - that these things allow one to reach.

But I must add my 2 cents to what someone above said: At least Prince isn't a Scientologist!
