I'll probably watch about 1 or 2 acts and then shut off the computer. I don't see too many names on that list that would be of my interest, they are more or less for a younger crowd, but my son likes Portishead, Mark Ronson, M.I.A., and Little Brother, so I'll have to let him know they are performing. . [Edited 4/24/08 10:27am] BEWARE!!!! M.I.A are not music!! They are tuneless noise who shout about rubbish. mia supported prince on the 28th of august at the o2, it was so badd people were leaving!! left me with a headache for when prince came on! ugh i know what you mean. my friend is into her music and it drives me insane...he blasts her noise in his car so never drive with him anymore lol | |

Thousands gather in California desert for Coachella festival
----- at 23:33 on April 25, 2008, EDT. By Jake Coyle, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Dan Fuller, bottom, of Portand, Ore., lies down as festival goers dance around him during the first day of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS/Chris Pizzello INDIO, Calif. - Searching for an oasis of music in southern California desert, thousands gathered Friday for the opening day of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. Temperatures hovered in the relatively bearable low-30s as the notoriously hot three-day festival got under way in the desert a few hours drive southeast of Los Angeles. Rogue Wave was the first act to hit the main stage, where Tegan and Sara, the Raconteurs, the Verve and Jack Johnson were to play later. "It's a clear day," said Coachella founder and organizer Paul Tollett, smiling from his backstage trailer. "You can see the mountains." Tollett, who heads concert promoter Goldenvoice, reported no major problems as the ninth annual festival got started. Approximately 60,000 fans were expected to attend Friday, fanning out across acres of grounds that included two outdoor stages and three concert tents. Some came for the day from L.A., while others laid out sleeping bags in the camping grounds. Not all were roughing it, though. For $4,000, VIP camping arrangements were available, complete with candlelit, air-conditioned tents. Lydia Johnson, 21, left San Jose with her friends at 4 a.m. to make it to Coachella for the first time. "I love it," said Johnson. "It's cool to see bands I've never heard of. I like discovering new bands and wandering around." Also to play Friday were Vampire Weekend, the National, Serj Tankian and Aesop Rock. The weekend's big headliner, Prince, is playing Saturday evening. The unofficial kickoff to the summer's festival season, Coachella is one of the season's biggest attractions for music fans and bands alike. "We've done a lot of festivals and this is a very well-run festival," Sara Quin, of the sibling rock duo Tegan and Sara said backstage before their set. "It's a clean, comfortable, laid-back festival." The back-to-back scheduling of Tegan and Sara and Jack White's Raconteurs also afforded the Quin sisters a chance to meet White for the first time. White's other band, the White Stripes, covered Tegan and Sara's "Walking with a Ghost." "I want to meet him because it was an honour that he covered the song," said Tegan Quin. "In a weird way, it gave us a little bit of credibility in a place where we maybe didn't always have credibility." Vampire Weekend, the critically acclaimed New York band who released their debut album earlier this year, was playing their first big festival, and planned to stick around to soak it up. "We're going to hang out the whole weekend," the band's drummer, Chris Thomson, said backstage. "This is our first time at a festival and it's going to be a lot of fun. We're just going to hang out and see what the deal is." - On the Net: http://www.coachella.com/ ©The Canadian Press, 2008 Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! Cheers erupt as Prince takes Coachella stage
11:36 PM PDT on Saturday, April 26, 2008 By VANESSA FRANKO The Press-Enterprise http://www.pe.com/reports...4b4e2.html When Prince stepped onto the stage, everyone in the packed audience at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival knew they were witnessing Coachella history, and the crowd erupted into applause and cheers accordingly. The stage was filled with fog as he took it, about 25 minutes late, dressed in a flowing white suit. Festival promoter Paul Tollett said he has been wanting to get Prince to play the festival for years. At one point, Sheila E joined Prince on stage and sang her hit, "Glamourous Life." After 20 minutes of a Morris Day and Sheila E. reunion with Prince on the guitar, he launched into 1999. | |

Prince plays Coachella, covers Radiohead
By JAKE COYLE, AP Entertainnment Writer 8 minutes ago "Coachella, I am here...' Prince hit the stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival with that announcement, heralding his arrival as the much-anticipated headliner of the summer festival. Shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, Prince strutted onto the stage wearing white pants and a white shirt with glittery fringe. His performance, the centerpiece of the three-day festival, was announced only two weeks ago, immediately making an already very hip festival of 125-plus bands significantly more in-demand. And Prince knew it. "You are the coolest place on earth right now!" Prince declared to a sea of tens of thousands. Prince, who had been sought out to perform at Coachella since the festival was founded nine years ago, told the crowd that when he agreed to perform, he informed the organizers that he would not only play, but party too. True to his word, Prince then launched his band — complete with a horn section and background singers — into "Jungle Love." Morris Day came out to sing his song, while Prince strolled around the stage with his guitar. For the beginning of the show, Prince preferred to let his guitar do the talking. He also welcomed the singer and drummer Sheila E, who took the lead for a song and then joined Prince in an extended jam. Finally, Prince satisfied the crowd with a celebratory performance of "1999." His classic "Little Red Corvette" soon followed. One of the big surprises of Prince's concert was his cover of Radiohead's "Creep," which was sure to be one of Coachella's most talked-about performances. With some lyrics adjusted, a ripping guitar solo and extended falsetto crooning for a finale, Prince's "Creep" had the crowd slack-jawed. To close the set, he gave another unique take on a song not his own: the Beatles' "Come Together." He urged the audience — whom he called his "choir" — to sing "Come together, yeah" over and over. And just as trepidation was beginning to take hold in the crowd that Prince might actually leave without playing "Purple Rain," he returned to confirm that even in the desert, it could rain purple. Even after the encore, though, he came back for more. "They're telling me that we got to go, but I can't leave!" Prince shouted. He then flew through a torrid version of "Let's Go Crazy." Prince had widely been considered the one act most all concertgoers — a diverse 60,000 of indie rockers, electronica dancers and pop fans — were certain to see. And by the end of "Let's Go Crazy," Prince had seemed to put his stamp on Coachella lore. "From now on, this is Prince's house," he shouted before triumphantly strutting off stage and tossing his guitar 30 feet behind him. ___ [Edited 4/27/08 1:42am] | |

This sounds like an amazing show. I hope Prince uses this new energy in a way that increases his base as opposed to not taking advantage of the vast interest his fans have who want to be amazed again. We are all hoping that he does something that blows everyone away. I hope this time he does it right! sounds like a crowd pleasing show that was also fun for Prince Creep! Perfect lyrics for Prince playing a gig like Coachella..... When you were here before, couldn't look you in the eye. You're just like an angel, your skin makes me cry. You float like a feather, in a beautiful world I wish I was special, you're so fucking special. But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here. I don't care if it hurts, I want to have control. I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul. I want you to notice, when I'm not around. You're so fucking special, I wish I was special. But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here?. I don't belong here She's running out the door, she's running, she run, run, run, run, run. Whatever makes you happy, whatever you want. You're so fucking special, I wish I was special, but I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here, I don't belong here. | |
