That said, I am not so impressed with his version of it.....I believe the excitement about it is merely because it's an obscure song for him to cover. Nobody would have expected it!

Maybe, somebody should put on DVD.

Genesia said: Y'all just don't get it, do you? This is about conversion! This is about playing to an audience that has heard his 80s recordings (Purple Rain, most notably), but has never been to one of his concerts. He's playing to them in a place they are already...so they'll come to him next time he's on tour.
He is not going to win them playing "Family Name." If he played that, they'd be all and go home and tell people, "See? I told you Prince was a weirdo." After 30 years, he knows which side his bread is buttered on. He's just making sure it stays buttered. Exactly! Hey a thread we agree on too, lol

a couple of more things about the performance
was the horn section from Grupo Fantasma? He was really a band leader. I say this because his light show was off and the light-techs couldn't keep up with him especially when directing his band during some of the longer songs. Usually, the lights are well "choreogrphed" with the songs. At times, he was even in the dark as he sang/played. The four acts before him used a "curtain video screen" behind them where he had it raised. I imagine those of you (not me) who have been to First Ave, Paisley Park, or Glam Slam know what I'm talking where he has his songs are set and he's going create it as he goes. Those of us (me included) who have only seen his major tour only catch a glimpse during a song or two.

how funny is it that he couldn't sing "I'm a creep....I'm a wierdo"
totally gives new meaning to the song and if you record the audio and then play it back on a nice stereo system - it works as a totally new song with a different groove and meaning the song meant a lot to me a long time ago when i was young and depressed to hear Prince do it and make a new groove out of it is excellent btw, they finally removed that excellent clip of Creep.....'due to terms of use violation' ??

Agree... the same synth/metal energy that was a "Computer Blue" or "Sister" from the Lovesexy Tour should have been applied.

While the unexpectedness of it definitely adds something, I think people are mainly digging the performance. He also covered the Beatles and in the past he's covered Zeppelin and even Elvis. All those are pretty unexpected for Prince, but they didn't get nearly the buzz. "What kind of fuck ending is that?"

I just saw a few youtube clips of his performance that were outstanding. I really like 'Prince and the Band' even with Prince not singing. The rap is tight. 'Creep' is a breathtaking show case of his falsetto. I hope everyone gets a chance to view this even after it gets removed from youtube.

I thought 'Creep' was lame, didn't even come close to the original! Also, him altering the lyrics (he didn't sing 'I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo, what the fuck am I doing here?') really sucks, he should stop doing that!

He turned this average tune into something so much more emotional and powerful. Take the piss ?

Prince is getting praises from all over the world for his performance. I liked this snippet:
Three weeks ago, as if to acknowledge a spark was needed, Prince was added as the Saturday night headliner, boosting Coachella to an über-event and confirming it as America's best rock festival. Though Prince is a veteran showman, he's such a dynamic and inventive musician, steeped in funk and the blues, his shows usually transcend era, especially when he flashes his considerable skills as a guitarist in front of his powerhouse band.
