I dont think the artists go in thinking I have to upstage last years performance but try to give a great show. No one will ever top Prince's performance.

As a performer, any artist should try and perform 2 his own standards.
Last year.....is OVA.

I'll watch it too but there is no way in hell it's going to come even anywhere near close to being as phenominal as Prince's was last year.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I've been a football fan for 11 years.
I've sat through about 8 SuperBowls.

When Prince was the headliner, that was the first time:

1) My attention was kept the entire time
AND
2) I enjoyed it a lot
AND
3) I didn't think of the halftime show as an interruption of the game itself.

Actually, I was looking more forward to see Prince than the game itself, even though I've been following the Colts for a couple of years leading up to that. I even had a dream the night before that I was in line for Prince concert tickets eek that was my reaction...

I basically saw the HalfTime show as a chance to see Prince do what he does best. Put on one heck of a show and play some of his best songs. My expectations were high, but he surpass them before I had no idea what I'd be in for.

When he did Purple Rain, that was basically the first time I saw him do that song in recent memory. Not just the sound of it, but the presentation of it (when the sheet came up, he was larger than life, a legendary figure in the industry)... I didnt even know that it was raining and it appeared purple until after the fact (our reception sucked).

Having said all that, I don't think anyone will be able to put on a show like that that will meet the three things that Prince's show had.

I mean, I'm sure that this year's act will do a good job and I will enjoy it to a degree (even though I haven't heard of them b4 the annoucement)... but they won't have that same stage presence.

And of course, I'm all sentimental about the show because the next day, I came here thumbs up!
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

this year will b better than last year cause i'll have no xpecations of a artist 2 prove 2 the masses that's he's moved past the 80's and wreck the hell out of a per4mance ..but no ..it was the same ole same ole and confirmed others around me that prince was a washup has been that can't escape the 80's ...

so going in2 tom petty's per4mance i will enjoy it more cause of no xpectations..oh wait who's playing again? the fucking patriots and the fucking giants?

oh hell 2 the naw!!! ..i'll watch SVU on USA network instead big grin
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The performance by Petty will not be as captivating as the Prince performance. Petty is a straight ahead singer guitar player. He does not play to the audience nearly the way Prince does.

I am a fan of Petty so I am looking forward to it. The really smart thing Petty is doing is capitalizing on it by putting tickets to his summer tour on sale on Feb 4th!! Now that is good marketing.

As a Bears fan, I can say that the only thing I remember about the game last year was Prince's performance. I remember Devin Hester running back the opening kick, and then everything else is kinda fuzzy.

I remember seeing Peyton Manning holding a trophy, but I think was the second place trophy. We won that game didn't we???

I'm sure Tom Petty will be a step below Prince, but I think Prince's performance last year has raised the bar and I have some anticipation for this year as well. I like Tom Petty's music anyway so I'll be curious to see how it goes.

Hopefully, there will be more high-profile Prince performances in the near future.
