Thank u for the question. IMO the scriptures has certainly clarified this whole situation for me. I am confident in my support of Prince. My prayer is that this issue will be resolved very quickly. We must rightfully protect that which belongs to us. Peace

OH DEAR!! surely your not suggesting that god himself is actually arsed about music copyright! thats the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. God can't even get round to helping starving, homeless, terminally ill, or abused people, just to mention a few of his defects, I'm sure a few bit torrents won't upset him now will they.

Not to mention that he doesn't exist anyway, and the bible is a load of made up crap. You do know that Santa Clause is made up too don't you? And the magical chocolate flying teapot?

I really can't do with people preaching the virtues of god at me, when he (if he actually existed) has so much to answer for.
[Edited 11/12/07 5:30am]

lol NO, I don't think that's why they were trying to say.
Preaching? jeesh! someone says something about how prince was supposed to be studying the bible and someone else posts relevant quotes from the bible and suddenly he's (she's) preaching.
good lord (not preaching) but some of yall got your undies in a serious BUNCH.

Parables are designed to be applied to everyday life circumstances/situations.
Once again, I am thankful for the question, it afforded me to search the scriptures, consequently giving me the clarification I needed.

pirate bay is not oinks pink palace, its not a music community. its just a pirate site ran by people who are "anti-copyright", and includes stuff like software. it's not defensible at all. you cant even get much music on it anyway, only really really popular stuff

lol That's what I've been saying all along as well. Even if there were chapters and verses in the Bible about copyright infringement and freedom of speech, Prince would twist it around in his mind so that he would be convinced that whatever the bible would have to say about this would not apply to him. He thinks that because his name is Prince, he can do whatever he wants. rolleyes rolleyes

So low under the radar it has 2.2 MILLION members

The Pirate Bay thrives on publicity like this

Every legal challenge against it has failed

They also make around $75,000 a week in advertising revenue

Yeah,
I apologize for that.

Since the word "pirate" was on the thread title,
this was the closest I could come to posting anything on this thread.
My life experience to anything pirate
is pretty limited.
And now that I've discovered the org & spend a hell of alot less time out outside,
I can't imagine that this situation is gonna improve any time soon.

As has already been expressed in this thread, and as I thought would happen, by Prince actually naming The Pirate Bay he has just opened up the illegal download debate.

In view of this an e-mail has been sent to the Web Sheriff asking him to serve on Prince a "cease and desist" notice on the grounds that Prince is now telling people where to go to download his material.

The e-mail reads as follows:

Dear Web Sheriff

Having read that the musician known as Prince is to sue The Pirate Bay, I would be very grateful if you would please now serve a "cease and desist" notice on Prince. The notice will be based on the grounds that by naming The Pirate Bay he has now made it public knowledge as to where his music can be illegally downloaded.

I must admit that by reading various comments made on some fan websites it is fairly obvious that most people were unaware of the existence of The Pirate Bay. Sadly this has now changed and I fear that many people will now be seeking out this and similar website’s to download bootleg material.

I should therefore be grateful if you please serve a "cease and desist" notice on Prince with the request that he stops naming websites on which his music can be freely and illegally downloaded.

Many thanks

So it is okay for them to make money off of other people's work and not compensate the owners of the music and software they steal.

That isnt what I said at all, in fact, if you read my previous posts you will see that I am totally in favour of protecting a persons intellectual property

The problem you have with The Pirate Bay is this, its not illegal in Sweden where they are based, nor in several other european countries

They don't actually have any copyright or trademark material on their servers

The people who actually commit the offences are those with infringing material in their possession

Until the laws are changed over torrent sites The Pirate Bay will remain up and running

Where this whole sorry saga falls apart is "representatives" are trying to tell people what they can do with material over which they own the copyright

This is more than a spat about infringing copyrights, its about freedom of expression and freedom of speech

Btw, there is a very simple way to shut down torrent sites, even in Sweden, you just need to think outside of the box to do it

Its amazingly simple and if someone wants to pay me an extortionate amount of money I will tell them how to do it legally biggrin

suing them is one thing. citing pirate bay's name in the media before a cease and desist is successfully complied with is just good business for pirate bay and a shot in the foot for prince. i'd never heard of pirate bay before this week. shrug

I totally agree, putting out a press release globally with The Pirate Bay mentioned in it was an act of monumental folly

Best advert they could have had and probably good for another 100,000 or so hits on the site

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.....

Again I am thankful for question. One should be able to direct another indiviual to bibical scripture...in this case God's law recognizes Intellectual Property Rights/Copyright Infringement Laws. Scripture tells us to obey God's Law as well as the Man's Law.
Matt.Chap.22v20:21 reads...And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this? They said to Him, "Ceasar's." And He said to them, Render therefore to Ceasar the things that are Ceasar's, and to God the thngs that are God's. A righteous man has no fear of the law. As it stands...It's against the law.

If you head over to pirate bay and click on the legal link and look at all the threats and who they are from, I don't think they even blinked when lil old P sent out his briefs.

When you're getting threats from Microsoft, Dreamworks and Warner Bros. Prince and his whining probably didn't even raise an eyebrow.

If you read PB's responses to the threats, some are kinda funny.

Example, one of their responses to one of Apple's demands:

"Instead of simply recommending that you sodomize yourself with a retractable baton, let me recommend a specific model- the ASP21". The previous lawyers
tried to use a cheaper brand, but it broke during the action."

I also like their responses to Rabbit Comics, Racing & to enya.com

Right, like mr. nelson will singelhandedly tear down a torrent site no media conglemarate has succeeded in before.
The only thing he manages to do with this, is gain pirate bay even more attention. Coupled to the thousands of fans he pissed off, many of them will now probably run to PB and downlaod as much crap as they can.
Mission completely failed.
