I think the IS alot of negativity here on the org. I dont post here as often as I used to because of it. I feel a real lack of maturity here as opposed to other boards. It gets very old. I like to have fun, but theres alot of useless nonsense here. I think labeling fans certain things because of their enthusiasm is wrong, though opinions should be able to be expressed, it can be done in a more polite way. Being honest is one thing, but its how you say it. Being critical of P is another. If you dont like something he does, no big deal. I wouldnt expect anyone to, but again theres a way to say it.

Truth of the matter is this website has a major reputation for being negative when it comes to Prince. I've talked to many Prince fans over the years who have told me that they either avoid this site or they only check it for news and nothing more because of the amount of negative responses from fans here.

Personally, if I felt this was nothing more than a Prince fan site diguised as an anti-Prince site, I would have left years ago. There is a lot of negativity here but it is what it is. prince.org is like being a Prince fan in general. Either you'll go along with the ride, good or bad, or you'll leave. Unless something really bizarre happens, I'm staying put. Simple as that.

There's good here, there's bad here. Sometimes the pendulum swings a bit far to either side, but that's how it goes. Prince is no god, he deserves to be knocked down a few pegs some days.

Personally, I would not have stuck around either if this site really was as far to the anti-Prince side as certain memebers of the fanbase seem to think it is, and you know I would've left in a second if it was of the officially-sanctioned ass-licking variety too.

I agree with this response, I don't like being called sheep. I like Prince's music and I enjoy coming here to share/discuss it with others who enjoy the same. I believe that is why the org was created. I could however do without others calling him disrespectful names like c**t etc (those words are not used in polite society so why hide behind your computer screen and use them here?)

You stole my words!

Yes, people, open your eyes! See how some of you felt when you heard some of the lyrics in the PFUnk song? And no one was named!

Now, imagine Prince was taking a picture of you (yes YOU!) then putting it on the 3121 website with your name written underneath. THEN he would add a text below saying: "Hey, look everybody, [name] is my ugliest fan, I think he/she's gay, he has not balls/no life, is really stupid, has no dress sense, is crap at his/her job, I think he/she should do things like this and not like that, etc. THEN, he would sprinkle some obscure unverified rumors about you (yes YOU!) on top the top. For, example, that last week you were seen cheating on your husband / or wife, with your own brother/sister!

THEN, people around you would become very suspicious, gradually more distant and eventually would stop talking to you and start talking behind your back.

Now, after all this - and please be honest with yourselves- wouldn't you (yes YOU!) at least feel like doing something about it, I mean ANYTHING to stop it? Would YOU not react?

So, the real debate should be this one:

Since when expressing yourself on the internet has allowed (I'm talking about moral rules here - not legal ones) anyone to become a racist judgmental narrow minded offensive being?

Everyone is entitled to a bit of dignity. And yes, even on the internet!

Think about it.

A) Such comments wouldn't bother me unless there was something to them. If I know it's not true, providing it's not actually libelous, why should I bother even acknowledging them?
B) Anything the people around Prince have done to him/because of him/in reaction to him is his doing. If friends, family, employees, and band members are avoiding him or talking about him, that says more about the sort of people he chooses to associate with and the sort of person he is than it does about the behaviour of fans.
C) Why the hell would Prince post a pic of me and comment on it? lol

There are areas on this planet where the word "cunt" is used as frequently as you probably say "like".

omg Squirrel to each his own... razz
imo it is very disrespectful to name call anyone with that word in public and I don't use the word "like" frequently either. I'm sure Prince does not want anyone calling him c**t.

Then he shouldn't act like one, should he?

I do see your point in this post. But no matter how hard someone may try to control what is said about them...you cannot control people's freedom of speech and expression (And yes I agree some people go way to far in thier language with that 1).

But People who have half a brain and had some home training courtesy of thier momma would know that

1 Dont believe in half of what u see and anything that u hear
- if u hear it or see it...reasearch it! Find out the truth for urself

2. Rumors can NEVER be trusted and should be treated as garabage

3. True friends never tell secrets..and all others who do should fall.

4. Always strive to have civility in ur language.

Having said that I believe that a mature, self confident celebrity could take what rumors said about them in stride because they know who they are ...and keeps thier circle of friends tight and numbered.

Being a celebrity u should be stronger than the rest of us. I dont know of one celebrity that didnt have thier own fan bases calling them out or people in general saying things about them. It comes along with the territory.

And even though some so called fans are rude and totally wrong..thier is a majority that does it for good clean fun (ie: Remember when he wore that outfit at the awards??! Lawd, Ill never forget that 1 lol )

But also if he tried to name all of those who dogged him in his song PFUnk ...it would be 10 hours long wink

I never even joined the NPGMC. As soon as I heard there was a fee to join, I immediately said "NEXT!!". Prince already makes money from his albums and concerts and I be damned if I'm going to pay to find out the latest news on when an album is coming out or if a concert is coming to my area. That news should be for free, especially if he wants those things to sell.

Also, after hearing people here on the org talk about how everyone over there was a bunch of koolaid drinking, ass kissing, loony toons, and how anyone with a different opinion was banned, there's no way in hell I would have joined. lol

yeah, I resisted for a long time.
But when P and Tamar were starting their mini tour... I just knew he would come to Detroit, and I didn't want nosebleed seats like in the Musicology tour (even though I stood outside in the freaking cold for 5 hours... still got nosebleed seats.)
so I joined to get a chance at better seats. focking Prince... no show in detroit and then he closed down NPGMC after like 3 months. I never went to a single forum because I KNEW I would be banned. I have always been very critical of the newly divorced wife and supportive/sympathetic to Mayte. So I knew not to bother with the forums.

i have to disagree about the fee. The $25 was beyond worth it for the concert benefits. the forum section is what ruined the site badly.

But wait, didn't they have overseers that made sure that barely a disparaging word was ever uttered about his majesty? One would think that the forums would have been a big hit and the first thing to return when he launched 3121.com. I wonder why it wasn't resurrected? hmmm

There R more "haters" 4 sure, and I've been saying that, albeit in different terms, 4 a while now.

Prince, like many (but not most) humans, is a complex person, and when folks start judging someone they've never really met, it is bound 2 be inaccurate. Actions can be misinterpreted just as words R, and that's what we R seeing right now.

All one has 2 do is look at all of the "Prince should've stuck with Mani/Mayte/Whoever" threads, or the "is his hair real?"/""did he really write that?"/"does he care about his fans?" threads.

I have said it before, and I'll say again here: All I care about is his music, his message, and of course, his well being.

He not only influenced my music and lyrics, but he echoed and paralleled my tastes, beliefs, and philosophies.

The "Prince: Music & More" section turned into mostly gossip and uneducated or presumed conclusions, and the "music" part of that faded dramatically in the last few years.

I've suggested that the Org separate the conjecture, hearsay, etc. from the music by creating a dedicated music section.

It could just be the nature of the growing activity on the internet as a whole, and because of Prince's growing popularity, but hey... it got a little hectic.

I used 2 hope that he didn't read the ORG, because it has 2 be at least somewhat debilitating 2 any artist 2 read the rampant gossip and hearsay, but I've known 4 a while that he does read it.

U would all agree with me if U really think about what is was like before the internet, when Prince not only didn't care about what the labels thought about his output, but didn't know what the general public would write about it and his personal life.

I'm liberal minded 2 an extent, when it comes 2 freedom of speech and such, but U have 2 admit, it has become sick in the wrong way...

Peace.

You're a strange one! wink

You list your fan level as "Enthusiast" yet you seem to love coming here baiting as much as possible, whilst blaming everyone else in the process.

Its like the thread you started in the concert section a few weeks back. There we had a bunch of honest fans, feeling aggrieved trying to get refunds for their £235 VIP seats which ended up restricted view, and you decided, that you should start a thread to tell them all to stop moaning and worship the fact that Prince was in town.

You had nothing to contribute to help them. No reason to be there, and no reason to dismiss what some people believed was a legitimate complaint. Instead you waded in like some upstart and told them all to shut up. Not just in response form, but you even started a thread to tell them to shut up.

If thats what being a fam is about, god help us all.

And I agree one thousand percent although your liberal use of 2s, 4s and U could give you a bit of a credibility problem. lol As I stated on another thread, I believe that freedom of speech is precious and should be used judiciously.

It's obvious from reading this board and others that not everyone agrees.

Question...what if the object of such derision is Michael Jackson or even George W. Bush? I've seen them skewered in many forums as well. It that okay?

Critique is one thing but oftentimes the redicule is over the top. If it bothers me, I can only imagine how debilitating it is for the target of these unkind comments. What solutions do you suggest??? Separating the forums won't stop it.

I doubted it when you suggested that he reads the fansites and sadly, I see that you weren't kidding. I can only suggest that since he likes to read I'd be willing to share my book list with him, I'm sure he'd find anything on it more uplifting than reading the fansites.

Now I think I'll log off now and take my own advice. nod
