I think the IS alot of negativity here on the org. I dont post here as often as I used to because of it. I feel a real lack of maturity here as opposed to other boards. It gets very old. I like to have fun, but theres alot of useless nonsense here. I think labeling fans certain things because of their enthusiasm is wrong, though opinions should be able to be expressed, it can be done in a more polite way. Being honest is one thing, but its how you say it. Being critical of P is another. If you dont like something he does, no big deal. I wouldnt expect anyone to, but again theres a way to say it.

I agree with this response, I don't like being called sheep. I like Prince's music and I enjoy coming here to share/discuss it with others who enjoy the same. I believe that is why the org was created. I could however do without others calling him disrespectful names like c**t etc (those words are not used in polite society so why hide behind your computer screen and use them here?)

It seems to be that if you say anything positive about Prince, you're immediately derided as being a 'fam' - that seems to stand for simple, stupid, niaive or something similar!

I came on here for news and information and initially to read and share people's experiences from the O2 in London. Most of the comments then were really positive. However, I feel slightly intimidated by some of the Orgers and their comments at times. There also seems to be a 'snobbishness' with some people who think they're more 'authentic' than others. I still love reading the threads here, and some are really funny, but it all seems to get a bit 'heavy' at times.

Anyway, still glad to be part of the fun..... biggrin

I can see that there are musicians that have personal opinions about the music, that are purely constructive criticizm in their opinions, However, some of the posts, are purely childish personal attacks on Prince's character.

There are a few of us that will stand up to this, because of the sincere love that we have. Even in a marriage, communication, can become a problem if the way we express ourselves isn't respectful.

If a member doesn't like something that Prince says or does...They can simply say just that...

So instead of saying that, "Planet Earth is the weakest form of musical drivel I've ever heard, no wonder Prince gave it away because no one but the hardest of his die hard fans would've bought it!"

I should just say that, "I don't like Planet Earth."

Sorry, entirely too passive for me! hmph!

Just because you don't like an album does not mean you are a hater, get real and check out the definition of a hater...

hate
1. to dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward; detest: to hate the enemy; to hate bigotry.
2. to be unwilling; dislike: I hate to do it.
–verb (used without object)
3. to feel intense dislike, or extreme aversion or hostility.
–noun 4. intense dislike; extreme aversion or hostility.
5. the object of extreme aversion or hostility.

—Synonyms 1. loathe, execrate; despise. Hate, abhor, detest, abominate imply feeling intense dislike or aversion toward something. Hate, the simple and general word, suggests passionate dislike and a feeling of enmity: to hate autocracy. Abhor expresses a deep-rooted horror and a sense of repugnance or complete rejection: to abhor cruelty; Nature abhors a vacuum. Detest implies intense, even vehement, dislike and antipathy, besides a sense of disdain: to detest a combination of ignorance and arrogance. Abominate expresses a strong feeling of disgust and repulsion toward something thought of as unworthy, unlucky, or the like: to abominate treachery.

wave I agree 2 the title of this thread 100%. That's the whole reason why I'm responding the threads in this "obscure" fashion I like 2 call "white-out".

And I agree with what's been said by the both of you.
This place isn't much fun anymore when the person its about is being victimized for his actions. He's not completely innocent in all this, but the people who were once fans are exaggerating this like crazy. They make it unbearable 2b here and even more difficult to speak my mind. I like this site because I could say the things I wanted about Prince in a risk-free environment (I rarely have a word to say against him 2 begin with). So I get torn to shreds because I still support Prince and listen 2 his music. This "ain't gonna stop me anyway" from doing what I do. Listen to the music and write down my thoughts wherever I can.
The worst part, I think, is the people here actually know what they're talking about and use his past against him as saying he's not such a good person. It's different than the general public where he's regarded as a weirdo. I came to learn about the music and the person it came from. So what if he's not the nicest person in the world? I've always kinda knew that, doesn't make any difference 2 me. cool

Ugh, there I go, writing lengthy posts again

I think that speaks volumes about why this site is still here. With every positive there's a negative and vice versa. I may grit my teeth when I read some things, good and bad, but it's all of that and the fact that we all can get along usually that make this website a cool place to be a part of. cool I'm proud to be a member of prince.org. smile
[Edited 11/10/07 10:35am]

I hated some of the negativity floating around here when I first joined. It was downright brutal. Then I joined NPGMC and saw all the od'ing off of Purple Kool Aid first hand and was DAMN GLAD there was the Org to come to for balance!

From my online experience concerning the world of Prince, I've learned...

People are not all alike and there's no reason on earth we should all think alike! You take the good with the bad and just have a funky good time!

Exactly. Just as long as we are respectful in how we conduct ourselves with one another.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

You stole my words!

Yes, people, open your eyes! See how some of you felt when you heard some of the lyrics in the PFUnk song? And no one was named!

Now, imagine Prince was taking a picture of you (yes YOU!) then putting it on the 3121 website with your name written underneath. THEN he would add a text below saying: "Hey, look everybody, [name] is my ugliest fan, I think he/she's gay, he has not balls/no life, is really stupid, has no dress sense, is crap at his/her job, I think he/she should do things like this and not like that, etc. THEN, he would sprinkle some obscure unverified rumors about you (yes YOU!) on top the top. For, example, that last week you were seen cheating on your husband / or wife, with your own brother/sister!

THEN, people around you would become very suspicious, gradually more distant and eventually would stop talking to you and start talking behind your back.

Now, after all this - and please be honest with yourselves- wouldn't you (yes YOU!) at least feel like doing something about it, I mean ANYTHING to stop it? Would YOU not react?

So, the real debate should be this one:

Since when expressing yourself on the internet has allowed (I'm talking about moral rules here - not legal ones) anyone to become a racist judgmental narrow minded offensive being?

Everyone is entitled to a bit of dignity. And yes, even on the internet!

Think about it.

There are areas on this planet where the word "cunt" is used as frequently as you probably say "like".

The sheer lack of knowledge about other cultures here is astounding. Cunt is a regularly used term in many other places, and doesn't have the sting there as it evidently does here. I never understood why people get so up in arms about that word. confused

Fine. You don't like it. No problem with that. But if you were to take a stroll down parts of East London for example, you fill here the word "cunt" is as many conversations as you here the word "shit" in South LA.

In areas, the swear work becomes part of everyday language.

The difference is, you are stating in a thread that you believe your choice of words should be used instead of what other people choose themselves.

No that's called being considerate of other people's views and feelings.
