If he did he sure as heck wouldn't ever play aftershows or have a website at all. The man has always been on the forefront of sticking up for artist's rights and this is no different. It may seem over the top because it's only pictures, but it's still THE LAW for pete's sake. Sites should be happy they weren't sued years ago (by anyone, including the major media sites they all rip off on a daily basis) because copyright violation carries ridiculous fines that not one of us on this forum would EVER want to pay. And that's for each infringement.
I understand and agree with points raised, but we're talking about folks who are supporting him ... without making personal financial or commercial gain..THEY are supporting HIM. Where an individual or a ccollection of people are making personal or commercial financiaal gain or seeking to decry or defame that person then fair enough... they law should be brought into force. Like you say... at the end of the day it is the law and he has the right...over the material he has copyright for. However, We are talking of a community... where people share... We are talking about his fans who understandibly like to discuss and debate his work and his life.. he is a public figure and as such he should employ tolerance and understanding of those who support him. How is merely talking about Prince on this website infringing on his property? Under US law, people have what is known as "fair use" of protected intellectual property. That means that it is legal to post pictures of Prince on a website and discuss him. What is illegal is if we sell the pictures that are posted. This website and the other Prince fan sites that I've come across are doing nothing wrong. People aren't bitching about Prince's rightfully asking that copyrighted material not be posted or traded, it's his grossly overstepping his rights people object to. Now I suggest you calm the fuck down, and put down the purple kool-aid. Consider the source! Believe me. There are more fans of Prince music than his pictures (and they don't live on the internet). He doesn't know most of the story. He's just bandwagon-ing to get a TV-Gossip show. If Prince's name wasn't in it, it would not be posted. There are a few Internet Attention Whores attempting to "spread the word about this legal battle" on other messgage boards I read, and nobody cares. Legally, if Prince could not do what he's done, then he would not waste his $$$$ or Universal's. If someone copied Perez's or your picture, on their site, and sometimes manipulated the photos, or compared them to an ill Elvis because they were not allowed to release a calendar of other photos without your permission. What would you do? 1 of these sites just kept-on griping because they could make a $ or two, and Mr. Nelson finally gave them something to cry about. All because they did not want Prince to tell them, "No. You cannot use these photos for persoanl gain". The audacity of one of these sites to attempt to smear Prince business in Vegas as some sort of personal vendetta is sickening. Nobody cries this badly unless they cannot have their way..And their way is probably not good. I've been around these sites for awhile, and there are some things that this Gossip Gangster needs to research before taking the reports of some drama queens on the 'net. | |
