That's why he sat for so long & didn't immediately join the band. The audience didn't know what all that shit was about (from what I remember). While I think it's kinda cute in general I'm not so sure the idea carries enough weight to be THE point of a music video, but the sitting down/playing it cool thing doesn't bother me when I remember the context of the event @ hand
no excuse... you can't expect folks to know what's going on...for the majority of folks the video is going to feel stilted...and even for those who know what was going on the video still feels stilted. this thing is just bad...which is sad cause he has been doing a really good job with his videos of late. its a shame. So, has anyone figured out yet, how it is that Chelsea is in the audience when she's also backstage getting ready for prom? Well, it was a live fashion show after all, which must have been a strange situation for Prince as I believe he does not always feel at ease amongst strangers. That could explain the sunglasses and the withdrawn attitude. He does look a bit shy and slightly uncomfortable on this video. I think that's what gives out that cold vibe. That plus the models' expressionless faces (with the exception of Chelsea of course, who really sparkles).
Prior to the vid, there were a just few photographs on the chelsearodgers.com website. They showed Chelsea, Shelby and another woman getting out of a car then posing in some city street. The colour theme was silver and electric blue, with a dazzling blue sky. I thought that was really vibrant and I was expecting something more along those pictures. But I guess this video is alright. Chelsea looks amazing. And I still love the song!

Video doesn't do anybody justice but Shelby(shes so good live) it was much better live at the Indigo and O2 last night main show. The twinz dance better live too than this vid. Shame not more of Prince in it. [Edited 10/28/07 15:15pm]

It was all right.
I thought he looked like the modern Willy Wonka, but that's just me. "For those who know the number and don't call...Fuck all y'all"

Prince looks fine in the video, he's a spectator at a fashion show. I'd cut out all the dancing and singing in the audience shots though. Those don't really work.

Chelsea looks amazing. And I still love the song! As far as the models expressionless faces. That works. That's what models do. Chelsea should have followed suit while on the runway...it works with the line: "kept her tears up in a bottle" and could work in the storyline, as well. If they had one. I watched it again. This time I had to laugh. How many times do the Twins walk back and forth? It's really not their fault that they're so annoying, but that back and forth thing, throws the flow or the entire thing off. That was very cool. I like the way Prince throws out the conventions of a Prince music video. I like it a lot. More soon please! Keep it fresh like this too... new moods. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I just caught it now and it was awesome! But I've always traditionally felt that the latest Prince videos would be awesome events! This is no exception. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Chelsea is a total figment of Prince's imagination.
More like, his fantasy...let's see, a supermodel who's a "21st century hippie", "talks to Jimi's ghost" (or even pretends to), and reads ALL THOSE BOOKS. It's like a personal ad. Well, he is single... [Edited 10/28/07 16:06pm]

Well, the 'jam of the week' has made 3121 interesting.
The video is good gravy. "Chelsea Rogers" song has always been kick ass and thats all that matters.

Weak song and video. Chelsea isn't pretty, or worthy of having a song about her. On the other hand, since the song and video are so bad, I'd say it's a perfect fit.

The video was kind of pointless. Maybe because it's my least favorite song on the album with the most ridiculous lyrics. Whenever he tries to merge fundamentalist religion with the control of women I get quesy. Too Taliban for me.
And when were models ever "role models"?

jdcxc said: And when were models ever "role models"? Actually, back in the day, the "Barbie doll" was used as a role model for a lot of young girls desiring to get into the modeling industry and also the desire to have a body like real-life very thin-shaped models. To young females, "Barbie" reflected the ideal of what "beauty and the shape of a woman should be like" at least that's the false image the modeling industry projected to these girls. Unfortunately, that led to many young females desiring for that "very thin" look, and that desire/pressure did lead and still leads to a high increase in anoxeria/bulemia/addiction to diet pills/other drugs to stay thin, etc., among young females and models. Young girls see those images in magazines everyday, basically telling them "this is what you should look like." Since then, they changed the look of Barb a bit, not much, but better than years ago, and there's also been some pressure for models to go from bone thin to look more "female" instead of an underdeveloped young boy's body. But the desire for that "very thin look like a model" or seeing a model as a "role model" still has an effect on many young girls/women today trying to get into the modeling industry or basically just desiring to look and be shaped like what the modeling industry says the "ideal female" should look like..but Barbie's boyfriend, the "Ken doll" pretty much kept low-keyed in all this..'cuz no one ever complained about his looks or bodyweight.. what can I say..it's still a man's world in the modeling industry which seems to dictate what the ideal female should look like...and that's just my take on it. I still love the video though and the message the song transcends. [Edited 10/28/07 18:49pm]
