Prince COPIED Michael Jackson. (Serious, disheartening thread..)

I'm going to be EXTREMELY BLUNT.

Prince copied Mr. Michael Jackson.

How you say? When? Where? I shall tell you:

Prince's Musicology, Track 2: "Illusion Coma Pimp and Circumstance"

If you listen to the ending part of the song, (I shall soon post back giving specific time frames in which the beat in question is used..) you will notice that there is quite a bit of funky little background instrumentation. Keep this sound in your memory as you listen to..

Michael Jackson's Dangerous out-take entitled "She Got It." (I downloaded it from doodoofan.com. Dumb site name, but it is A REAL outtake.) If you also listen to the ending parts of this song, you will find THE EXACT SAME BEAT being used. Yep, thats right, the same sounds are used. No questions asked...

I'm really REALLY disappointed to have discovered this. First the U2 rift-lift, and now THIS. What a sad day for the Prince camp. I may just take my leave...this is bullshit.

Good day.

Just a quick follow-up..

On Michael Jackson's "She Got It," at the playtime listing of 1:53, you can CLEARLY hear the same exact beat used throughout Prince's "Illusion, Coma, Pimp, and Circumstance" song..

Don't believe me? Listen for yourself. If you need me to send you Michael Jackson's outtake, I'll gladly do so..

That is all. For now..

Oh deary dreary me. Have we ever heard of coincidents? Or maybe he requested to sample it? Is a beat in a small part of a song that big of a deal? Especially since we dont know he stole it? puhleeze, man.

Dude... relax.

There are only so many combination of beats and notes. When you compare two prolific artists from (generally speaking) a similar genre/culture, you're bound to find some similarities somewhere along the line.

The EXACT same notes? Stop taking the purple prune juice..

This is crap. So is the U2 riff. So is the Youtube situation..

What a damn joke.

So what? Plenty of artists copy other musicians, it's part of the business. And I'm sure that Prince didn't do it intentionally.

Isn't "She Got It" an unreleased outtake? How could Prince copy something unreleased, if he hadn't heard it?

What's really sad about all this is that Prince actually disses MJ a few tracks later on "Life O' The Party." (The nose bit.)

What a LOW blow. Honestly. First copy a beat, then make fun of him.

Class act.

As for the "Plenty of artists copy other musicians" bit, that's just a real sad fact I guess... damn.

And yes, its unreleased, but lets get real.. I'm SURE Prince had access to his outtakes...

All I'm saying is that the beat is the SAME in these songs (1:53-onward) and it just seems real timbaland-ish on Prince's part.

Am I the only one here to find that Violet is doing a deliberate (and funny) piss take? hmmm

Whatever - this is a strange one! It is exactly the same, so much so as to call it a sample. Now it could be that its a generally available sample of a session musician (there are some very inventive uses of industry-wide samples and loops), but why would Prince, who seems perfectly capable of doing those licks himself, do that?

There is something odd about this though (and not just the name of the fan-site - I mean, doodoofan??!!! Somebody is taking the piss right?) and that is that when the alleged "copy of beats" (its much more than that, you can hear the bass, the guitar) the production qualilty of the sounds takes a massive leap forward (as though recorded more recently than 1991)! Its also not quite the right key, compared with the rest of the tune (which, actually is pretty boring right up to this bit - it barely alters its groove and moreover sounds like Jacko doing a bad Prince impersenation) - the fact that its not quite the right key adds a discordant flavour that, whilst sitting at odds with the banality of the rest of the track, does finally give something of interest to the listener. And the beat changes too - there is more to it. Like another beat overlaid. I'd have to hear it through a hi-fi (just listened on laptop speakers at the mo), but to my ears it just sounds like ICPC has been overlayed on top of this old MJ track eek

So - strange, don'tcha think? I mean, we either have Prince directly sampling off MJ (though, this seems unlikely - there is only about 30-seconds of these sounds, whereas there is much more on Prince's ICPC. Are we supposed to believe that Prince lifted this 30-second snippet and then managed to directly replicate the sounds on real instruments and synths and jammed the rest anyway? That would be insane! As is this conundrum confused

Did they both sample the same source with Jacko only using 30seconds of a much longer sample and Prince using a bigger chunk?! Again, I don't think so!

Or (and this is how it sounds like to me - someone is having a laugh, performing a hoax even, and has spliced Prince's ICPC in to this song...for nothing more than amusement, I guess?

How do you figure Prince saying that he's never had his nose done is taking a slap at Michael? Alot of people are saying Prince had a nose job done maybe he is defending himself!

Prince is wearing one of MJ's tuxedo shirts from "Off The Wall" on the "Controversy" CD.

"Life Of The Party" was the title of a song on the "Dancing Machine" CD.

Prince went after MJ's sloppy seconds dating that "The Way You Make Me Feel" lady and recording with Sheryl Crow.

MJ uh, married Elvis' daughter. Prince dated Marvin's daughter.

In the latest MJ bio it quotes MJ as calling Prince a "copycat".

But MJ ended up with a Prince-ish complexion and a Luxsexy/Graffiti wig so it all balances out.

Prince a copycat? If that were the case, the careers would have followed an identical path. IF anything, musically Superfly Sister sounds like Erotic City (with a faster tempo).

Prince borrowed more from Sly/Hendrix in regards to fashion and musically, went all over the map. If he is a copycat, he has had a damn good career and if MJ ALLEGEDLY said what he said, then dude is reallly out of touch with reality.

Ultimately, they both owe everything to

Thanks for actually responding with something tangible.

Yes, I did overplay a lot of this.. razz

But still, this is WEIRD. You can just imagine how shocked I was when my one of my friends, a hardcore-MJ fan named Camille, ironically enough, let me listen to to this track. Definitely a big "wtf" moment.

Actually, as interesting as that may be, my example involves the EXACT same notes and beats being played. Right down to the exact same timing as well..

Either its a fake or Prince copied. And in either case, how STRANGE is this?
