in the 80's I think jesse could rip a little more flovorful than prince....his licks were more fluid than prince's in my opinion..and his lead tone was better IMO..now..? only god knows.

I think it'd be hard to measure and judge. They have two different styles. Taste is in the mouth of the beholder. Much respect to both of them for taking off in different directions.

It would be difficult to assertain who would be the better performer. First of all you might have to get a ticket in England to see Prince perform live on Tour, and then you would have to travel to Jesse's momma's house in Rock Island, illinois to see him perform live in her basement. I'm sorry but Jesse is MIA and nobody has seen him since the mid 80's. Somebody please but Jesse on a milk carton! lol

Both are monsters on that instrument. I would not, however, count Jesse out. His "Bare my Naked Soul" showed layers upon layers of guitar mastery. I've yet to hear Prince put out a comparable album.

People forget that Prince did all the guitar work on ALL his albums as well as The Time's, so it wasn't Jesse. Jesse can play a mean guitar but Prince would get him at any stage of his career.

Well the first part of your statement is inaccurate in respect to the Time albums. Jesse's playing is clearly heard on Ice Cream Castles album and to a much greater degree on Pandemonium. Hmmm..so..what tracks did Prince play on those 2 albums? ...Right... The rest of the statement is highly debateable. It's not like this topic hasn't already been addressed in similar threads. Why dredge it up again for upteenth time?

Until Ice Cream Castle, The Time(in the studio) consisted of Prince playing everything and singing backup) and Morris Day(Alex O'Neal to a lesser extent) on lead. Jesse played with a superb sounding guitar tone but his solo's lacked substance. He could play guitar, that is without question, but better than Prince.....wake the fuck up mang.

Exactly what I meant, the early Time albums as Prince was to busy on Purple Rain to completely do Ice Cream Castles. Don't get me wrong, Jesse can jam but I think Prince would shread him a new A$$ anytime. Prince to a lesser degree wanted all his proteges to shine so he never really tried to out play Dez or Jesse because he knew he already could. The only person in his camp that struggled early on was Wendy. She's better now but in the Revolution days she was awful. That why he brought in Miko who in his own right can tear shit up on the axe too. Prince never really had bad guitarist in his camp except Wendy. Jesse, Dez are the great rockers, Miko and Levi are the smooth funksters and the white guy in Sheila E. band(can't think of his name now) was pretty good too and Mike Scott is also funky

Again...who you think is better is a matter of opinion & personal taste. If your trying to represent your opinion as fact, then it's debatable. I'm not in the business of arguing opinions. You like who you like. This topic has been done to death. I was hoping to find some enlightened post. Unfotunately the usual group of greasy mouth fambots continue to leave post that don't offer any objectivity what so ever. (Prince is a god! "Nuff Said!") rolleyes

Prince is great no doubt. Maybe even a genius within his own microcosm. LOL! However, some of you need to collectively wean yourselves off his joint. Seriously. It's damn near impossible to have any sort of intelligent conversation with anyone riding his jock so hard.

Here's a tip: Pretend your not a fan for a moment then re-read some of your postings....perhaps for once you'd see how ridiculous some these statements are.

Later...

Prince would win anything against Jesse except guitar playing. Jesse was and is still a beast on the instrument. I'm just wanting you is my all-time favourite song the rhythm and the solo is unbelievable.
Jesse scared the shit outta of our man.

i understand your point georgeguitar but the symbolism of having an all black rock unit is just as important as when he had a multiculteral band in the 80's. black kids and white kids can learn from this band and prince is big enough to be given a platform to speak on culteral stereotypes and the importance of real music being lost in black communities.

To a lesser extent, Alexander O'Neal? Uh, Alex NEVER sung lead with The Time. The only cut Jesse played on with The Time is Jungle Love. That's P on My Drawers.
