I love P's axe..he just has a knack for choosing interesting chords and unexpected notes..but JJ's " I'm Just Wanting You"...and the double guitar effect...the org just gotta give props to that...

But the melody sounds exactly like Prince. What's with the copycating? The guitar chords in the song were similar to the Prince sound as well. The hair on the album cover even the blue suit was very Prince like. How can one try compare Jesse to Prince or state he was even better than Prince as a guitar player when all he did was copy Prince's style?

That's like Charlie Chaplin entering his own look alike contest and losing.

How do you know it aint Prince who sounds like Jesse in tha first place?..hmmmmm...??? Maybe blackguitarist can give us some insight?....

hmm Why do they say it's Jesse when it's Prince?

Shhhh....that's really what I was trying to ask.

dseann, I'm going with what Morris told me. He has NO reason to say it's Prince when it was really Jesse. Just because Morris mentioned Jesse by name in the song doesn't mean that Jesse played the part. This isn't the first time that has happened on a Time song. P played bass on "The Walk" but what does Morris say? "Go on and walk, Terry.". Refering to it's Terry playing the bassline when it was Prince all along. Jesse and Terry played guitar and bass while they were on stage, live. The studio, was always another story. Especially dealing with The Time. If P wasn't playing all of the instruments, then it was one of his own band members. Like Dez, Fink and Lisa playing something. Dez is even singing on background vocals on 777-9311, and Wild and Loose.

Another good example. Not only did 98% of the time, (no pun intended) did P play everything on The Time albums, take one of the best cuts P has ever released, "International Lover". By far, one of his best sung ballads, that song was originally recorded for The Time's second album. P recorded the music and was going to keep his backing vocals on there, with of course Morris singing lead. But after P heard The Time rehearsing it live, it sounded so good that P changed his mind and took it back. So he gave them the much weaker "G.'s's Get Lonely Too" instead.

I wasn't doubting the fact that Prince played guitar, I just didn't know he still played on "Ice Cream Castle". I just wanted to know why Morris would call Jesse's name. Thanks for the answer.

Wasn't Prince making albums and sounding like Prince before Jesse auditioned for the Time? It would be hard for him to sound like Jesse before ever hearing him wouldn't you think?

Well,... I've mentioned this on here before. Jesse did have some influence on P. Not as a guitarist perse' but image wise, definately. Just like Dez influenced what we saw Prince do. Dez and Jesse both, when first joining Prince, ALREADY had their sense of style down pat. They were already fully formed. They already had their guitar styles down and their visual style down when they first came to Prince. That really wasn't the case with P. When Dez joined, although obviously P already knew how to smoke on guitar, I don't think he was as sure or as confident on how much he should showcase his rock guitar in his material or stageshow. Seeing how Dez already was, it made P more comfortable in doing that. In Jesse's case, Jesse also brought a lot of style to P's camp. Jesse already had his color, which was pink. When he joined P, all of Jesse's speaker cabinets were covered in pink shag. Jesse, like Dez, were short in height. Neither of them were that much taller than Prince. So they were already wearing the boots. Jesse was already wearing the hairstyle that P himself would go on to incorporate during the 1999 period. P's hairstyle wasn't like that when Jesse first joined. He was on the Dirty Mind look. He added the the curl to the side AFTER Jesse was already sporting the long curl. Morris said even P's stage demeanour changed after Jesse joined. P became more "cool" while he played guitar like Jesse was. Morris said that P watched Jesse more than anyone during the Time shows and rehearsals.

It would be difficult to assertain who would be the better performer. First of all you might have to get a ticket in England to see Prince perform live on Tour, and then you would have to travel to Jesse's momma's house in Rock Island, illinois to see him perform live in her basement. I'm sorry but Jesse is MIA and nobody has seen him since the mid 80's. Somebody please but Jesse on a milk carton! lol
