Just because princes later work pales in comparison to his earlier stuff does not mean that somebody else has left off from the level at which he fell off (if that makes sense confused ). Prince's 80's body of work is comparable to the beatles or james brown. When whats her face produces a body of work that influential and ground breaking get back to me! lol

Meshell is strong, she's DAMN good and deserves the respect she gets, but as I see it, she's a little too " different " to go mainstream again. If it's not her politics or her looks, it's the way she floats her boat - which I don't have any problem with - , her style doesn't play well in Peoria.

Prince Sues Owner of Me'Shell Ndegeocello Website Over Prince Bootlegs

Prince's production company, Paisley Park Enterprises, is suing Matthew Lankford, the operator of the website FreeMyHeart.com claiming that the site allegedly offered pirated recordings of Prince’s live performances from his "Xenophobia" concert tour. The website is actually a Me’Shell Ndegeocello tribute site however the lawsuit claims that the site allowed users to download Prince songs that included "specific information describing which day the unauthorized recording of the 'Xenophobia' concert took place."

Lankford offered a statement denying the violation of copyright law saying, "What he's claiming is that I put up files on my web site. What happened is I put up links to other Web sites that had files on them” Lankford went on to say "One of my favorite artists is coming after me for promoting him on my web site… For him to seek $150,000 per song to try to ruin me for doing nothing more than promoting him is ... overdoing it."

Any references to Prince and his music have been removed from the site and Lankford has said that there will never be another Prince reference on the site ever again.

Prince plans to release a three-CD box set from his recent U.S. tour. He has yet to release anything from the "Xenophobia" sessions.

I love MeShell and I have seen two of her brilliant concerts...but she is not in the same league as P. Her songwriting has gotten lost over the last 5 years ("cookie"-overrated, the dub album-one note, the fusion album-scattered) and I am praying for a return to her personal and awesome second and third albums (where Wendy M guested). She would admit to P's singular genius.

Plus why compare the two - just hope they collaborate again (Emancipation).

I was a big fan of that 2nd album...I went to her show here at the Phoenix in Toronto. She was great live. I think I wanted her to be great and although it was exciting to see a lady leading a band etc...to compare her to P is a joke. I'm starting to believe this site a haven for those far less sophisticated than I in terms of musicolgy:)

What Prince can say that no one (Maxwell, D'Angelo, Justin, Timbaland, Tony Rich, TTD, MeShell etc) else can, is that all of these great artists spent hundreds of hours listening to Prince's music. Even with that kind of schooling...give me one song by any of these artists (maybe not TTD) that rivals 'little red corvette' in terms of fusing styles, or 'starfish and coffee ' or the whole damnh Parade album(in terms of imagnination) ...and let's not even get into everything else he can do that they CAN AND WILL NOT!

In terms of songwriting -----> MeShell

In terms of complexity -----> MeShell

In terms of integrity -----> MeShell

In terms of mainstream-success-----> Prince

In terms of superstardom -----> Prince (in these times no superstars will stand up anymore like they did in the 80's like MJ, Madonna or Prince, it's a whole different ballgame now)

Right now, MeShell's music is far more exciting than anything I've heard from the music Prince has released in the last 10 years.....

You're kidding right? I love MeShell but musically more complex she is not. Prince is a brilliant songwriter in ways that MeShell hasn't even come close to realizing. She would admit this. Check out her devotions to P on YouTube. Wendy sounds good on her albums though.

Integrity. Prince was breaking sexual and gender boundaries during the Reagan years while MeShell was figuring out how to get a record deal with Madonna. And how much integrity is involved in using gender neutral pronouns and hetereo love songs on the her first album.

Mainstream success. Prince is a true revolutionary and independent artist in many ways. He spent years touring and developing his cult base before any "superstar mainstream" success.

And didn't they record "Emale" together in NYC?
