Prince snubbed (No Oscar nomination)

http://www.imdb.com/featu...007/oscars

Thankfully he didn't get a nomination for that song. The only thing worse than the song would've been a live performance of it.

Dreamgirls has eight nominations and Babel has seven nominations to lead all movies at the Academy Awards this year.

The Oscars are the only Award Show to air Live on BOTH coasts so only overseas fans would be spoiled.

Achievement in music written for motion pictures (Original song)
“I Need to Wake Up” from “An Inconvenient Truth”
(Paramount Classics and Participant Productions)
Music and Lyric by Melissa Etheridge

“Listen” from “Dreamgirls”
(DreamWorks and Paramount)
Music by Henry Krieger and Scott Cutler
Lyric by Anne Preven

“Love You I Do” from “Dreamgirls”
(DreamWorks and Paramount)
Music by Henry Krieger
Lyric by Siedah Garrett

“Our Town” from “Cars”
(Buena Vista)
Music and Lyric by Randy Newman

“Patience” from “Dreamgirls”
(DreamWorks and Paramount)
Music by Henry Krieger
Lyric by Willie Reale

Remember when Siedah Garrett was doing all those songs with Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson. She even dueted with MJ on I Just Can't Stop Loving You and I think she co-wrote Man in the Mirror, I know she sang on it. I'm glad to see she's still doing her thing.

I don't particularly like the song... and it doesn't really feature in the body of the movie which I think songs should to be eligible... but I did think it would get a nomination at the very least. It's pretty ridiculous that the song which WON the Globes isn't even nominated at the Oscars.

not really. the globes got a history of that...i laugh when folks give the globes more credibility then they should...like using madonna's globe when for Evita as proof she is a talented actress...

the globes are a joke. you got like fifty "foreign press" choosing the winners and nominees. hence off the wall shit happening...the only reason why its such a big deal is because the awards serve alcohol during the ceremony and stars would have so much fun they would go year after year...then crazy stuff started happening during the show (cause everyone was drunk) and so the show went from tbs to nbc and they are now a hit.

i miss when awards were acknowledged for the joke they really were...

(as I pointed out on the GD thread & at HQ)...Marilyn Monroe won a Golden Globe & was nominated for several but was never nominated for an Oscar. shrug

I am a bit surprised, although I don't think Song of the Heart is Oscar worthy. Is it because "the Academy" was worried he'd win simply because he's Prince, or does this indicate that all the Hollywood schmoozing didn't really pay off, or am I reading entirely too much into the whole thing? Probably the latter. lol On the bright side, at least now I don't have to sit through 3+ hours of that drivel to catch a glimpse of Prince.
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

i believe the song nominees are decided on by a committee and not by the members at large...and they take into consideration the use of the song...i really think only having the song played during the credits hurt its chances for a nomination...especially when the Truth song and Dreamgirls songs are used throughout (and especially especially during a year that a musical it out...reminding everyone that the nomination is "best use of a song" in a film...not "best song".)

I actually expected to hear the song played "during" the movie and was shocked when it was played only when the credits rolled up, but I do like the song.

I was so sure it would get nominated, especially since the Golden Globes. Oh well, the song wasn't THAT great and awards aren't everything. He's got plenty of them. smile

It doesn't surprise me that Prince wasn't nominated considering the song's placement in the context of the movie. It disappointments me as far as a performance opportunity, but it's not surprising.

What shocks me is the Dream Girls wasn't nominated for Best Picture.

Now that's shocking and disappointing. sad

That's because they already gave Prince his oscar. Honestly this woould be an easy win for him if he were nominated. One he's Prince, two he's back in the public eye, three he's a mature artist now and lastly it's a great song made for children. How could it not win?

yeah, i think the main reason prince won the globe was because the hollywood foreign press members wanted an invite to prince's after-party.

mad

Are any of the other songs written, all instruments performed and sang by the nominee?!?!

And as for your negative comments on it, it's a GREAT song for the movie and for kids! Wish I wouldn't have read your post first, now it's got me all stabby and that's not a good way to start the day. stab

I can't believe DG gets so many nominations. Beyonce's been such a beyotch about Jennifer Hudson, I hope she doesn't win shit. Especially after the stupid crap her dad said after the GGs.

One saving grace, I just read that DG didn't get a nom for Best Picture! woot!
