Thankfully he didn't get a nomination for that song. The only thing worse than the song would've been a live performance of it.

mad

Are any of the other songs written, all instruments performed and sang by the nominee?!?! Grrr.

And as for your negative comments on it, it's a GREAT song for the movie and for kids! brick

Song of the Heart is definitely a great song for kids, I bought the soundtrack cd and a child relative of mine loves "Song of the Heart.

Yes and if you listen to it more than once and pay attention to some of the details, you'll realize it's better than what you might think the first go-around. (collective 'you', not 'you' you) wink

Oh well, No biggie. I'm actually surprised he was nominated for and won the the Golden Globe.
I would hardly call this a snub. It's not like this song was a favorite going into the Oscar's.
And, on the plus side: As much as I love Prince and pretty much everything he does, this song wasn't a favorite of mine. The song went great with the video, but as a stand alone song, it was only ok. If he HAD gotten an Oscar nom, he might of featured it in his Superbowl performance.
Now he can concentrate on his tribute to James Brown and the two history making coaches: "Say it loud. I'm Black and I'm Proud" lol

“Love You I Do” from “Dreamgirls”
(DreamWorks and Paramount)
Music by Henry Krieger
Lyric by Siedah Garrett

Remember when Siedah Garrett was doing all those songs with Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson. She even dueted with MJ on I Just Can't Stop Loving You and I think she co-wrote Man in the Mirror, I know she sang on it. I'm glad to see she's still doing her thing.

That is actually my favorite song on the soundtrack... I bought it, and I play that track all the time. wink
I think it's positive, upbeat and her voice is so strong! music

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

Dreamgirls is way overrated. The Prince song is lame, but there is no way Dreamgirls should have 3 nominations for best song. Velvet Jones Murphy is a funny stand-up comedian, but his nomination is pretty ridiculous. It's the Robin Williams syndrome. Anytime a comedy guy does a movie where he's not in a fat suit and a dress, they give them an Oscar. Except when they actually deserve it, like Jim Carrey in Man On The Moon and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.

Hmmmm, or maybee its when a black comedian. Jim Carrey is not a better actor than Eddie. Eddie should win because he was great in dreamgirls. He hasnt done stand up in 20 years stop hating.

Is this really news? It's more of Non-News IMO.

And did anyone actually think Song of the Heart deserve any award? He practically wrote it in his sleep. It's not that good of a song and reminds me of an Emancipation throwaway. I know we all think Prince deserves a medal for simply living, but come on..SOTH doesn't deserve to be nominated.

I don't particularly like the song... and it doesn't really feature in the body of the movie which I think songs should to be eligible... but I did think it would get a nomination at the very least. It's pretty ridiculous that the song which WON the Globes isn't even nominated at the Oscars.

not really. the globes got a history of that...i laugh when folks give the globes more credibility then they should...like using madonna's globe when for Evita as proof she is a talented actress...

the globes are a joke. you got like fifty "foreign press" choosing the winners and nominees. hence off the wall shit happening...the only reason why its such a big deal is because the awards serve alcohol during the ceremony and stars would have so much fun they would go year after year...then crazy stuff started happening during the show (cause everyone was drunk) and so the show went from tbs to nbc and they are now a hit.

i miss when awards were acknowledged for the joke they really were...

The GG used to have integrity. It is only recently that they have pandered in the same way the Oscars have.

Madonna's GG isn't proof that she is a good actress. It's proof she did a great job in that movie, which she did.

Personally I really love 'I Need To Wake Up' by Melissa Etheridge...I hope she performs it on the awards show. It's from Al Gore's doc 'Inconvienient Truth'...it's pretty much along the lines of a typical M.E. song but the lyrics are great! And I loves my Missy Etheridge!

Guess I'll post this on this thread cuz it's remotely related to the Oscars:

http://www.people.com/peo...22,00.html

On Brad Pitt's road to Hollywood, it helped to have strippers in the passenger seat.

Talking about one of his first jobs at Newsweek's annual Oscar roundtable Saturday in Hollywood, Pitt said, "My job was to drive them to bachelor parties and things. I'd pick them up, and at the gig I'd collect the money, play the bad Prince tapes and catch the girls' clothes. It was not a wholesome atmosphere, and it got very depressing."

Situations like these can be a little amusing. It brings out all the fans who cry out, "The Oscars don't matter! Prince is soo above them!" when they'd be the first ones praising Prince's genius and celebrating if he'd gotten nominated.

WORD. i am actually glad that he didn't get nominated. he didn't deserve it. the song is mediocre at best. i am still surprised he won a golden globe. that's cool-- but that song is in no way oscar nomination-worthy and apparently the academy agrees.

i co-sign. eddie was great in DG and deserved both the golden globe as well as this oscar nomination. perhaps this will be the catalyst for mr. murphy to do higher quality work (ala, bill murray after his oscar nomination). i hope he ditches the fat suit and heads for higher ground!
